How is having a refuse file slowing down CVSup down best? The fact is a
category does not appear often and for those

Tracking 4-stable rather than 4.8-stable
Hi,
I would like to follow 4-stable on my FreeBSD box, and i can't fetch
binaries from /stand/sysinstall. Can anyone help me?
Here is how i did:
1) I installed 4.8-RELEASE from CD,
2) I used cvsup to upgrade. For this i used the stable-supfile as shown
in the Handbook.
=> My OS version as shown by 'uname -a' and '/stand/sysinstall' is
"4.8-STABLE".

FreeBSD Patch question
I administer a remote server and want to apply some of the security patches. (I assume this is the best way to go since I can't go into single-user mode to use CVsup).
I have a couple of questions. First, I have installed one of the pgp ports to verify the patches. When I run it, I get this message:

FreeBSD port of Dovecot
Hello. I am trying to install Dovecot 0.99.10.9 on a
FreeBSD 4.10 system from the ports collection (latest via
cvsup). When running make, I get the message:
dovecot-0.99.10.9 Currently incompatible with
security/gnutls
This is in contrast to the Dovecot web page which states
that it does support GNUtls and OpenSSL.
I am not really interested in gnutls/openssl support at
this time. Is

wanting to pkg_add KDE/Gnome post-install
After installing a text-based development environment via /stand/sysinstall
(followed by CVSup, makeworld/kernel etc to 4-8-stable), I realize I want to
install KDE, too.
I initiated this with:
pkg_add -r kdebase
followed again by CVSup etc.
Apparently that wasn't enough. Am getting message "XFree86 setup utility.. not
installed" when trying to config xf86config (text-based) via

Hi there,
When I do a make buildworld and try to do a make release it will fail

please test: Secure ports tree updating
CVSup is slow, insecure, and a memory hog. However, until now
it's been the only option for keeping an up-to-date ports tree,
and (thanks to all of the recent work on vuxml and portaudit)
it has become quite obvious that keeping an up-to-date ports
tree is very important.
To provide a secure, lightweight, and fast alternative to CVSup,
I've written portsnap. As the name suggests, this

FreeBSD 9.1-RC1 Available...
The first release candidate of the 9.1-RELEASE release cycle is now
available on the FTP servers for amd64, i386, and powerpc64. The
MD5/SHA256 checksums are at the bottom of this message. The ISO images
and, for architectures that support it, the memory stick images are

Should I have to run make readme/index in ports after cvsup's?
/usr/ports/www/README.html went from some 200 lines to over 500 on a
`make readme' in that directory just now. I thought `cvsup -g -L 2
/etc/cvsup_ports' would update the README.html files too.
Should I be running `make readme' and/or `make index' (and/or anything
else) myself after cvsupdating ports?

I am new to FreeBSD and i wanted to ask something since systems security is
what interests me the most.
Does freebsd have an automated update system like redhat has ?
Also where can i find a list with patches for all local - remote holes and
bugs of FreeBSD 4.9 ?
Thank you very much for your time !

apache panics on a recent 4.8-STABLE
Yesterday I begin a couple of update to the latest 4.8-STABLE.
After that the two boxes continues to go in panics as soon as Apache (1.3
from the ports, also freshly recompiled, 2.0.x seems NOT to hang) starts.
I don't know if it is related to the other thread : "Kernel core dump in
recent 4.8-STABLE" but it is easily reproducible by cvsupping to a today
-STABLE and then running
