Help to conduct a random factor analysis with binomial response
Dear users of the R mailing list, I am a ph.d. student in biology working on red deer in Norway, who would like to conduct an analysis with random factor where the response is binomially distributed. This cannot be conducted in S-plus, and I was told by others that it may be possible in R. However, I soon got into trouble which I hope you can help me to solve. My model is on this form:

nesting in CoxPH with survival package
Hello all, I am trying to understand how to specify nested factors when using coxph(), and if it is appropriate to nest these factors in my situation. In the simplest form, I am testing two different temperatures, with each temperature being performed twice in different experimental periods (e.g. Temp5 performed in Period A and C, Temp4 performed in Period B and D) I am trying to see if survival

CentOS 5.5 hangs on Acer Veriton X498G
I have installed CentOS 5.5 (2.6.18-194.17.1.el5PAE) on a number of Acer Veriton X498G desktop computers. They seem to randomly hang when nobody is logged in at the console, i.e. I notice a hanged computer but have not heard complaints about computers hanging while a user was at the keyboard. The symptoms are: Blank screen. Power LED on. Network LED blinking. No response to keyboard or

CentOS7/Mate Qt bugs/features?
We have recently migrated from CentOS6/Gnome to CentOS7/Mate - and have noticed 'glitches' with some Qt applications that appears to be linked to the 'org.mate.Marco.general' 'compositing-manager' setting - and wondered how we 'fix' the issue ... Below is a PyQT4 python script that shows the issues: 1. With 'compositing-manager' set to 'true' (I

Writing a breakable loop? If it gets a match it should stop.
I''m trying to write a function that will accept a rails URL, and see if it matches one of my Rights. Rights are just controller URLs, so I can manage access at the controller level (don''t need action level). What I''m trying to do is take the url passed, and see if its access controlled. If it is, the method should stop and return true, if not it will return false. This

tcltk resizing when using tkgrid for layout
I've been able to figure out on my own how to do what I need in the largely undocumented tcltk package, but I've finally hit a wall. I can't even think of any sufficiently specific search terms to use for this. I'm trying to make the widgets in my tk window resize when the window is resized by clicking and dragging on its corners or edges. Instead they stay exactly where they

MWI on Cisco 7905
Hi, I'm using a Cisco 7905 (with SIP image CP7905010300SIP050414A) on Asterisk 1.07. Whenever the user gets voicemail, the MWI goes on, and when the user listens to the voicemail, the MWI goes off. However, the phone is configured (as in the default config by Cisco) to re-read its configuration from tftp every hour. This 'warm reboot' also turns off the MWI, and it won't

Incorrect shell quotation in scp
Hi, as the current debian maintainer of the openssh package is a bit busy, I'm helping him with fixing a part of the bugs in openssh that debian users found will forward some of the reports to you. This is the first one and a fix or a comment why this should not be fixed would be appropriated. Thanks Space in filename is not correctly passed by scp to other invoked programs:

Reset events after ajax update
Avoiding real work I decided to try and clean up my html and remove my inline onclick handlers for Ajax.Updater calls. Here''s the inline method I''ve been using: http://hank.org/demos/ajax-inline.html Now, here''s using <script> sections to apply the behavior. http://hank.org/demos/ajax.html (firefox only) Since the links (tabs) are inside the

[PATCH 0/9] tools: remove or disable old/useless/unused/unmainted stuff
depends on "autoconf: regenerate configure scripts with 4.4 version" This series removes some of the really old deadwood from the tools build and makes some other things which are on their way out configurable at build time with a default depending on how far down the slope I judge them to be. * nuke in tree copy of libaio * nuke obsolete tools: xsview, miniterm, lomount & sv *

100% CPU
I''m running Mephisto on two mongrels behind Apache 2.2. I''m getting HUGE spikes to 100% of CPU on uncached (not served by Apache) requests. These requests also take an exorbitant amount of time, ~20 seconds when my production.log reports the database responding in > .2 seconds and the render time is > .002 seconds. I have no idea where to start with debugging this. I have
