[SAGE] FreeBSD 4.4-REL to FreeBSD 4.8-STABLE upgrade problem.
Before reading below: I am considering a new install rather than an upgrade of our servers. However, now I just want to beat this problem. :) At 02:19 PM 7/8/2003 +0000, Phil Pennock wrote: >On 2003-07-08 at 14:09 +0000, Phil Pennock wrote: > > There was a fairly major update to the IDE disk device handlers which > > required new device nodes. vinum (root on vinum too) throw_rude_remark crash: endless loop
Dear colleagues, experimenting with vinum stripes and mirrors, I'd stuck myself with the following: panic: throw_rude_remark: called without config lock (from vinumconfig.c:throw_rude_remark:103) The system before this panic has two 160G drives with two vinum partitions on each (one for mirrored root and one for the rest with swap between); these were ad0 and ad2. For the experiments,

System hanging in acpi during shutdown
This morning, I upgraded my main system to an up-to-date -STABLE including acpi and it now hangs during shutdown after reporting: Waiting (max 60 seconds) for system process `vnlru' to stop...stopped If I set hw.acpi.disable_on_poweroff=0 then the shutdown completes but poweroff fails with (hand copied): ACPI-1287: ***Error: Method execution failed [\_PTS] (Node 0xc21ed450),

support of SMBus on ICH3
Hello all, I have problems with enabling support for SMBus on STABLE. My motherboard is ICH3 (82801CA). As suggested in LINT I added 3 lines to my kernel config: device smbus device ichsmb device smb But after compiling, installing and rebooting /dev/smb[01] are not available and no changes in kernel startup messages either. So I

My Grandstream works, but my X-Lite doesn't:no sound after 5sec
This is troubling. Hi folks on debian stable I've a default samba file sharing config. Everything works perfectly (almost...) - samba version 3.6.6 >From linux and windows clients (wired and wifi too) when I (i.e. listen musics) often (one time every 4/5 minutes) networks suddenly collapse (for less one second) and immediately goes up. Slow connection
Hi, Last week I discovered that my samba-server seems rather slow. When I searched around I discovered that I wasn't the only one experiencing this, but I didn't find a solution. I experimented a little, and I hope someone can suggest a solution. First my server : SuSE 8.1, with Samba 2.2.5 (comes with the distribution). From a WinME-client I uploaded a 160Mb file to the samba-server.

"bug" with ifconfig ... ?
I just made one of my 4.x remote servers inaccessible and just tested it on my 5.x laptop, and it does the same thing ... not sure if this is considered a 'desirable' effect, or a but ... but ... 'ifconfig <device> -alias' will wipe out all IPs on the device: mobile# ifconfig -a lo0: flags=8049<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 16384 inet 127.0.0.1 netmask

FreeBSD 7.0 + Xen 3.1 + HVM: Success!
Just thought I'd pass along that I have successfully installed FreeBSD 7.0 into a Xen 3.1 HVM. ?This one went as smooth as I expected, considering my experience with 6.3. ?Haven't done any benchmarking or stress testing or port installs or anything. ?But so far it's working nicely. Here's all the info. ?If you'd like to see anything else, let me know. Host hardware: ?

6.0-REL problems with ISA ed0, FFS corruption and ancient hardware
[ Asked on -questions on Friday; re-asking now on -stable without cross-post] I recently upgraded a 4.11-REL machine to 6.0-REL and have run into some snags. While the installation from CD went fine, after configuring and enabling my ed0 NIC, bad things start to happen. FWIW, this machine is an ancient (hardware circa 1991, BIOS circa 1994) dual-Pentium 133 MHz machine, with EISA/PCI and

[Bridge] recent crashes? Linux kernel 2.6.18-1.2239.fc5 (Linux Fedora Core 5)
At the risk of angering the crash Gods, my sustem has NOT crashed again since I downgraded the kernel from 2.6.18-1.2239.fc5 to 2.6.18-1.2200.fc5. Given that newfound stability, and my lack of time, I'm going to put on hold any further diagnostics, until the next kernel revision is released. I have submitted a report at bugzilla.redhat.com (bug 218128). (Ah, nuts; accidentally created a
