Errors Building 4.8
I have been trying to build the latest 4.8 Stable on a 4.8 Stable system mainly
go get the latest fixes, but on "make buildworld" I keep getting the same
problem for the past few days.
I've even completely removed /usr/src and /usr/obj (ok I backed it up) and
re-cvsuped the code and started a-new. I attached the complete "make buildworld"
from after that.
Anyone have

DMA related disc issues
Howdy. I apologize for vagueness of this report but I am not immediately sure
how to proceed with this or what details will be relevant.
I look after a community server which has been running just fine for the last
6 months or so with no disk issues at all. The box has an all in one Shuttle
motherboard which uses the VIA 8233 ATA133 disk controller according to what
I see from dmesg. The

isolinux 2.01 bug with Compaq and Promise BIOS
I have a Compaq something with a PII-400 and an Intel 440BX/ZX/DX
chipset. I put in a Maxtor Ultra133 PCI controller (which is a Promise
PDC20269, same as their TX2) and connected the hard drive thereto.
Before we go on, I should say that I **hate** both Promise and Compaq. I
wouldn't actually BUY this junk. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth,
as they say. :) (An old idiom I grew up

7.1 new install halts on BTX error
I upgraded my 7.0 system to 7.1-RELEASE with freebsd-update only to find
that it no longer boots correctly, instead crashing with a BTX backtrace.
If I break to the loader prompt and use 'ls /boot', I also get a
backtrace.
A new install of 7.1 on this hardware using a separate SCSI card and drive
array also leads to a BTX backtrace. I have copied this below as the first

Is rl broken?
Greetings,
I cvsup'd and rebuilt a FreeBSD 4.8 system last Friday after receiving the
realpath security advisory. The machine is remote and the NIC uses the rl
driver. After booting the machine I had no network connectivity. The
person at the remote site says the boot was normal and he could see that the
NIC was properly configured but he could not ping it and I could not login.
We booted

How does UDMA mode get set?
Hi all,
I have been tracking -STABLE on one of my home machines for a little
while, now and noticed something the other day.
I was given this system, and I have only run FreeBSD-STABLE on it. The
motherboard is a Supermicro370SWD with an Intel 810 "Whitney" chipset
(82810DC100 GMCH + 82801AA ICH). The docs say that there is support for
UDMA66, but FreeBSD reports that the drive is

IPFILTER_DEFAULT_BLOCK & No route to host
Hi,

In addition, the machine cannot ping itself.

cvsup with tag=. on src and upgrading (in general)
I'm just getting into regular use with cvsup (way over do on that one),
and I tried to specify a tag=. in the cvsup file. Here's the file:

# *default tag=RELENG_5_1_0_RELEASE
*default tag=.

Hard Drive size not correctly being Detected on Dell 8100
Hello,
I didn't recieve a response on freebsd-mobile, so I'm trying here.
I'm trying to install FreeBSD 4.7-RELEASE or 5.0-RELEASE onto my Dell
Inspirion 8100. I'mjust doing a Standard installation and when FDisk loads I
get:
Disk name: ad0
DISK Geometry: 88 cyls/255 heads/63 sectors = 1413720 sectors (690MB)
So I go and manually change the drive geometry with the G option and

ATA DMA issues - are there problems lurking in 7.1?
Greetings,
I have several Tyan S2518UGN (Thunder LE-T) server boards that I've
been running for a few yrs. I've always used the SCSI on them, so never
really used the ATA ports. I once experimented dual-booting NT2003 & FBSD
on one of the ATA ports about a year ago. But ran into the problem I'm
running into now. Back then I just blamed it on the drive (even tho it
was brand new,

Hardening production servers
Greetings,
Apologies if this is not the appropriate list, but my questions are about
best practices in maintaining production servers (so I believe I can justify
a post in -stable, short of a -release list :)
I maintain a modest installation of 6 FreeBSD servers. They're CVSUP'd to
RELENG_4_8 (I make buildworld on each individually) and I portupgrade ports
as necessary. In an attempt to

World broken - pkgwrap.c missing
Hi
Just double cvsup'd RELENG_4 and buildworld exits in
usr.sbin/pkg_install/lib
pkgwrap.c is not present but is required in the Makefile.
Cheers

RE: +AFs-Asterisk-Users+AF0- Multi-line, multi-registration phones
Okay, so like this?
PHONE1+AD0-SIP/2000
PHONE2+AD0-SIP/3000
PHONE3+AD0-SIP/4000
ALL+AD0AJAB7-PHONE1+AH0AJgAkAHs-PHONE2+AH0AJgAkAHs-PHONE3+AH0-
Then you would have
Exten +AD0APg- s,1,Dial(+ACQAew-ALL+AH0-,20)
Is that right?
I have read about the Macros but don't understand their use. Could
someone provide an example?
Sorry about the newby questions... This will hopefully be my

liveice problem
Hello everybody...
I figure this is not exactly an icecast question, but maybe
someone might be able to help.
Icecast runs nicely as far as I can see, and so does liveice,
apart from the fact I don't get any input signal fed into it. I
think it's due to the fact it expects the signal on line in by
default and the souncard only has a mic in. So I tried to use
the built in mixer mode,
