Getting a list of managed machines on the puppetmaster.
Is there an easy way to list which puppet daemons a puppetmaster controls?
... and from that, is there a way of getting the puppetmaster to store a
copy of their compiled configuration somewhere?
Thanks,

mysql and/or db access from within puppet recipes?
Maybe this has already been stated or is a feature request or I could be out of my mind.
Is there anyway to access a remote mysql database from within let''s say...a puppet function?

Designing a Pilot Puppet Infrastructure - Have Questions.
Hi all,
I''ve been following the puppet project for a while now and I think it''s starting to become mature enough to be used in a pilot project at my corp.
I have a few questions:
1. What is the current largest known number of Puppet managed hosts?
2. What are the average network demands on a single puppet master?
3. Has Oracle ever been managed by Puppet?
3a. Has Oracle ever

41 server under puppet today
Hello there.
Just to let you know i have just put in production mode puppet on 41
freeBSD 4.7 virtual servers (yes not real servers but "jailed ones"). I
had some little problems with facter at first but i have manualy
upgraded the servers that where affected by the little "facter does not
read his facts" problem i had. I should have missed something in my
deploiement.

Problem restarting client service ssh in client
Hello,
I want a simple operation in a puppet node like restarting the ssh
service if it was stopped. My site.pp is simple as this:
import "services/*"
node default {
include ssh
}
The services directory as a ssh.pp :
class ssh {
service { ssh:
ensure => running,
subscribe => File["/etc/ssh/sshd_config"]
}
}
I''ve stopped the ssh service in the

Puppet and Cfengine Differences
Hello,
I''ve recently begun looking at Puppet as an alternative to Cfengine and I
have a couple of questions.
1) Besides the information posted on the Puppet website, are there any
critical differences between Puppet and Cfengine?
2) Does Puppet allow for client-specific file text manipulation. For
instance, in Cfengine I can add a line of text to a file if the line doesn''t

Puppet File checksums directories
I''m not sure if this is the way things are supposed to happen but, when I
specify a directory with recursion and md5 checksums, the directory itself
is checksummed and assumed to have changed.
Of course, if anything in the directory changed, the directory checksum will
change.
What I would like to do is to manipulate all of the files in a directory,
but ignore the directory itself.

Absolute Beginner''s Guide
I''ve got about 40 linux/aix machines that I''d like assimilate into
config management with puppet. I''ve been reading lots of docs, recipes
and best practices. I''m wondering if there''s a guide somewhere that
lays out the most efficient way to spread the use of puppet across a
quantity of installed machines. I''d like to do first things first,

Scaling Puppet 0.22.1 to hunderdes of nodes.
Hi,
My environment is composed of ~250 workstations hitting a single
puppetmaster server, which has been working fairly well up until now.
The most recent change has been a migration of a lot of remote file copy
objects which were previously handled with cfengine.
client side puppetd calls to the puppetmaster.getconfig method are
taking unreasonably long, on the order of 2-3 minutes. It

Warning for Fedora Core users
Fedora Core 7 has just updated their Ruby package (was 1.8.6.36-3.fc7,
is now 1.8.6.110-3.fc7), and the upgrade broke my Puppet installation,
and there was a similar report from someone else.
Communications between the puppetmasterd and the puppetd running on
the same host broke down with the message:

ssl certificate problem
I''ve tried to implement puppetmaster High Availability (mon+heartbeat).
Herefore, the puppet client and puppet master are running on both servers.
When the puppet client starts up, it generates a certificate, public and
private key for the machine it runs on.
When the puppet master starts up, it changes something so that the puppet
client have no valid certificate anymore (the

puppet/naginator?
I''m very interested in the way that puppet appears to be able to
generate nagios configurations though I can''t seem to find any
documenation on how it works:
http://reductivelabs.com/trac/naginator
is clearly a placeholder page...
Meanwhile the various pieces of info at links such as:

are just teasing me.

Puppet as a push model
I just started digging into puppet and it looks like puppet is using a
pull model. You have a master server and clients talk to it to get
config info.
Is anyone out there using a push model? If not, why not? Are there
security reasons you would use one over the other?
It seems that cfengine also uses a push model, so I wondered if this is
a "standard" or if there are specific

What I am doing with Puppet.
Hi,
Luke asked me if I was willing to share what I am doing with the Puppet user
community. So here goes:
I am using puppet to manage one host right now. While that isn''t a good
advertisement for Puppet''s scaling capabilities, I find it interesting
because I built my single node (personal mail, svn, ci and web server) with
puppet where I could (clearly there was some

file diff?
Hello...
I am looking to replace my current config file management solution with
puppet. I looked at both cfengine and puppet and neither seem to have a
"diff" option. as in:
configfile { "/etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf":
source => "/httpd/httpd.conf"
}
will install a httpd.conf file. What I would like is to be able to see a
unified diff of the
