Nagios on CentOS 4.5
First off I am a linux / CentOS newbies so go easy on me.
Just curious if anyone out there is running Nagios on CentOS 4.5.
I have now installed it on a second server due to issue but the issues
have come back to haunt me.
The OS is running on an IBM NetVista. Every thing in both installs is
identical as are the problems.
Once I have Nagios up and monitoring every thing hangs. Even a terminal

IMAP hibernate and scalability in general
We've been using hibernate for about half a year with no ill effects. There
were various logged errors in earlier versions of dovecot, but even with
those, we never heard a reported customer-side error (almost always when
transitioning from hibernate back to regular imap; in the case of those
errors, presumably the mail client just reconnected silently).
For no particular reason besides

IMAP hibernate and scalability in general
Hello,
as some may remember, we're running very dense IMAP cluster here, in
excess of 50k IMAP sessions per node (current record holder is 68k, design
is for 200k+).
The first issue we ran into was that the dovecot master process (which is
single thread and thus a bottleneck) was approaching 100% CPU usage (aka
using a full core) when trying to spawn off new IMAP processes.
This was

Supsend/hibernate on Samsung NC10
Hi,
I cannot have suspend and hibernate working on a Samsung NC10
(netbook) running CentOS 5.4 i386.
When I try suspending/hibernating the screen becomes black (with a few
logs, like "shrinking memory" for hibernate) and then the computer
hangs and I have to force a shutdown with the power button.
This wiki page seems to say that it should work out of the box:

Power Fail Protection Update
Many thanks to those that responded to my original posting with
information about Network UPS Tools and commercial UPS products.
In our planning a path forward to implement UPS-based power fail
protection, we have come across what appears to be an issue with
the state of the CentOS 6 machines being UPS protected.? Most of
these machines are desktop/deskside machines that are likely to
be idle

Problems with new kernels
Hello,
I have been having problems using kernels since 2.6.9-34.0.2. After
updating to a new kernel, my system runs, I'm guessing, 6 - 8 hours fine,
then becomes unresponsive. For example, I installed the latest kernel the
other evening, reboot for the changes and by morning, the system appears to
be locked up. Typing 'yum update' takes about 10 minutes to execute.
Not sure whats

(OT) Computer seems to have died
Hello,
I have an old IBM Netvista. Lately, it would seem to go into sleep mode
but I have all that disabled. I would have to power off to wake it up.
Now I think its done. I can't even get to the CMOS/BIOS. The power light
is on but no beeps or anything spinning up.
I have two of these Netvistas and had put on away when I upgraded one of
the machines. I pulled the HD from it and installed

change network settings of VM depending on logged in user(s)?

Access is exclusively via RDP-sessions. I don?t know if I can get a VM to hibernate
when idle and to wake up when someone tries to connect; and delying logins as mmight
occur when the VM needs to wake up first is not an option. Besides, internet access
would not be

Windows 7 caching credentials breaks with hibernation
I am running Samba 3.5.5 on Solaris 10. I have one machine as a PDC,
one as a BDC.
If I logon to the domain from a Windows 7 Pro (64-bit) laptop,
hibernate the machine, unplug the network cable and wake the machine, I
can not unlock the screen. I will get the message "There are currently
no logon servers available to service the logon request." Other users
have reported this.

[OT] How to recover data from an IDE drive
Hello,
As some may recall, I suffered a hardware failure of a 10 yr old IBM
Netvista back in January. I was backing up my personal data, 'My Documents',
to my CentOS server but I apparently didn't get my emails.
It was a main board failure and I believe the data is still good on the hard
drive. Only problem, its an IDE drive and my server and new PC have SATA
drives.
Is it possible

Dovecot 1.0.rc7 ioloop-poll.c assertion failed after SIGHUP
Anybody else seen this one? We're running Dovecot 1.0.rc7 on a different
port on our live server (we're generally live with 1.0.beta5) and after
a HUP to reload the user database (in a passwd-file) this morning we got:-

CentOS 4.4-IBM Netvista Performace Problems, help needed.
I've got an odd situation that I need some advise on. I have two
computers that I am planning to use as a cluster. I initially started
with some left over Compaq Presairos with 667MHz CPUs. I loaded CentOS
4.3 and later updated to 4.4. Things ran normally, albeit slowly. I
had an opportunity to upgrade to a pair of IBM Netvistas with 2.26 GHz
CPUs, I did this by transferring the

Hibernating a laptop with the power button (Thinkpax X31) under CentOS 5.4
I am having a weird problem trying to get hibernation to work when I
press the power button on my Thinkpad X31 under CentOS 5.4.
I've modified /etc/acpi/events/power.conf to contain:
# ACPID config to power down machine if powerbutton is pressed, but only if
# no gnome-power-manager is running
event=button/power.*

optional package dependency
I have a package that can use rmpi, but works fine without it. None of
the automatic test code invokes rmpi functionality. (One test file
illustrates how to use it, but has quit() as its first command.)
What's the best way to handle this? In particular, what is the
appropriate form for upload to CRAN?
When I omitted rmpi from the DESCRITPION file R CMD check gave

Hibernation disabled when mailbox selected
After setting imap_hibernate_timeout to 60s, I could not find any
hibernated connections after a few hours. I tested hibernation and made
an observation: IDLE'd imap sessions only hibernate if they don't have
a mailbox SELECT'd, otherwise they never hibernate.
Is this the way it's supposed to work?

CentOS 5 LiveCD better than the real one?
Folks,
I am terribly puzzled by an issue reported as bug 2381 [http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=2381] ? definitely an upstream bug, as it does the same under X/OS 5 and StartCom 5.
Simply put: Hibernation fails with horrendous I/O errors after swsusp starts dumping to swap.
What bugs me is that hibernating from the CentOS 5 LiveCD *works*!!! (on the same hardware)
How could I investigate to
