3ware RAID controller scripts
Hello list, I see through the archives that some people here use 3ware RAID controllers with Centos. I have picked up two 9500S-4LP controllers for future servers. I was hoping that if some people could please share their 3ware monitoring scripts with the rest of the group. What I am really hoping to do is have some setup where a cron job runs scripts to test each of the drives connected to the

Serial ATA hardware raid.
Hi everyone, I'm looking into setting up a SATA hardware raid, probably 5 to use with CentOS 4. I chose hardware raid over software mostly because I like the fact that the raid is transparent to the OS. Does anyone know of any SATA controllers that are well tested for this sort of usage? From what I can tell from googling, this is more or less where RHEL stands: Red Hat Enterprise Linux

2.6.9-42.ELsmp kernel and 3ware 9550 tools
I have the latest kernel with the drivers for my 3ware 9550SX built in. Where can I find the tools and monitoring apps for this card? Are there rpms hiding somewhere, or do I need to build it from source? -- Bowie

Centos 5.6 3ware raid 5
Hi, I've seen comments about the poor performance of these cards with raid 5 configs. I have an old card with 3 x 500G IDE drives connected in raid 5 and I'm getting around 10mb/s write performance. :-( I'm seeing high iowait figures at times and associated very high cpu load average figures, probably because, under load, everything is stacked up waiting for the disks to actually

Hardware RAID Controller
Hi Everyone, Has anyone had any experience of using the Promise FastTrak SX4000 or SuperTrak SX6000 IDE RAID Controllers under Centos (if it matters I'm using version 4). I've seen it listed on linuxcompatible.org as working but would prefer to find out any first-hand experince before I buy. I'm looking to build a new mini server based on Mini-ITX and have found a great 1U case

Software Raid 6
How slow and how reliable is software raid 6 on CentOS 5. The system I'm going to use is A socket 939 dual core Athlon, 4 gigs of ram and a 3ware 7506-8 controller. Its mostly going to be used for storage (Movies, MP3s etc.). Thanks. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

[OT/HW] hardware raid -- comment/experience with 3Ware
Greetings, I am looking for a hardware raid card that supports up to 4 SATA II hard disks with hot swap (compatible raid cage) I have short listed two LSI/3Ware cards: 1. 9750-4i 2. 9650SE-4LPML Both appear to be well supported in Linux. I would appreciate your personal experience with the CLI tools provided by LSI. Can they be configured to send email for disk failures or SMART errors? Is

Some 3Ware questions
I have not used RAID controller boards to date since I have relied on the built in RAID on the motherboards. Thanks to the informative message Byron, I realize the deficiencies of doing RAID 1 this way, especially now that the builtin is out of date with Kernel used by Centos. I have 4 ATA drives that were configured in two pairs. I assume that I need a 3Wave controller that has 4 ports

3ware 9000 install
I'm trying to do a fresh install on a new server that has a 3ware 9000 controller. I followed the instructions on the 3ware manual and used a floppy with the drivers for RH WS3 (Update 2) but it doesn't work. After it asks me to load the disk it reads for a while and then it says it did not find any drivers that pertain to this system. I tried loading the 3w9xxx driver unsuccesfully, it

Offtopic: 3ware Raid Controllers
Hi! I know this is a little bit offtopic, but i couldn't think of any other place where i can get uninfluenced first hand information on these controllers :) I've read about and experienced data loss/system lockup with older 3ware controllers, but the 3ware Escalade 7xxx (i'm especially interested in the 7850) sounds too good to ignore it (8 channels, 8 drives, raid 0/1/5/10,

[OT] 3Ware 9.2.1.1 firmware for 9000 series released ...
Claims to have fixed the write performance issues with multiple volumes. Haven't tried it personally (I do not have a 9500S card, and I have only installed one once for a client). NOTE: This (9.2.1.1) is an actual, formal, supported release -- not an unsupported engineering release. -- Bryan J. Smith | Sent from Yahoo Mail mailto:b.j.smith at ieee.org | (please excuse

[OT] 3Ware 9.2.1.1 firmware for 9000 series released
Here are the version numbers I get after installing the 9.2.1.1 release: Model 9500S-4LP Firmware FE9X 2.08.00.003 Driver 2.26.03.019fw BIOS BE9X 2.03.01.052 Boot Loader BL9X 2.02.00.001 A bit confusing. I thought I saw a map of code set releases to various version numbers but I couldn't find it on 3Ware's site. On Sun, 28 Aug 2005 at 9:20am, Bryan J. Smith wrote >

3ware SATA RAID Card
I've a 3ware Escalade 8006-2 and run Centos 4.2 using the latest kernel 2.6.9-34.0.2.ELsmp. I see that the card comes with some disk management tools called 3DM2 Management Utility. Is this ok to install? Is it good for reporting failed drives? Thanks Jon ___________________________________________________________ All New Yahoo! Mail ? Tired of Vi at gr@! come-ons? 7.0-Release and 3ware 9550SXU w/BBU - horrible write performance
Hi, I've got a new server with a 3ware 9550SXU with the Battery. I am using FreeBSD 7.0-Release (tried both 4BSD and ULE) using AMD64 and the 3ware performance for writes is just plain horrible. Something is obviously wrong but I'm not sure what. I've got a 4 disk RAID 10 array. According to 3dm2 the cache is on. I even tried setting The StorSave preference to

kldload uhci lockup
I observed that following could cause machine lockup since at least 8-CURRENT. Now I'm on 9-STABLE No usb in kernel, attached mouse pointer. # kldload usb ums ehci # kldload uhci or # kldload uhci usb ums ehci uhci is required for working mouse. Can anyone confirm? Please test few different iterations, as it's probably not easily reproducible. Most times nothing happens, if
