rl(4) is broken in STABLE
Hi!
Revisions 1.38.2.17/1.38.2.18 of src/sys/pci/if_rl.c
(and corresponding 1.14.2.6 of src/sys/pci/if_rlreg.h) broke rl(4)
at least for D-Link DFE 530TX+ 10/100BaseTX.
I've sent PR an hour ago but still did not get its number.
Meantime I've rolled back these revisions, rebuilt kernel
and my NICs work again.

7.1-R to RELENG_7 upgrade breaks re nic
Hi,
I upgraded my 7.1-RELEASE system to RELENG_7 yesterday and after
booting, re0 works for only a short time, then gives "re0: PHY read
failed" over and over. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to debug?
Thanks,
Steve

Extract method for a new class
Dear list,
I am trying to write a package for simulating meioses in R. We defined a class 'haplotype' which contains the basic units of our simulation:
setClass("haplotype",representation(snp = "numeric",qtl = "list",
hID = "numeric",phID0 = "numeric",phID1 = "numeric"),

Ping win/FreeBSD probs
Okay,
I'm starting to get excited now because I think someone from the
Samba lists has pushed me in the right direction here. To recap:
I can't ping my win machine (192.168.1.2) from my FreeBSD box (192.168.1.3)
and vice versa. Both subnet masks are 255.255.255.0 and ipfw is not running.
I loaded the dos config program for the card on my BSD machine (by booting

IPFILTER_DEFAULT_BLOCK & No route to host
Hi,
After the option IPFILTER_DEFAULT_BLOCK is specified at kernel conf on FreeBSD 4.8 stable (cvsup'd
with tag RELENG_4_8), the machine cannot be ping'd by others on the same network.
In addition, the machine cannot ping itself.
ping localhost (or 127.0.0.1) -> no route to host
ping itself with its own ip address -> no route to host

cvsup with tag=. on src and upgrading (in general)
I'm just getting into regular use with cvsup (way over do on that one),
and I tried to specify a tag=. in the cvsup file. Here's the file:

# *default tag=RELENG_5_1_0_RELEASE
*default tag=.

packet loss with re(4)
With FreeBSD 6.3-RELEASE, I'm finding significant packet loss
(sometimes 85%).
If I insert an Intel nic (fxp), there is nil packet loss with similar
tests (ping -c 100).

Hardening production servers
Greetings,
Apologies if this is not the appropriate list, but my questions are about
best practices in maintaining production servers (so I believe I can justify
a post in -stable, short of a -release list :)
I maintain a modest installation of 6 FreeBSD servers. They're CVSUP'd to
RELENG_4_8 (I make buildworld on each individually) and I portupgrade ports
as necessary. In an attempt to

liveice problem
Hello everybody...
I figure this is not exactly an icecast question, but maybe
someone might be able to help.
Icecast runs nicely as far as I can see, and so does liveice,
apart from the fact I don't get any input signal fed into it. I
think it's due to the fact it expects the signal on line in by
default and the souncard only has a mic in. So I tried to use
the built in mixer mode,

World broken - pkgwrap.c missing
Hi
Just double cvsup'd RELENG_4 and buildworld exits in
usr.sbin/pkg_install/lib
pkgwrap.c is not present but is required in the Makefile.
Cheers

Horrible MeetMe performance
Hey folks,
Using FreeBSD 5.2.1 and I've got the current zaptel driver installed
from ports (0.8_1) and current ports asterisk (1.0.1). I've set
options HZ=1000 in my kernel config, recompiled and rebooted and as far
as I can tell, I've done everything right but when I try to use the
conference, the audio is very delayed, choppy and segmented -- totally
unusable.

Filesystem problem
Hi. I have been experencing some filesystem problems
for the last month or so. I was running 4.8-STABLE and
updated to 5.1-RELEASE-p2. While I was running 4.8
and I tried to run a command that required hard disk
activity, the process would 'hang' and I would no
longer be able to ssh or telnet in. I would get stuck
after typing in my login.
Running 5.1 is a different story. I did a low
