R search engine broken (PR#6653)
Full_Name: St?phane Gourichon
Version: R 1.7.1 (2003-06-16).
OS: GNU/Linux
Submission from: (NULL) (132.227.205.226)
The HTML help is great. But the search engine is broken.
It used to work in Galeon 1.x, not Konqueror 3.0 .
Now it doesn't work, neither on Mozilla 1.6 / Firebird 0.6 / Firefox 0.8 nor
Konqueror 3.2 which are IMHO the latest versions of those advanced,
standard-compliant

help.start( )
Dear R experts,
I installed R-1.7.1 on Linux (Red Hat 9.0) starting from R-1.7.1.tgz without a problem. Then I fired up R and tried things and found that help.start( ) does not work. I downloaded Sun Java j2re1.4.2, installed that and re-installed R-1.7.1 from scratch. I tried help.start( ) again and the browser (Mozilla 1.2.1) crashed.
I read about copying libjavaplugin_oji.so into

openoffice port build on FreeBSD 4.9
I am very new to FreeBSD and Unix in general. I may
have more problems than I think, but here goes. I am
trying to make depend && install WITH_BSD_JDK=TRUE
clean with openoffice. Everything works fine until I
get to the jvm section (seen below). I have tried
looking for this on the net, but I have not been to
successful in finding a solution.
Thanks for your help.

The search engine use the java plugin but the java plugin is not

I have a linux box : fedora 4 on 64bit and R2.1.1
When I start the search engine, I had the message that the java plugin
was missing.
So I try to install manual the java run time jre-1.5 for the AMD64, but

stat(2) cache, samba3 versus samba4
Short version:
Is there a way to enforce use of this cache:
./source3/smbd/statcache.c
I noticed it is absent from the ./source4 directory
I limited
server max protocol = SMB2
but that didn't do it.
Long story:
-----------
My samba server (4.2.14) hosts a couple of game install trees for a
Windows 7 computer.
Some of the games cause storms of stat(2) system calls, here is a

RH 8.0, Mozilla and help.start() - Deja Vu All Over Again....
Hi all,
In the continuing process of dealing with the upgrades to Mozilla under
RH 8.0 Linux (present stable release is 1.3) and as a result, the
"breakage" of R's help.start() function, which is a java applet based
search engine, I wanted to point out to folks some key points of
information.
If you are upgrading to Mozilla version 1.3 under RH 8.0 from an older
version, even

Are there any plans for flac for java (JNI or Otherwise?).
I am working on a java mp3 jukebox, and would like to add flac support.

Java?
I'd be happy to (help) port the source to Java. How many lines of code are
we talking?
If preferable, I could just do a front-end to a JNI interface to flac.

Possible solution for Mozilla/help.start() search problems
I thought that I would post a follow up given the several posts on this
same subject in the past week. All R comments pertain to 1.6.1.
Earlier in the week using a development build of Mozilla under RH 8.0, I
was able to get the help.start() based search engine to work with both
Java and JavaScript enabled. This was using what I believed to be the
V1.2b branch of Mozilla, in which both Xft

Is it feasible to cross-build compat5x binary?
Hi folks,
I think we need to update compat5x binary to fix FreeBSD-SA-05:21.openssl,
but will the binaries built by ``make universe'' be identical with actual
build on Alpha, Sparc64, etc? (Yes, I'm volunteering to do the work iff
they are identical ;-)
Cheers,

Calling R from Java (trying the R interface to Omegahat and Java)
Dear R-helpers,
I run R version 2.8.1 (2008-12-22) on i386-apple-darwin8.11.1
I would like to call R from Java. I downloaded SJava_0.69-0.tar.gz,
and then issued the command suggested on http://www.omegahat.org/
RSJava/ :
% R INSTALL -c SJava_0.69-0.tar.gz
ARGUMENT 'INSTALL' __ignored__
WARNING: unknown option '-c'

USB2.0/Firewire Enclosure
I (work :) bought a USB2.0/Firewire enclosure and I had a little trouble with
it until I came across this page
http://people.freebsd.org/~maho/USB/comment/ku350a.txt after trying the
sysctl things work well.
I haven't tried the USB2.0 side of it, as I don't have any USB2.0 controllers.
The Firewire bit works great too (quite a bit faster than USB1 :)
The enclosure in question is made

Bug#123084: r-base: R documentatio search engine unusable with Mozilla 6 (OK with netscape 4.7x) (PR#1202)
As there is nothing Debian-specific in this bug report (and the .deb of the
JVW is not from Debian either), I am forwarding this to R-bugs. My
recollection from recent discussions on the R mailing list is that currently
/no/ browser other than Netscape supports the Java search engine -- is that
correct or was there some Netscape derivative (galeon?) which does?
Maybe the documentation should be

Makefile vs Makevars vs configure
Apologies in advance for the long post.
I'm currently using a Makefile to build my shared library. Pursuant to the
R-exts manual, I'd like to switch to a Makevars file or a configure file if
necessary.
Having never used these types of make utilities before, I'm a bit lost.
My package is quite simple. It only has one source file and one header:
excelpoi.cpp
excelpoi.h

cross compiling (arm)
Hi.
I'm trying to cross compile dovecot.
My desktop machine is an AMD64 box with bells and whistles. The ARM
based machine is a network attached storage box. When I run "make"
always get x86_64 binaries.
My OS is Gentoo, so I have been able to build using emerge a variety of
other programs from source. What am I doing wrong here. (Gentoo
doesn't have Dovecot for the arm)

I'd be interested in helping too. I'm pretty new, but I think that JNI
would be the easiest way to go. of course, never having done anything with
JNI, what do I know :)
