ZFS works in waves
A little back story: I have a Norco DS-1220, a 12 bay SATA box, it is
connected to eSATA (SiI3124) via PCI-X two drives are straight
connections, then the other two ports go to 5x multipliers within the
box. My needs/hopes for this was using 12 500GB drives and ZFS make a
very large & simple data dump spot on my network for other servers to
rsync to daily & use zfs snapshots for

External SATA enclosures: SiI3124 and CentOS 5?
Tired of "little problems" trying to keep 7 drives working in an old desktop
computer, I'm considering an external SATA drive enclosure with a controller
card based on the Sil3124.

I'm a bit concerned about long-term support, namely that the company's driver
page only lists drivers through RedHat 4.

Norco''s new storage appliance
Hey all,
Has anyone else noticed Norco''s recently-announced DS-520 and thought
ZFS-ish thoughts? It''s a five-SATA, Celeron-based desktop NAS that ships
without an OS.

Thanks.

sending fax with chan-capi
Hi!
Has someone ever used the sendfax option of new chan-capi to send fax? I
need some help regarding the sff format:
How can I generate sff format? I found sfftobmp, not nothing the other
way round.
Is there a nice way to get the sff out of an Windows application (like
virtual printers for hylafax) or at least some scripts which produce the
sff and the asterisk call file out of an pdf?

[RFC] net/sched/em_canid: Ematch rule to match CAN frames according to their CAN IDs
em_canid is an ematch capable of classifying CAN frames according to
their CAN IDs.
This RFC/Patch contains a reworked classifier initially posted in
http://www.spinics.net/lists/netdev/msg200114.html
The functionality is the same however there is almost 50% reduction
in the source code length.
There is a slight difference between this ematch and other available
ematches. Other ematches

Any experience with eSATA and port multiplier...?
Hey,
just bought an eSATA/USB dual drive docking station and my CentOS 5 can only see one drive at a time...
Any one knows if there are specific parameters to set somewhere?
Or do I need a more recent kernel (like upgrading to CentOS 6?)
The docking is a Sharkoon Quickport Duo v2 + 2 drives + 1 eSATA cable...

CentOS 6 SFF motherboard or complete system
I am trying to assemble or purchase a set of CentOS 6 compatible SFF workstations, and am finding it incredibly frustrating to do so. hardware.redhat.com is so slow as to be useless and provides almost no information about each of the 1,300 or so products listed in their database; clicking through them one at a time is incredibly frustrating (and about half of them are discontinued or out of stock

4 monitors with one graphics card and standard driver
I've just test an ATI FirePro 2460 graphics card on CentOS 6.4. It
connects 4 monitors.
It worked with the standard radeon driver. I was able to arrange the
monitors into my
preferred configuration (as a square array, 1 upper left, 2 lower left, 3
lower right, 4
upper right) simply by clicking System -> Preferences -> Display, and then
moving the
four monitor images. This creates the

1 model out of a dozen hangs at "loading boot sector... booting..."
Hello,
I am new to this list. We are trying to move away from our WDS server with PXElinux mods and are testing using iPXE on a linux box only. We mainly use HP but also have Dells, Panasonic, and Lenovo. On almost a dozen models tested now, everything works great. These were mostly laptops but a Dell Optiplex 360 and 380 booted fine. So far we have just had a problem with the HP 6005 Pro SFF

Best practices?
Suppose I start building nodes with (say) 24 drives each in them.
Would the standard/recommended approach be to make each drive its own
filesystem, and export 24 separate bricks, server1:/data1 ..
server1:/data24 ? Making a distributed replicated volume between this and
another server would then have to list all 48 drives individually.
At the other extreme, I could put all 24 drives into some

External SATA drive enclosures + ZFS?
Hi all,
Space is starting to get a bit tight here, so I''m looking at adding
a couple of TB to my home server. I''m considering external USB or
FireWire attached drive enclosures. Cost is a real issue, but I also
want the data to be managed by ZFS--so enclosures without a JBOD option
have been disgarded (i.e., I don''t want to use any internal HW RAID
controllers).

PXELinux v 2.00
Hi Peter,
we are looking at PXELinux to use it for reinstalling PC's.
PXELinux works fine, is such way that the option "LOCALBOOT"
behaves as expected in version 1.76.
v2.00 the "LOCALBOOT 0" doesn't work on some hardware
(systems like Compaq EVO, Compaq EN SFF, in other words,
systems that have the Intel chip on the system board).

CentOS 5.6 x64 installs successfully on HP 6200pro SFF box with

If it had two (or more) network ports, I'd be all over it. A single

Has anyone on the list used one of these w/Linux? We currently use

7-disk raidz achieves 430 MB/s reads and 220 MB/s writes on a $1320 box
I figured the following ZFS ''success story'' may interest some readers here.
I was interested to see how much sequential read/write performance it would be
possible to obtain from ZFS running on commodity hardware with modern features
such as PCI-E busses, SATA disks, well-designed SATA controllers (AHCI,
SiI3132/SiI3124). So I made this experiment of building a fileserver by

ISDN (point to point) questions
Hello;
we are looking to replace our current PBX with a *-box; it is
connected to ONE ppp isdn connection that is terminated by the NC. We
got on this box 4 msn's configured.
currently we are working with pstn fxo's behind the PBX; it works but
we can't use the CSID information behind it. We want to migrate and
keep the MSN's to decide routing in combination with the CID.
