fontconfig-2.1.93 considered more harmful
There is an ongoing thread "fontconfig-2.1.92 considered harmful" on -CURRENT. Because I have not moved to -CURRENT, I post this to -STABLE. Since I upgraded to fontconfig-2.1.93 (on Apr 14) a lot of ports start to complain a lot of "Cannot fork: Resource temporarily unavailable" errors. What resource ? I inserted top into my ports build script to notice that a lot of

portupgrade issue
I am running 4.8-STABLE. I recently did a cvsup (repeatedly, most recently today). Ever since, portupgrade dies with the following messages: zircon# portupgrade -r pkgconfig /usr/local/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.6/pkgdb.rb:310:in `deorigin': failed to convert nil into String (PkgDB::DBError) from /usr/local/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.6/pkgdb.rb:903:in `tsort_build' from

freebsd samba3 package problem
Hi, I have a problem with managing samba package on FreeBSD. On the first run puppet will install the package fine. However, it will try to install it again on consecutive runs, even though the package is already present on the system. The package name is samba3 and that''s how it''s defined in the manifest, but when I run pkg_info it shows up as samba-3.0.23c_2,1. Is it

Fwd: [bug & patch] libstdc++ in linux_base-7.1_3
Hey guys, hope you don't mind this forward email, because I have been reading the 'flashpluginwrapper problem.' subject. The bug is in the linux_base, but nobody seem to check on this in the freebsd-ports. Looks like Brandon D. Valentine might needs to create a PR to get the better attention and keep the track. Cheers, Mezz >Summary: > >This began as a problem report

package introductions
I have been experimenting with different possibilities for an "introduction" page for my packages. That is, a good place to tell users about the most important things in a package, and where to start. Recently there was a discussion about this, and a suggestion to use <foo>-package.Rd, and also a function that generates a skeleton document. My problem with this suggestion is

Samba update FreeBSD
Perhaps a rather stupid question, but I have not found the complete correct way to upgrade a Samba installation on FreeBSD. I always use the ports to install the newer version, but after a while I discovered that the installation of the new version did not uninstall the previous version, so when you look at the installed packages (pkg_info) you can see all older versions, they can be uninstalled

What happened with portaudit?
Hello, One of my machines I got a report about 3 vulnerable packages (php4, ruby, openssl) in tomorrows security run output, but in today's security run output all of them disappeared, but nobody upgraded or removed the affected packages. I reinstalled portaudit, refreshd its database, but now it reports 0 affected pakages. The pkg_info command lists that three packages, so they are

Problems with crashing IBM X3630 M3/ZFS
Hello. I've got a quartet of IBM x3630 M3 with one that is frequently hard locking under heavy NFS load. I am running 9.0-RELEASE with all the patches from freebsd-update. My problem machine has 8 16 core clients, each doing IO intensive tasks connected to it via a Procurve and the onboard igb0 interface. Mostly network reads, typically 10MB read per MB written.
