Announce: KDE User Manager does smbpasswd.
Hi, I'd like to announce a beta patch to the KDE user manager (kuser) that integrates the management of the smbpasswd encrypted password file with the existing password file. The eventual target audience is administrators installing Samba based PDC's, or other applications where an encrypted smbpasswd file needs to be managed using graphical tools not too dissimilar

Installing FreeBSD-Stable and Upgrading to FreeBSD-Stable
I am a newbie trying to get the most current Stable version of FreeBSD running. I have been using CVS to update my system, but things don't work after an update. For example KDE 3.1 (from KDE 3.0) doesn't start using startkde. How I got Samba 2.2.8a to run on OpenBSD 3.2 i386
First of all, GREAT WORK! I now have my very own Windoze domain thanks to Samba :) Now, getting Samba to work fully on OpenBSD was harder than I'd think it would be. To get smbd to compile somewhat cleanly, I had to hack ./source/include/config.h thusly: remove USE_SETREUID, add USE_SETEUID. Then, I hacked sec_ctx.c like the attached diff shows, to get rid of some assert_gid panic when

Samba 4.2.2 and Solaris 10
Hi, Apologies if this has already been asked, but I'm wondering if anyone has managed to successfully compile 4.2.2 on Solaris 10 SPARC? I've tried multiple times with no success. Last error was: [3320/3826] Linking default/source4/heimdal_build/samba4kinit Undefined first referenced symbol in file libintl_gettext

[LLVMdev] Data Dependence Graph
Hi, Is it possible to generate a data dependence graph of llvm assembly file? How can I get the data flow information in X.ll file? Also, in .ll file I see everyline ends with something like this: <type> [#uses=3] What is the significance of this and is it used anyway by the compiler for data dependence analysis. I would be grateful for any help. Regards, Manvi

Slow vipw and fast pwd_mkdb
Hello, could somebody to comment PR bin/51148? It is suggestion how to pass a value of cache size to pwd_mkdb when we are doing vipw or such. It can give a greate speed-up when master.passwd is really big (and sometimes it is). Appropriate cache size can make process 10 to 100 or more times faster. I gave the results of measurements in that problem report. Thanks in advance! SY, Alex

Samba 2.2.12 Hardware Migration Policy Issue Win2K
Hello All, I had been successfully running Samba 2.2.8a on a FreeBSD 4.7 box for a couple years using roaming profiles. The box was functioning as PDC. The hardware was getting old; I needed to migrate to a new server. So, I built a FreeBSD 5.3-RELEASE box on some relatively modern hardware and installed Samba 2.2.12. I copied the master.passwd file to the new box, did the pwd_mkdb, also copied

Linux router performance
Hi, I wonder about the performance of a Linux box used as router (I guest I''m not the first :). Althought I know it mainly depends on the hardware, I''m trying to find some references on the topic or comparations with other routing solutions (FreeBSD box used as router, Cisco, etc). For example, http://facweb.cti.depaul.edu/jyu/Publications/Yu-Linux-TSM2004.pdf (althought is

Script to strip chroot passwd file
Hello BSDers, I'm running Apache in a chroot jail with suPHP. It needs an /etc/ passwd in the chroot so that suPHP can setuid to the owner of the PHP script, but there's nothing that requires the passwords to be valid. Does anyone have a script strips passwords out of master.passwd, sets all shells to nologin, etc and writes it to the chroot etc dir? I've looked around but

password file recovery question
I've got a possibly silly question and I believe I have an answer, but I want to see if what I think is the answer is feasible. I've had to rebuild a mail server from scratch, upgrading from 4.6-STABLE to 4.8-STABLE in the process. The other mail server had crashed, with disk errors so sever it wouldn't fsck clean. I was able to get it together enough to pull my configuration files

Mixed Autehtnication and password schemes
Hi Looking for some confirmation/direction on how to achieve the following. We have a requirement to support both SASL PLAIN and DIGEST-MD5 authentication (certification reasons). In addition to this we have an application (webmail) that utilises a master password pattern for access, as the contain web portal provides the necessary authentication. I have access to users passwords in PLAIN text
