cvsup with tag=. on src and upgrading (in general)
I'm just getting into regular use with cvsup (way over do on that one), and I tried to specify a tag=. in the cvsup file. Here's the file: # This file specifies src files are to be uploaded. *default host=cvsup2.FreeBSD.org # *default tag=RELENG_5_1_0_RELEASE *default tag=. *default prefix=/usr *default release=cvs delete use-rel-suffix compress *default base=/usr/local/etc/cvsup

Various FreeBSD bits...
I just drudged through a bit of the archives and see a FreeBSD bits floating in there that are of some value, but aren''t on the wiki. I posted a few bits on the wiki regarding some FreeBSD cobbling that I''ve done recently and hope that folk find it of use (and start posting their useful bits there as well). http://reductivelabs.com/trac/puppet/wiki/PuppetFreeBSD The

How often should an encrypted session be rekeyed?
Using OpenSSL, is there a preferred/recommended rate of rekeying an encrypted stream of data? Does OpenSSL handle this for developers behind the scenes? Does it even need to be rekeyed? HPET broken on Dell 1950's?
I have an old Dell 1950 that I've rescued from Linux and tossed a copy of -STABLE on it, but am seeing a constant 0.5 load average. With the system completely idle, and kern.eventtimer.timer=LACPI, the load drops to the expected value of zero. This feels like it should be an FAQ, but short of noting that the load is non-zero, is there a programatic way to determine if the event timer is

Exported resources & exec ?
Hi, I''m sorry if that''s a FAQ, I also know exported resources are a still experimental. So my problem might well be a design limitation of how exported resources are working. My issue: I''m trying to export a file resource that is created by an exec block. The file is exported fine and collected fine but it is always empty on the other host. The puppet snippet: class

Re: Problems with ext3 fs
Hi, I have read this thread and want to say that I have expirienced the same problem. Once, when I was loged in, one of my filesystems ( root filesystem :( ) became read-only with the same symptoms. But results was more tragic. Almost in each directory avg. 10% of files had incorrect attributes, owner, links, etc. But filenames was correct. So, I was obliged to re-create root filesystem :(

Anyone noticed slow rendering performance with formhelpers?
It seems like the form helpers, such as "link_to" and "check_box" really slows down rendering when you have hundreds of rows. Has anyone else noticed this?? Is there a way to go around it apart from typing the raw html? -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Error when installing Star Wars: The Phantom Menace
I am running Ubuntu 11.04 with wine 1.3.20. I am trying to install the Phantom Menace. The menu pops up to install, and takes me to the setup. When the setup loads, an error pops up: Severe: get prof failed! The setup continues like normal, but then when actually installing the files, another error pops up: Severe: file set execute failed. The progress bar jumps straight to 100%, then about 8

Problems with ext3 fs
Hi, Apologies, this is going to be quite long - I'm going to provide as much info as possible. I'm running a system with ext3 fs on software RAID. The RAID set-up is as shown below: jlm@nijinsky:~$ cat /proc/mdstat Personalities : [linear] [raid0] [raid1] [raid5] read_ahead 1024 sectors md0 : active raid1 hdc1[1] hda1[0] 96256 blocks [2/2] [UU] md5 : active raid1 hdk1[1] hde1[0]

Crashed filesystem - directory recovery
Hello folks, I had an ext3 filesystem mounted as the root of a Linux MOO server. Unfortunately, the filesystem was on one of the infamous DTLA-3070xx drives - and the drive decided to fail at the worst moment it possibly could, trashing the filesystem fairly well. The situation is as follows: I used dd_rescue to create an image of what is left of the filesystem, but I ended up with some 65MB

January Ruby events in the SF Bay Area
Bosco So has located a promising new venue for the SF Ruby Meetup: There is WiFi access to the Internet as well as a large plasma TV/monitor for presentations. In addition to offering caffeine in various forms, they have sandwiches and desserts. Lastly, there are lots of dining opportunities nearby for apres-event chowing. -- http://ruby.meetup.com/6/events/4815812 Meanwhile,

apci issue
Hi, Updated to current bk today, and my machine stopped booting ... I''ve tracked it down to the apic changes from end of last week. cset 1.1307 boots fine, 1.1308 doesn''t. Wine 20030318, glibc 2.3.2, RH (not phoebe)
Wine was fine before upgrading glibc to 2.3.2 on RH 8. Since that time, I get $wine --version wine: lstat /tmp/.wine-<user>/server-9-ff9be/socket : No such file or directory This happens no matter what user I run wine as. This also happens using the LD_ASSUME_KERNEL work around. The only thing that changed between a working wine, and a non-working wine was glibc, so I'm positive

GRED queuing discipline with grio
Hi, In the GRED queueing discipline of linux traffic control, we can define around 16 Virtual Queues with different RED parameters for each one of these. As far as I think, while applying RED on each of the virtual queues, with the grio option set, quave(the average queue length) of a virtual queue with priority= n is given by the sum of the virtual queues with priority greater than n ... I have

Queuing Ajax Requests
Hi, It''s very obvious that for something like Autocomplete if we send a request to the server on every key stroke it''s going to be an overkill. So, I wanted to check if scriptaculous/prototype has some queuing mechanism for remote calls? Thanks, Mandy.

Queuing in backgroundrb, is it possible?
Hey all, I''ve been playing with backgroundrb for a while but I''ve never had to worry about this particular scenario. We have a process that can take a while (<30secs) to return results so it needs to be moved off of the standard rails stack and into backgroundrb land (easy, and essentially done). However, we can''t tolerate the possibility that any more than 5
