ypwhich -m
Hi, I found that ypwhich -m does not work on 6.1-RC, it shows ypwhich: can't find the master of `?`: reason: No such map in server's domain IIRC, there was a commit last year to fix this. After some search, I think it is include/rpcsvc/yp_prot.h revision 1.13 done by peter@ (CC'ed). As far as I can tell, ypwhich -m is also broken on 5.4 and 5.5-PRERELEASE. I have tested that

Equilivant for a sshchroot file?
Hey guys I really have made use of the ftpchroot file in /etc but I wonder why is there no equivalent of that for ssh and telnet accounts? Basically simply limiting traversing the file system to specific shell users root. Regards, Jason

Why does a vlan created against em0 have a mtu of 1496. This is on 4.8-STABLE (cvsup'd this afternoon). Encrypted volume - how?
Hi all, I'm looking for a way to recreate the functionality of PGP Disk (under Win32). Basically, create an encrypted file, which contains a filesystem which can then be mounted in any mount point. I know I can use GELI in FreeBSD 6 - as I understand, it performs the encryption at the partition level (the whole partition is encrypted). I'd like to be able to simply unmount my

Kernel-loadable Root Kits
Thanks for the module, I think its a good idea to commit it to FreeBSD for a few reasons: 1) Some folks just prefer more static kernels. 2) Securelevel is a great thing, but can be a pain to do upgrades around remotely. [A lot of folks use FreeBSD simply because its a breeze to run remotely]. 3) Until someone writes code to add modules to a kernel via /dev/mem and releases it to the script

ee using 99% cpu after user ssh session terminates abnormaly
Recently i have been using a dialup 56k account to access the net and have noticed that when my ssh session times out and I am editing a file in ` ee ' the system goes to 99% cpu usage and stays like this till the pid is killed. This is a standard user account (not root/su) Would a user be able to create a denial of service condition on the remote system using this bug? (sorry if this is

Dell PE600SC with ServerWorks CSB6
Hello! Has anyone gotten 4.9R to recognize the "ServerWorks CSB6" ATA controller on a Dell 600SC? How about installing 5.2R on a 600SC? 5.2R recognizes the said controller, but it corrupts data. -- eof

Changing `security@freebsd.org' alias
Hello Folks, The official email address for this list is `freebsd-security@freebsd.org'. Due to convention, there is an email alias for this list: security@freebsd.org, just as there is for hackers@ & freebsd-hackers@, arch@ & freebsd-arch@, and so on. The security@freebsd.org alias has been the source of occassional problems. Several times in the past, postings have been made to

[panic] ipw and kismet
Hello, I almost always get a panic when running kismet on my ipw-Interface under 6.1-PRERELEASE. This has been the case ever since ipw hit the tree. Sometimes kismet works, sometimes it doesn't. A sure way to trigger the panic is to switch between bss/ibss/monitor mode prior to running kismet. Perhaps there is a bug in the re-initialization when loading a different firmware? Is this panic

Any ongoing effort to port /etc/rc.d/pf_boot, /etc/pf.boot.conf from NetBSD ?

FireWire Security issues
Hello, looking into the issue described in the advisory below I wonder how to tackle this issues. Primarily I ask myself * is there any reason not to filter all physical memory access by default * what would be the appropriate way to change the filter set? a sysctl? em(4) + ALTQ broken
I'm having problems getting PF + ALTQ to work on em(4) interfaces under 8.0-RELEASE. Kernel was rebuilt with the additional options necessary for ALTQ and what not. Same basic configuration works fine under 7.2-RELEASE. Basically, the queues create successfully but running a pfctl -vsq shows a zero packet/byte count for all queues, even the interface's root queues. This same problem is

Report of collision-generation with MD5
Just got a pointer to this via ACM "TechNews Alert" for today: http://www.acm.org/technews/articles/2004-6/0818w.html#item2 Seems that "... French computer scientist Antoine Joux reported on Aug. 12 his discovery of a flaw in the MD5 algorithm, which is often used with digital signatures...." There's more in the article cited above. PF - pf not loading non-persist tables from main ruleset on 8.3-PRERELEASE
Hello list, I installed a box recently and updated it to 8.3-PRERELEASE on 2012/04/11 I'm experiencing this extremely weird behavior where PF refuses to load standard and const table definitions from the main ruleset. - persist tables load just fine - normal and const tables inside anchors load just fine Does anyone else have the same problem ? I'll try to update the kernel again,

acts_as_tree with Modified Preorder Traversal?
Has anyone extended Rails''s acts_as_tree to use the Modified Preorder Traversal algorithm? This is a really clever trick for optimizing access to trees stored in databases, as described lucidly in this article: http://www.sitepoint.com/article/hierarchical-data-database/2 It adds two integer fields, a "left counter" and "right counter", to each row. Problem in S4 object displaying from within a Java application using JRI
I am using JRI (Java R Interface) library in order to call R from within my Java application. But since the "rmu1" and "rmu2" ,see the following code, are objects of type S4 once i run the application the value of Null will be returned for both of them. On this regard, i would appreciate it if anyone can tell me how i am going to display and/ or convert these objects to Java
