make index / portsdb -Uu problems
Cheers,
Anyone seeing problems with the "make index" or the "portsdb -Uu"
runs on 4.8-STABLE cvsupd today after 1PM CDT.
Mine are quite borked up, and am trying to determine if the
problems are local to my system.
I have posted to the ports list earlier in the day also.

portupgrade issue
I am running 4.8-STABLE.
I recently did a cvsup (repeatedly, most recently today). Ever since,
portupgrade dies with the following messages:

HELP! rsync won't upload my .htpasswd files
Hello,
I'm in the process of launching a site (http://www.intraspect.com
<http://www.intraspect.com/> ).
I'm using rsync to synchronize between our staging server and our
production server. All of my files are uploading correctly except for a
couple of .htpasswd files which reside in /var/apache/webscripts
I'm guessing that they won't upload because they start with

smbd won't start!! Please help!!
Hi.
We have had SAMBA running successfully at work here for a while, it's on a
Sun Sparc Solaris 2.6. The version of samba is 2.0.0.
Unfortunately our sysadmin has left the company, and I have to try and fix a
problem with Samba. When I try and start samba, "nmbd" starts ok, but "smbd"
doesn't start.
When I check the log files, I get these errors:

Thanks,
I think, I found the problem. It seems to related locale setting.
If I start with 'LANG=C R' everything's good.

I was not able to reproduce this problem. I tried two environments
1. Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS, R version 3.4.2 (same R version as yours)
2. Windows 10, same R version

More mount_smbfs
Thanks to Will Saxon I'm finally able to mount Samba shares on my 5.1-R
box using the command
mount_smbfs -I 129.197.36.34 -W acct01 //bfosdick@129.197.36.34/net-11
/sp/net-11
which then prompts me for my password. So now the question is...how do I
put this in /etc/fstab? What do I do about the password?

zfs_nocacheflush
A question regarding zfs_nocacheflush:
The Evil Tuning Guide says to only enable this if every device is
protected by NVRAM.
However, is it safe to enable zfs_nocacheflush when I also have
local drives (the internal system drives) using ZFS, in particular if
the write cache is disabled on those drives?
What I have is a local zfs pool from the free space on the internal
drives, so I''m

How do I get my pool back?
After having to replace an internal raid card in an X2200 (S10U3 in

However, my zpool has gone.

CentOS 7 32-bit WiFi Hardware Switch
Not exactly linux-dependent. According to the docs for the Latitude 620 (available on dell dot com), the wireless switch is on the left side. Slide it towards the front, until its raised position indicator is aligned with the I ("off" is aligned with the O). The WiFi power indicator is on the front panel, in a group with about 4 LEDs... the WiFi indicator appears to actually *say*

Installing splancs_2.01-9 on Red Hat Linux 7.3
Hi all,
I'm trying to install the splancs contributed package on a Redhat 7.3
system with R 1.5.1 installed. I've installed the readline41-4.1-10 RPM
which Redhat requires for R and it works great, thanks very much.
However, when I attempt to R CMD INSTALL splancs_2.01-9.tar.gz as root,
I get the following error message during the install:

Strange performance loss
I''m moving some data off an old machine to something reasonably new.
Normally, the new machine performs better, but I have one case just now
where the new system is terribly slow.
Old machine - V880 (Solaris 8) with SVM raid-5:

15043722 foo

user 0.964

ZFS and powerpath
How much fun can you have with a simple thing like powerpath?
Here''s the story: I have a (remote) system with access to a couple
of EMC LUNs. Originally, I set it up with mpxio and created a simple
zpool containing the two LUNs.
It''s now been reconfigured to use powerpath instead of mpxio.
My problem is that I can''t import the pool. I get:
pool: ######
