Migration from tpop3d to dovecot - troubles galore!
Hi people, I am trying to migrate some users from tpop3d (Maildir mailboxes) to dovecot. The most important aspect of this migration, and which I cannot seem to get right, is to first be able to make dovecot to authenticate against the current DB being used by tpop3d so that I can use imapsync to transfer the user mails. And I do believe that is what I am unable to get right!! So here goes what

Rotating Dovecot's logfile
Any *BSD user on this list already having a means of rotating the dovecot logfile? Restricting Services (POP or IMAP)
It would be great to have a HOWTO in the wiki, on how to restrict services by username in dovecot, so some users are allowed IMAP and others not allowed. As concerns restricting users by IP, I believe that is a bad idea. It's almost a useless idea, imnsho, because they can connect from another IP. It's easy to restrict services by IP using a firewall or by using inetd. -Wash

1.0rc7 - dumb question
I am configuring dovecot 1.0rc7 to authenticate users (system users) in /etc/passwd. Is it possible to use a different auth mechanism, other than "plain", when the encrypted password is in /etc/master.passwd (BSD style)? -Wash http://www.netmeister.org/news/learn2quote.html DISCLAIMER: See http://www.wananchi.com/bms/terms.php --

BZIP2 Support in the Base system
The FreeBSD 4.x (4.8-STABLE) has contributed sources for BZIP2 in the base system under /usr/src/contrib/bzip2. My problem is that I am not succeeding in building these sources for some strange reason. Some apps that I run would do well if I could get to install these success- fully. If there is anyone has succeeded, I'd highly appreciate the steps they went through to get bzip2 to build.

Dovecot hung or what?
Here is my first major problem with dovecot. I am running rc15 on FreeBSD 6.1. I run dovecot supervised by DJB's daemontools. I run only the pop3 service. A colleague informed me that pop3 service was simply not responding. They could not rcv mail. When I checked the server, tail-ing dovecot.log, here is what was scrolling: [wash at nbi ~]$ tail -f /var/log/dovecot.log dovecot: Nov 23

Migrating from courier-imap to dovecot
Hello Gang, I am new to dovecot and the only reason (so far) I would like to use dovecot, and in production with 12k+ users, is the fact that it's supposed to be faster and less of a resource hog. Now, sometimes I am really good at reading the documentations but it sometimes happens that one overlooks something. I did read the migration notes three times! My users are in /etc/passwd and I

aaccli on recent conrollers?
I have just built a new SunFire X4100 server with an Adaptec 2230SLP RAID card using FreeBSD 6.2-PRE kernel (from September 20). Everything is working extremely well except I cannot run the aaccli utility on this controller. When I try to open the controller, it gives this error: Command Error: <The current AFAAPI.DLL is too old to work with the current controller software.> On

6.0-REL problems with ISA ed0, FFS corruption and ancient hardware
[ Asked on -questions on Friday; re-asking now on -stable without cross-post] I recently upgraded a 4.11-REL machine to 6.0-REL and have run into some snags. While the installation from CD went fine, after configuring and enabling my ed0 NIC, bad things start to happen. FWIW, this machine is an ancient (hardware circa 1991, BIOS circa 1994) dual-Pentium 133 MHz machine, with EISA/PCI and

utf-8 support in libc?
Reading thru one of the postgres mailing lists regarding which character encoding to use for a database, someone chimed in and claimed this: Umm, you should choose an encoding supported by your platform and the locales you use. For example, UTF-8 is a bad choice on *BSD because there is no collation support for UTF-8 on those platforms. On Linux/Glibc UTF-8 is well supported but you

I am trying to upgrade my system from 4.7RELEASE to 4.8STABLE. hifn(4) causing system lockup
Hi all, can someone comment on the state of the hifn(4) driver? I've recently upgraded my 6.2-STABLE workstation to RELENG_7, and I'm now experiencing system lockups that seem to be caused by the hifn(4) driver. I've got a Soekris vpn1401 card to help with GELI disk en- cryption. Reading from a GELI volume is causing the system to freeze completely, which does not happen if

Hardcoded krb reference in ports/postfix
Hi, There's a hardcoded reference to /usr/lib/libkrb.a in Makefile.inc. Is there a special reason, that there's no knob but a file check? AFAIK - my /usr/lib/libkrb.a stems from the 4.2-RELEASE cd install I started this comp with (it's dated Nov 2000) and thus hasn't been updated since and any linkage with it, results in undefined des(3) references. Since sysutils/libchk
