Problem with adding custom facts
Hi
I''m trying to add extra facts to facter. The puppetd is running on
Debian Etch Amd64 as Xen 3.1 guest. I''ve follow the Wiki on adding
the facts.
First I used relative path in the manifest and added "factsync=true"
in client''s puppetd.conf. And then tested it with "puppetd -vt". But
no matter what i tried, this error came:

Problem adding facts ...
I have created my first ''fact'', first attempt at Ruby too, and
configured the fileserver to server it but when a Fedora (5 or 6)
client sync''s puppetd appears to hang. CentOS clients sync and use the
new fact fine.
Find attached the fact file and the output from ''puppetd --debug
--factsync'' on a FC5 client is below. This is a 0.20.1 client and

Facts load by puppet -factsync question
fact loads:
I use facter to search the rsync path and then i write this sudoers line:
Cmnd_Alias BACKUPCOMMANDS = /usr/bin/rsync
I call puppet like this:
puppetd --factsync --server=xxx.yyy.61.131 --waitforcert 60 --test
the recipe is:
sudoensure_line { sudobackupcommands:
ligne => "Cmnd_Alias BACKUPCOMMANDS =
$rsyncpath",

Config is not actually up to date
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

I''ve been trying out some configurations and been frustrated because
they weren''t working how I would expect. After trying practically
everything I could think of, I tried removing everything except the most
basic elements to see what was going on. It turns out that my client is
thinking that there is no configuration change, when

Switching from webrick to mongrel
I got tired of restarting my puppetmaster when it stopped responding and
finally switched to mongrel last night.
When running under mongrel, what sort of concurrent connection rates are
people able to get? I dont know how many individual puppetmaster
processes I should spawn, or how to tell when I should span more.
Perhaps I need more than two, because this morning I had a look at how

Using case in class
OK, I started down this road a few months ago and got side tracked
with project work. I have a class called "install" that I want to use
with only machines on one protected subnet. In my site.pp file, among
other node entries, I have -
node default {
install
}
The class itself -
class install {
case $domain {

puppetmasterd file handle problem
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi all,
I''m running the latest version of puppet (debian 0.22.4-2), and I''ve
gotten to a point with my configuration where puppetmasterd needs to be
restarted every few days due to what seem like file handles not getting
closed.
I either see this set of errors:

Fact auto sync reloading
So we run puppetd as a long running ruby process on the hosts. When we update a fact that gets auto sync''d to the host it seems when puppetd wakes up and starts its catalog run it doesn''t re-sync the facts. It you run it standalone it will or if you restart the service then it will do the right thing. Do other people see this? Or have you all gone to running out of cron?

before everything
I have some facter file to distribute before running puppet on the platform.
The problem is :
how can i send the facter local.rb file so the rest of the .pp file take
into account the new facts created ?
ex: i have sudopath as a facter fact and one sudoers class that need
that sudopath to work. How do you model that ?
it seems puppet would have to rerun after the new local.rb is downloaded

Still having factsync trouble ...
Some time ago i sent to the list a problem i was having with facts on
fedora core 6 and wasn''t able to find a solution at that time, but with
the release of RHEL5 and CentOS 5 based on fc6 i have hit the problem again.
i have written several facts to collect information about a clients
network and i am also using the vmware fact from the wiki. i have

Puppet starting before network is up
Lots of my puppet hosts have DHCP-assigned addresses. I''ve found, at
least in Debian 4.0, that puppetd will often start up before the network
interfaces are all up and running, and therefore it can''t contact the
puppetmaster. When that happens, puppet exits immediately. I''m hacking
around the problem with the following content in /etc/default/puppet,

certificate issue with Branch Testing
Hello All,
I''m using the "Branch Testing" approach documented at
https://reductivelabs.com/trac/puppet/wiki/BranchTesting and am seeing
an issue with certificates.
On all clients, I can run puppetd --masterport=8141 successfully but see
the following error when I run against the default (8140) port:

pluginsync factsync etc
Hi,
When starting puppet on a new machine, (or when the $vardir/lib is empty)
puppet will not run the facts, it will only copy them.
on the second time puppet runs, it works quiet well:
on the client its defined:
[main]
pluginsync = true
pluginsource = puppet://$server/plugins
plugindest = $vardir/lib/puppet
factpath = $vardir/lib/puppet/facter
[puppetd]
factsync = true

I have factsync = true (default locations)
and I have a simple fact in /var/lib/puppet/facts/

my pp file I''m testing with contains only:

Can anyone help me with this error I am having. I am using puppet on
Debian Etch, version 0.20.1-1 from apt works OK, but due to one or two

puppetmaster built via puppetd
hi,
i''m trying to set up my puppetmaster infrastructure with multiple
puppetservers behind load balancers in each of our datacenters. i''m
using 0.24.6. i''ve read the howto on puppet scalability, and i think
i''ve got the ssl config working correct, but i''m noticing that when
puppetd is used to build a puppetmaster, some of the files in $vardir/
