make release headaches
Hi there,
When I do a make buildworld and try to do a make release it will fail
telling that it needs the CVSROOT directory.
I do cvsup /etc/cvs-supfile and receive nothing ;

*default base=/usr
*default prefix=/usr

exact difference between RELENG_4, RELENG_4_5 . . . RELENG_4_8
Read the documentation on the meaning of the various 4.X tags, and am
not sure what is meant by this:
"The release branch for FreeBSD-4.6 and FreeBSD-4.6.2, used only for
security advisories and other seriously critical fixes."
Similar descriptions are used for the other RELENG_4_X tags.
If I specify RELENG_4 will cvsup also include RELENG_4_3 to RELENG_4_8?
Sorry folks - I'm

Heads up: End of RELENG_4_8 support
At the end of March, the RELENG_4_8 (sometimes called 4.8-SECURITY)
branch will reach its designated End of Life and cease to be supported
by the FreeBSD Security Team.
Released in April 2003, FreeBSD 4.8 was the first release designated
for "extended" two-year security support instead of the normal one-year
support. Over this time, 27 security advisories have been issued which

bug: RELENG_4_8 rc.diskless1 typo
Folks,
Just got through debugging a problem with my attempts to netboot FreeBSD.
I've found a typo in the RELENG_4_8 etc/rc.diskless1
# $FreeBSD: src/etc/rc.diskless1,v 1.5.2.10 2002/12/23 17:39:06 dillon
I found it initially in a cvsup from earlier this week, and again in a
cvsup from today.
I tried RELENG_4, but the typo is fixed.

AC-97 problem between RELENG_4_8 and RELENG_4
Sorry if this is a known problem...
I've been tracking RELENG_4 on my Toshiba laptop for a while now; a
couple of months ago (not sure when) my sound stopped working. More
specifically, when it gets to the pcm probe, the boot hangs. I
dual-boot with WinXP and figured that somehow XP had hosed the
hardware, so I wrote it off.
Today, I made world with RELENG_4_8, and voila, my sound's

making 4.8-RELEASE-p7
Hello, freebsd-security.
I'm trying to build 4.8-RELEASE-p7 to distribute it trought my
clients. What am I doing:
#cd /usr/share/examples/cvsup
#cvsup standard-supfile (after I've done necessary changes)
#cd /usr/src
#make buildworld
Thus, I have /usr/obj "populated with the output of ``make
buildworld''" as it described in man 7 release.
Then, I have read
