SSD becomes detached 9.2
Hello,
I am setting up a new (remote) server. I initially installed 9.2 RC4
amd64 because that's what the data center put in the drive for me.
Shortly thereafter I downloaded 9.2-STABLE sources and compiled world
and a generic kernel. While doing so the system became unreachable by
SSH The SSH sessions appeared to connect but there was never any data
returned. I could telnet to port 22

VB Code to convert BMP to LSS for splash screens
The following code can be used to convert a 256 color BMP to LSS format for use as a SYSLINUX/ISOLINUX/PXELINUX Splash screen. The bitmap must be LESS than 640 pixels wide (bug) and only uses the first 16 colors. CorelDraw and PhotoShop are good for re-palletizing and dithering.

gjournal on 6.x wont build
Hi all,
I was intending on trying out gjournal on a new disk i've added in my
desktop. I had a look to see what the most recent patch provided by
Pawel and found
http://people.freebsd.org/~pjd/patches/gjournal6_20061024.patch
I created the directories as per Pawel's original post
(http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-fs/2006-June/001962.html)
and the patch succeeded with no failed

PATCH: Forcible delaying of UFS (soft)updates
Here's a patch against 4.8-RELEASE kernel that allows disk writes on
softupdates-enabled filesystems to be delayed for (theoretically)
arbitrarily long periods of time. The motivation for such updating
policy is surprisingly not purely suicidal - it can allow disks on
laptops to spin down immediately after I/O operations and stay idle for
longer periods of time, thus saving considerable amount

vfs_shadow_copy2 delimiter not working
Hi
I could not get a custom "shadow:delimiter" for the vfs shadow_copy2
module to work successfully for me with Samba 4.6.2. I did not try
previous versions. Based on my testing it seems that an additional line
of code is needed in vfs_shadow_copy2.c as shown in the patch below
(some comment updates are included too for code readability).
Without the below patch, previous versions

another buffer overrun in sperl5.003
Summary:
Any user can gain root privileges on a Intel Linux system with suidperl
5.003 (having the suid bit, of course) even if "SUIDBUF" and "two suidperl
security patches" have been applied. Non-Intel / non-Linux platforms may
be affected as well.
Quick fix:
chmod u-s /usr/bin/sperl5.003 (what else?)
Details:
There is a nasty bug in mess() (util.c): it is possible to

Anyone successfully using a HP 8000 DN or HP 5 Lsi (with JetDirect module

Linux DoS attack through autoprobing
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
The autodetection routines for some linux modules can tie up the

A very simple exploit is

A suggested fix is to remove or chmod 0 device nodes for hardware

PATCH: Samba/Win2K renaming bug
Hi there. I'm running Samba 2.2.3a on RedHat 7.1 + kernel 2.4.17. My
girlfriend's laptop is running Windows 2000 + service pack 2. She has
about a thousand MP3s stored on a Samba share on my RedHat machine. We
were finding that she couldn't rename any MP3s on the Samba share: she
would always get a sharing violation.
After a day of reading Samba logs at debug 10 (_such_ fun [ ;)

[patch] Raw sockets in jails
Although RAW sockets can be used when specifying the source
address of packets (defeating one of the aspects of the jail)
some people may find it usefull to use utilities like ping(8)
or traceroute(8) from inside jails.
Enclosed is a patch I have written which gives you the option
of allowing prison-root to create raw sockets inside the prison,

extract all numbers from a string
Hi all,
I have been beating my head against this problem for a bit,
but I can't figure it out.
I have a series of strings of variable length, and each will
have one or more numbers, of varying format. E.g., I might
have:
tmpstr = "The first number is: 32. Another one is: 32.1.
Here's a number in scientific format, 0.3523e10, and
another, 0.3523e-10, and a negative,

powerd not behaving with an Asus A8V-MX and Athlon 64 X2 3800+
I have an Asus A8V-MX motherboard with an AMD Athlong 64 X2 3800+ CPU
and I'm trying to run powerd to keep it cooler/quieter/greener.
I'm running -STABLE (6.1-RC) cvsup'ed a couple of days ago, with a
kernel config that consists of the SMP sample plus an atapicam
device.
I'm loading the cpufreq.ko module in /boot/loader.conf.
I've attached my dmesg output and sysctl -a

nforce2 usb is broken on -stable
Hi All,
I'm running stable from August 19/2003.
I've got a few A7N8X-Deluxe boards. One Rev1.0 and two Rev2.0. While
the 1.0 board works, the 2.0 boards lock up on boot during the uhub0 bus
discovery.
It's extremely frustrating :) ...
While I can boot without the devices and attach them later, the devices

Motherboard for home zfs/solaris file server
Hello,
I am building a home file server and am looking for an ATX mother board
that will be supported well with OpenSolaris (onboard SATA controller,
network, graphics if any, audio, etc). I decided to go for Intel based
boards (socket LGA 775) since it seems like power management is better
supported with Intel processors and power efficiency is an important
factor. After reading several

[LLVMdev] LiveIntervals analysis problem
Hello everyone,
please I need your help.
To reproduce my problem I created simple pass for backends (TestPass.cpp
in attached files). That pass I call from Mips backend in this way
(MipsTargetMachine.cpp):
bool MipsPassConfig::addPreRegAlloc() {
addPass(createTestPass());
return false;
}
The problem becomes, when I am trying compile file ldtoa.ll (in attached
files). Compiling
