wanting to pkg_add KDE/Gnome post-install
After installing a text-based development environment via /stand/sysinstall
(followed by CVSup, makeworld/kernel etc to 4-8-stable), I realize I want to
install KDE, too.
I initiated this with:
pkg_add -r kdebase
followed again by CVSup etc.
Apparently that wasn't enough. Am getting message "XFree86 setup utility.. not
installed" when trying to config xf86config (text-based) via

Upgrade to 4.8 STABLE - Root mount failed: 6
I am trying to upgrade my system from 4.7RELEASE to 4.8STABLE. I have
followed the instructions from the manual:
http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/makeworld.html
Right now, I am on step 21.4.8 Reboot into Single User Mode. I have compiled
my new kernel, and I was trying to reboot into single user mode to test the
new kernel. When I do this, I get the following error

kde KUser - expires accounts
I used KUser to add a user to my system and after saving the changes I
made KUser expired all user accounts except the newly created one.
This meant I could only login as that new user and I could get root
access.
To fix this I rebooted the computer.
When it gives you 10 seconds [or hit enter] I pressed any key but enter to
get a prompt like this:
ok
Then at the prompt I booted into single

Updating from 4.8 release to 4.8 stable
Hello,
I am very new to FreeBSD and just installed 4.8 release. I want to upgrade this to stable. I have printed some of the pages out for makeworld and CVSUP, I am wondering what the best method for doing the updates are, downloading the individual packages and installing or using the CVSUP to do this? Currently I used mostly Red Hat Linux but have wanted to give this a try for some time

Media formats
Is CentOS held to the same philosophy as Fedora by NOT including apps
to play formats such mp3 etc.
If this is the case, how easy is it (looking for a how-to url) to add
things such as gstream-bad to a Cent install.

Cent LDAP server
Forgive my ignorance on this topic - I would like to build an LDAP
server at our shop. We a native 2k3 domain and would like this Cent LDAP
server to pull in all the info from AD. Then periodically, have the Cent
server sync with new addition/subtractions of AD.
Is there a How-To out there somewhere that someone can point me to?

Homedir access rights and running KDE
Hello,
I use pam_winbind for users authentification and pam_mount for mounting homedirs stored on w2k3 fiel server.
I still have two more problems to solve:
1. I?m not able to set proper access rights on homedir. I want to set
them to 700 but after mounting the homedir access rights are set to 777.
I used to use pam_mkhomedir umask=0077 attribute to set proper rights,
but this have no effect

view remote desktop
I know with vnc you can access virtual desktops, but is there a way to
view the current desktop on a kde session? I tried changing the
.vnc/xstartup and added the startkde & at the end to get the gui
working, but can only get virtual desktops to show. or if there is a
different software to use that someone else might know about.
Using CentOS 3.4

Missing and number of days
Hi all,
Assume that I have a data set (“xcv”) with several variables and some of
the variables have a missing observation represented by -9 as shown below.
I want to exclude these observations from the analysis ( as a NA). Is
there a command that I can do it for the entire data set rather than one by
one for each variable ( tmp <- xcv[xcv$v1 != -9, ])
