MIT Krb5 Port Upgrade
I will be updating the MIT krb5 port to krb5-1.3.2 this weekend. Unfortunately crypto-publish.org does not distribute the new source yet. Traditionally I disabled support for fetch from crytpo-publish.org until they updated their website with the latest krb5 sources, requiring the port to fetch the source from MIT in all cases. This time will be different, that is unless of course someone

fontconfig-2.1.93 considered more harmful
There is an ongoing thread "fontconfig-2.1.92 considered harmful" on -CURRENT. Because I have not moved to -CURRENT, I post this to -STABLE. Since I upgraded to fontconfig-2.1.93 (on Apr 14) a lot of ports start to complain a lot of "Cannot fork: Resource temporarily unavailable" errors. What resource ? I inserted top into my ports build script to notice that a lot of

vorbiscomment long string bug?
As I understand it, any attribute=value line in a vorbis comment can be arbitrarily long (up to 2^32 -1 bytes). The easytag program allows adding the album cover art and other images into the vorbis comment as ALBUMART=xxxx where xxxx is a base64 encoded data of the image file. This makes for a very long line. If I do this to extract the vorbis comment of a file with an embedded cover art (the

Re: [xiph-commits] r14188 - trunk/vorbis-tools/vorbiscomment
I don't agree with the s/Ogg Vorbis/Vorbis/. vorbiscomment does edit Ogg Vorbis files, not Vorbis streams in any other encapsulation. -r On Mon, Nov 19, 2007 at 07:01:43AM -0800, ivo@svn.xiph.org wrote: > Author: ivo > Date: 2007-11-19 07:01:43 -0800 (Mon, 19 Nov 2007) > New Revision: 14188 > > Modified: > trunk/vorbis-tools/vorbiscomment/vorbiscomment.1 > Log:

Image Science vs. RMagick
I''m looking at possibly going with Image Science (http:// seattlerb.rubyforge.org/ImageScience.html) for an application in development. I''ve heard that it is a lot less overhead than RMagick and we really don''t have any complex image requirements. Are there any folks out there using Image Science that could chime in with some feedback? Also, I have a couple specific

EBimage package for materials science
Dear R users, In last R News, a new package was appeared. EBimage image processing package seems so powerful. But in R News, it is used for the images of cells under microscope. So, i wonder whether there is anyone who use this package for materials science applications such as determination of mean diameter of particles, fibers or pores, estimation of porosity or covering factor. Sincerely...

[LLVMdev] LLVM Helps Science!
Thought you all would appreciate some real-world feedback on how LLVM is helping scientists tackle some of the big problems of the day. http://www.hpcwire.com/features/Fusion-Gets-Faster-51820167.html LLVM is a key technology on Jaguar and the LLVM community should be proud about its work and how it is helping scientists explore things never possible before. Cheers!

Should echo cancellation be a "science" or an "art"?
Perhaps 90% of my calls -- over a Uniden and a Grandstream -- are fine. The other 10% get some nasty echoes. Is there some magic something I should be tweaking? I kind of thought that echo cancellation was static, rather than dynamic, and that it's difficult to be able to cope with something like this. Am I (hopefully) mistaken? Any pointers on what to do about echo cancellation would be

I noticed I get echo on line when my internet connection is congested (during file downloads, for instance).
