NEC 1300A DVD-R writing
Hi,
so I just bought a NEC 1300A, primarily, because it allows me to write DVD+
and -RW. Using DVD-R discs (and currently no options to try other media, due
to shops being closed), I'm unable to write anything, using either the
dvd+rwtools port, or the dvdrtools.
I've exhausted all references to be found in google, which are in a language I
understand, so I'm hoping the list can

umass0 problems, with Sony USB Memory Stick
Hi,
I'm installing a laptop for a friend of mine, and while most things work, the
Sony memory stick does not.
With respect to the HEADS UP of August 7th, I've also re-enabled the 2 Sony
memory sticks quirks, in sys/cam/scsi/da_scsi.c.
The symptoms also apply to 4.8-RELEASE:
umass0: Sony USB Memory Stick Slot, rev 1.10/1.80, addr 2
...
umass0: CBI reset failed, TIMEOUT

cd0/1a device became invalid between Sep 2 and Oct 1
Hi,
just noticed that I can't mount anything anymore on the cd[01]a devices
anymore. The cd[01]c devices work correctly, as does the acd[01]a device.
These are an ATAPI dvd writer (cd0) and a dvd player(cd1) trough cam(4).
This applies to both dvd and cd media. Remaking the device through MAKEDEV has
no influence. Nothing reported by dmesg.

Problems Compiling after upgrading via cvsup
I couldn't compile any thing after upgrading 4.6.2 to 4.8 via cvsup
I also updated ports via cvsup
And nothing would compile, nothing, just error after error
I cd /usr/ports did a -"make clean"- (which takes over an hour on my
machine)
Now all my compile problems have gone away
I think I will cd to /usr/ports after doing anything with cvsup or any
install, just in case

Mozilla port.
I have a very strange problem with Mozilla since I updated it to the
latest stable. The font used on the menus are rendered extermly badly
such as lots of white spaces between the letters, large blocky font.
The font option does not seem to change any of those fonts which makes
me think it maybe something to do with X11. However, none of the other
things I use have any font issues...
Any idea

-STABLE broken?
Hi. My bad, but I have not been tracking the -stable
list and I just updated -stable on a production
machine.
It seemed to work just wonderful, as normal, for about
10 minutes then it started to deny connections and
when you run commands, it would just hang. I have
done a reboot and fsck everything. It is up now but
things are still strange. Here's the output. I just
updated -stable at

security = ADS with libkrb53.
I've been trying to get samba to integrate with a Win2000 ADS, with
very limited success.. but from recent postings I think I have found
my problem. I am only using libkrb 1.2.4. I know I need 1.3.3, but
don't particularly want to compile from source. I'm running a Debian
Stable machine, so was wondering if anyone knows of where I can get a
backport to woody of the newest Kerberos

set the bahavior that R deal with missing values?
Dear Rusers,
The default behavior in R when performing a regression model with missing
values is to exclude any case that contains a
missing value? How could i set the bahavior that R deal with missing values?
e.g.:
exclude cases listwise
exclude cases pairwise
replace with mean
Thanks very much!

MySQL patch + Debian
Hi folks.
Sorry to post here about a patch that hasn't been officially integrated
into Dovecot, however I am trying to get it going and seem to have hit
a dead end.
I downloaded the Debianised source for Dovecot (0.99.10-9) from sarge:
> wedge:/usr/local/src# apt-get -t testing source dovecot
then applied the latest MySQL patch that I could find on the list:

Kerberos4 / AFS library issues
Could people who have been having issues with Portable OpenSSH and
Kerberos 4 please try the following patch. You will need to run
"autoreconf" (i.e you will need autoconf installed) and then run
./configure again.

PHP dependencies
Hi,
recently there was an introduction of lang/php4/bsd.php.mk. It's quite nice to
have it all centralized, but the old behavior, depended on the apache library
being available, for packages like phpMyAdmin.
This worked quite nicely, if you use your own php installation and not the
ports version, installed at a different place.
Now however, there's a need for

dvd+rw-format -force problem
Hi,
I haven't felt the need to fully blank a DVD+RW for a while untill today. In
between the last time and now, I both did a cvsup of STABLE and the port of
sysutils/dvd+rw-tools was upgraded. Hence - I'm not sure which could be
contributed to the cause.
The problem is the following:
When issuing:
dvd+rw-format -force /dev/cd0c
it fails, with 'unable to unmount' error.

Undocumented bahavior of as.integer() (PR#2430)
as.integer() truncates doubles toward zero, as Splus does (at least v. 6.1
under Windows does). Thus:

file.copy(from=Directory, to=File) oddity
When I mistakenly use file.copy() with a directory for the 'from' argument
and a non-directory for the 'to' and overwrite=TRUE, file.copy returns
FALSE, meaning it could not do the copying. However, it also replaces the
'to' file with a zero-length file.
dir.create( fromDir <- tempfile() )
cat(file = toFile <- tempfile(), "existing file\n")
