msdosfs bug?
Hello.
After running this program with msdosfs mounted in /mnt, I got a
file with some garbage in skipped space. Is it a bug in my local
installation/hardware or real kernel bug?

"sleeping without queue" ?
Hello!
My attempt to build openoffice.org-3 seems to be hanging. Pressing
Ctrl-T produces:
load: 0.11 cmd: tcsh 79759 [sleeping without queue] 0.00u 0.00s 0% 0k
(tcsh is used by OOo's build-script). What is this "sleeping without
queue" state, and why is process in it for so long?
This is an 4-CPU amd64 system with 4Gb of RAM. Only 16% of the swap is

GELI partition mount on boot fails after 7.0 -> 7.1-PRERELEASE upgrade
I was using a GELI partition for /usr/home on 7.0, so it attaches and mounts
on boot. The problem is it stopped working after the system was upgraded to
RELENG_7/7.1-PRERELEASE. Here's how it goes:
I have the following /etc/fstab:
/dev/ad0s1b none swap sw 0 0
/dev/ad0s1a / ufs rw 1 1
/dev/ad0s1d

Samba access of FAT32 mounted file system on FreeBSD
Hi,
Firstly background -
FreeNAS 0.7.2 (FreeBSD 7.3-RELEASE-p1)
Samba 3.5.3
1TB disk, 500GB FAT32 (/dev/da1s1) + 500GB NTFS (/dev/da1s4)
Just to clear it up, I'm using FAT32 and NTFS because this is actually a
media center box that functions as an external HDD when plugged into USB.
I'm using it as a storage device because its quite large a disk, but may
from time to time use it as a

FreeBSD 9.0 - GPT boot problems?
Hi,
I just installed FreeBSD 9.0-release / amd64 on a new machine (Acer Aspire X1470).
I installed from a usb memory stick (the default amd64 image), which I booted by pressing "F12" and selecting it from the boot menu on the machine.
I installed on a SSD (which replaced the hard drive originally in the machine), using the default scheme for 9.0 (GPT).
The installation was painless (many

Encrypted volume - how?
Hi all,
I'm looking for a way to recreate the functionality of PGP Disk (under
Win32). Basically, create an encrypted file, which contains a filesystem
which can then be mounted in any mount point.
I know I can use GELI in FreeBSD 6 - as I understand, it performs the
encryption at the partition level (the whole partition is encrypted).
I'd like to be able to simply unmount my

4.2 install w/250GB raid arrays won't boot
hi!
raid 1 arrays: I already have 2 systems running this same raid1 config.
1 sys has 2 120 gb
1 sys has 1 120gb and 1 200gb but matching the raid partitions
this system here that is giving me fits right now has 1 250gb and 1
200gb. I tried it w/a new 250 gb for the 2nd drive but the same
results. Will not boot.
in druid, when I am config. the raid arrays, I always create the

wich filesystem to store > 250E6 small files in same or hashed dire
Hi
I need to store about 250.000.000 files. Files are less than 4k.
On a ext4 (fedora 14) the system crawl at 10.000.000 in the same directory.
I tried to create hash directories, two level of 4096 dir = 16.000.000
but I had to stop the script to create these dir after hours
and "rm -rf" would have taken days ! mkfs was my friend
I tried two levels, first of 4096 dir, second of 64

FreeBSD 4.9-PRE+ nvidia
Hello all.
I have the same problem as described by Dmitry a day ago in a topic similar.
I am able to use x11 with base driver "nv" but when I load "nvidia" driver,
startx
simply crash my machine and reboot after 5 seconds. I have a similar log
file as reported by Dmitry even using startx+logverbose option. XF86Config
file is similar, except it is not the same nvidia video

5.1-R-p2 crashes on SMP with AMI RAID and Intel 1000/Pro
Dear Sirs.
It seems to me a never ending story. We run a box with a TYAN Thunder
2500 Dual SMP mainboard, 2GB ECC Tyan certified memory, AMI Enterprise
1600 RAID adapter and additional Intel 1000/Pro server type (64 bit)
GBit LAN NIC. With FreeBSD 4.8 this was stable, but to achive this
state was really hard! It is a story similar to that what happend when
we changed towards FreeBSD

What's the thing? FreeBSD Security AdvisoryFreeBSD-SA-03:08.realpath (fwd)
Hello there.
I tried make update using the following stable-supfile:
*default base=/usr
*default prefix=/usr
*default release=cvs tag=RELENG_4
*default delete use-rel-suffix
and my two nearest Russian CVS mirrors showed no changes in realpath.
Heck, I downloaded the patch and said in /usr/src:
# patch < realpath.patch
so it was rejected. Then I looked into realpath.c's revision and

mount_ext2fs in 7-STABLE?
Hi,
I noticed that mount_ext2 isn't "connected" to the normal "buildworld"
but sys/*/ext2fs seems to.
Building and using it from recent RELENG_7 sources works for me (having
ext2fs loaded as module in GENERIC). I mounted an ext3 rw, edited
grub's menu.lst, wrote and umounted without any problems.
It seems recent bugs got pathched in January

FREEBSD 7.1-STABLE crashes when trying to mount USB device of solaris UFS filesystem
Hi everybody,
today I met the following problems on my freebsd box. I had a USB stick
of opensolaris bootable USB image and tried to mount it on my fbsd box.
The first time, when I tried to mount the usb device, my system freezed
and then rebooted giving me one core in my dumpdev. When I tried to redo
the mounting, the kernel informed me that the filesystem needed to be
fsck'd before

[FreeBSD] Fix for ServerWorks HT1000 in upcoming 7.1?
Hi,
I have a server (Dell PowerEdge SC1435, ServerWorks HT1000) on which
I'd like to try installing FreeBSD. I've already failed to make 7.0
work on this box and was wondering if you have information about the
behavior of the upcoming 7.1 on this hardware.
I've been following the "HT1000 chipset errata saga" thread, and the
commits by sos@ to CVS (around Jan 2008), but have
