cron environement settings
It seems to me that when you setup an environement for a cron it just recreate the crontab at each run even if the cron has not changed. Seems it does not recognize actual environement settings. I put 2 environement and i got: info: Writing cron tab for aqadmin /linux/cron=puppetdcron/environment: environment changed '''' to

Debian and Ubuntu packages of 1.0.17
I uploaded packages of 1.0.17 to Debian unstable more than a month ago, and also updated the xapian-backports PPA on launchpad: https://launchpad.net/~xapian-backports/+archive/ppa But more recently and more notably, I've now uploaded backported packages for Debian 5.0 (the current stable release, codename lenny) and Debian 4.0 (the "oldstable" release, codename etch) to

have to restart shorewall after a dynamic IP change
Hi, I''ve to restart shorewall when my dynamic IP was changed from my ISP. Of course i can with a shell script do it automatically, but the question is still there.. why ? mess-mate -- "I understand this is your first dead client," Sabian was saying. The absurdity of the statement made me want to laugh but they don''t call me Deadpan

Managing packages which require a reboot
Hi, I''m working on a method to manage packages which require a reboot after being installed. I''m curious how other people are handling this problem. Consider the resource: pkg_deploy { "MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.9Intel.dmg": alias => macosx1049 } I''d like to only install the package under if the following conditions are met: - No user is logged into the

Bug in formals<-
I think this is new since a previous version of R: > h <- function(x, trantab) trantab[x] > w <- 6:4 > names(w) <- c('cat','dog','giraffe') > w cat dog giraffe 6 5 4 > > formals(h) <- list(x=numeric(0), trantab=w) > h function (x = numeric(0), trantab = c(6, 5, 4)) trantab[x] You can see that the names

Fast searching from android device with Dovecot/Maildir
Hello, I am using dovecot as an imap server, mail is stored in mail directories. Configuration is below. One mail directory has about 14 Gb of mail in the inbox and .Sent directories. Searching from an Android phone with gmail is slow or doesn't work (it times out). Is there a configuration for Dovecot that can improve this? A better e-mail client for Android? Thanks, John root at

asrock 775 dual-vsta mb and linux with sata raid
Hello, I have the subject mentioned mb and I am trying to install centos 4.4 with sata raid enabled, but linux is not seeing the drives? I tried to load via sata raid driver, no luck there. I guess I could try legacy mode in the bios, but I was hoping there is another way around to load linux with the raid? Thanks....

virNodeInfo returns MBytes instead of bytes
Hi, http://www.libvirt.org/html/libvirt-libvirt.html#virNodeInfo says that memory size is in kilobytes, however when I use this call I get an answer in Megabytes, see below. The hypervisor has 16 GB of RAM. $ python Python 2.6.6 (r266:84292, Jul 10 2013, 22:48:45) [GCC 4.4.7 20120313 (Red Hat 4.4.7-3)] on linux2 Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or

Collecting system stats
Hi, I am trying to create a report across all my KVM hypervisors using libvirt API and I need some assistance in figuring out the right API calls. My report will contain the total available memory, CPU, disk across all hypervisors, versus the amount used by the virtual machines. This report will help figure out if we are running low on hypervisor disk, CPU or memory and if we need to add more. I

filtering "tags" via checkboxes - HABTM
First post/newbie post... bear with me. What I''m trying to achive (music site): A system containing tracks and moods with a HABTM relationship. I''ve got all that set up and functioning in the admin environment - i.e. admins can apply a variety of moods to a particular track via a series of checkboxes. Join table works just fine. I''m currently stuck on allowing

Banging my head on wall (hosts)
Ok, so I figured I''d move this here since IRC isn''t the place for it. Ok, so I have my 40ish servers. Of those, 36 or so of them have hosts entries that need to look like this: 127.0.0.1 localhost 172.x.x.x dbprod1.xxx.com dbprod1 172.x.x.x mgmt01.xxx.com mgmt01 puppet certmaster 172.x.x.x mybox.xxx.com mybox Where mybox is the name of the box. The others have a few

Slightly OT: which hardware for CentOS file server (Samba, 2 To storage, 50 users)?
Hi, The language lab from the local university has contacted me. They'd like to have a low-cost file server for storing all their language video files. They have a mix of Windows, Mac OS X and even Linux clients, roughly 50 machines. The files are quite big, and they calculated a total amount of 2 To of storage. I'm not very proficient with hardware, meaning either I'm dealing

virt-manager
so... I've been tinkering with KVM again. my desktop is windows, the linux server is remote, so I have a ssh X tunnel running, and XMing running locally, and launch virt-manager. opens fine, shows the VM I created some time ago. I select that VM (which is running centos 6), and 'open', a window opens for a few seconds, then blam, virt-manager exits before I can click on

OGG lossless?
Hello, I noticed that kbps jumps quite high in -q 10 mode and is nearing lossless compressors. Would it be a difficult task to make OGG a lossless compressor at -q 10? I don't know much about lossy/lossless compression internal logic, so excuse me if my question is out of place. But this would be a really nice feature that would make OGG an "all in one" tool. Cheers, Bostjan

NT MD4 password encryption question
Are there multiple ways that Windows clients encrypt passwords? I'm seeing different behavior between two clients. On one, I can access a Samba share just fine. On the other, using the same username and password to access the same share, I get "incorrect password." Looking for the difference in Samba debug traces, I find it comes down to this: smb_password_ok: Checking SMB

Controlling Cisco 7960 Ringtone from Asterisk
I'm trying to change the ring tone on my 7960 from the dialplan. I've tried the example on the wiki but it doesn't seem to work. Something like: exten => 3010,1,SetVar(ALERT_INFO=<Bellcore-dr1>) ; selects Ringer exten => 3010,2,Dial(SIP/3010,15) I'm not sure what the Bellcore-dr1 ringer is supposed to be. I've tried replacing ALERT_INFO with another ring tone

Some question about megatec vs. powercom
Hi folks! We have a Powercom Vanguard 6000 running here. It seems to be supported by the megatec driver within nut. So I get everything out of it exept the battery status. When I run Nut, it says: Megatec protocol UPS detected [UPS Model 6K Ver Y1.3]. This UPS has an unsupported combination of battery voltage/number of batteries. The "battery.charge" value will be bogus. So I would
