GELI partition mount on boot fails after 7.0 -> 7.1-PRERELEASE upgrade
I was using a GELI partition for /usr/home on 7.0, so it attaches and mounts
on boot. The problem is it stopped working after the system was upgraded to
RELENG_7/7.1-PRERELEASE. Here's how it goes:
I have the following /etc/fstab:
/dev/ad0s1b none swap sw 0 0
/dev/ad0s1a / ufs rw 1 1
/dev/ad0s1d

booting FreeBSD DomU
Hi!
May anyone assist me with booting FreeBSD DomU (under Debian Dom0). Now
I''m using the kernel-current, downloaded from Kip Macy site at
http://www.fsmware.com/xenofreebsd/7.0/download/
The problem is that I can''t specify _any_ root, the kernel can recognize:
Mount point / had 1 dangling refs

geli or gbde encryption of slices
Hello,
I was playing around with geli an gbde after last EuroBSDCon.
I liked the idea of encrypting my data which resides in /home/$user.
Since this is a "single" user laptop i intended to encrypt the
whole /home partition. Well no problems with that. But i wanted
the lockfile or keyfile on a seperate usb disc. Which would be
mounted or used during boot of the system. I also used

Postfix and Dovecot SASL - wiki update
I wanted to mention I updated the Postfix and Dovecot SASL wiki entry yesterday.
http://wiki2.dovecot.org/HowTo/PostfixAndDovecotSASL
The entry:
submission inet n - - - - smtpd
was incorrect. It should be:
submission inet n - n - - smtpd
By specifying n for chroot, it ensures that DNS lookups can occur. Otherwise, if you are using reject_unknown_recipient_domain
the following error will

Powering off the big stuff first
Hello,
I had an idea last week: why shut everything off (in my basement) when the power goes off (and run time goes below X minutes)?
My idea: shutdown the big stuff first (two servers) leaving the little stuff (switches, wireless, gateway) running for a while longer. I might get another 30 minutes of internet that way. Let me watch a bit more streaming?.
I?m convinced that idea is achievable

Hard Drive size not correctly being Detected on Dell 8100
Hello,
I didn't recieve a response on freebsd-mobile, so I'm trying here.
I'm trying to install FreeBSD 4.7-RELEASE or 5.0-RELEASE onto my Dell
Inspirion 8100. I'mjust doing a Standard installation and when FDisk loads I
get:
Disk name: ad0
DISK Geometry: 88 cyls/255 heads/63 sectors = 1413720 sectors (690MB)
So I go and manually change the drive geometry with the G option and

Shutdown the servers first, keep the network running
I have an idea for my shutdown process at home. My goal: maximize the network run-time. At present, the UPS has a run-time of about 57 minutes.
This is my idea:
* shutdown the servers after 15 minutes of downtime (for me, that's when battery.runtime hits 40)
* leave the network gear (switches, firewall, wifi) running so I can continue with Internet access
Optionally:
* when we get down to

Here is some free coincidental trivia.
I was a sysadmin for the server behind batterywholesale.com for about 10 years. It was part time work. The couple behind the company have since sold the business and retired. I'm still

zpool destroy causes panic
I'm trying to destroy a zfs array which I recently created. It contains
nothing of value.
# zpool status
pool: storage
state: ONLINE
status: One or more devices could not be used because the label is
missing or
invalid. Sufficient replicas exist for the pool to continue
functioning in a degraded state.
action: Replace the device using 'zpool replace'.

doveadm: Fatal: open(/dev/tty)
I received this message today, and remembered, you can't do that...
$ doveadm pw -s SHA512-CRYPT
Enter new password: doveadm(dan): Fatal: open(/dev/tty) failed: No such
file or directory
</pre>
It seems if you have no tty, you can't create a password. Surely there
is a better way to do this?
Looking at the code, it's trying to open the tty and turn off echo.

Powering off the big stuff first
Interesting. Something similar came up in late May. Look for "[Nut-upsuser] Synthesize low batt (LB) fron SNMP UPS which does not support this?? Is there an archive of this list? I an?t find it. I?d been trying to figure out how to do that itself, but then found some code in drivers/dstate.c that looked like it would work, but someone else replied that they?d tried it and it didn?t work.
But

Hello,
I'm using samba416-4.16.11 on FreeBSD 14.1 (on ZFS, in a jail, with quotas on those filesystems, etc)
I'm seeing these entries in my logs. Is this something which needs action? If not, I'll start ignoring them.
