Hi Ralph,
In reviewing the wiki editing guidelines, I see that I'm supposed to
setup a Personal Homepage, but I'm not allowed to edit that page.

procfs + chmod = no go
Hello,
I was wondering if it was possible to limit user access on /proc
without having to use securelevels.
For some reason chmod 751 /proc (or 750) does nothing.
Is this possible on FreeBSD 4.9 ? Can't find anything about it in the
manual pages. Just want to prevent lusers from running:
for file in /proc/*/cmdline; do cat $file; echo; done

Wiki Access Request for Java How To's
Hello,
My name is Sean Gilligan (wikiname: SeanGilligan) and I'd like to
contribute to the CentOS wiki.
Initially I'd like to do some documentation for Java (OpenJDK) on CentOS
5.3. I've used Fedora for years, but am getting tired of the
obsolescence that keeps happening. I'm also very excited about having
an integrated Java that I can use for actual server deployments. I

Proposal: Java HowTo Section
In "Wiki Access Request for Java How To's" I mentioned that I wanted to
create a Java HowTo section on the wiki. I'd like to provide a more
detailed proposal for adding more Java documentation.
Summary of Current Java HowTo

Currently there is a single Java How To in the "Misc" section, called

4GB limit with netstat
Hi,
Was wondering if there are any plans to update either the kernel
structures and/or netstat to show more than 4GB of traffic stats.
For example, on a 4.8-STABLE machine:
$ netstat -bI sis0
Name Mtu Network Address Ipkts Ierrs Ibytes ...
sis0 1500 <Link#2> <mac-addr-hidden> 8789598 0 4103727771 ...

This shows that

NOSPAM on personal home pages not working as expected
I just setup a personal home page and the template had a section that I
edited to look like this:
[[MailTo(sean AT SPAMFREE msgilligan DOT com)]]
I assumed it would use JavaScript to protect my e-mail address, but when
I view source on the page it's right there:

CentOS 5.3 - OpenJDK vs. Sun JDK
What have people's experiences with CentOS 5.3 and OpenJDK for server
apps (e.g. Tomcat) been so far? Has anyone found they've had to install
the Sun JDK? If so, what was broken?
Thanks,
Sean

I am trying to create a custom live cd but I am
having some problems with isolinux.
A rough sketch of my process :
1) bootstrapped a small rpm based system in /target
2) dd if=/dev/zero of=images/initrd.img bs=1k count=262144
3) /sbin/mke2fs -F -v -m0 images/initrd.img
4) mount -o loop images/initrd.img ./initrd_tmp
5) cp -av /target/* ./initrd_tmp
6) umount
7) gzip -9 <

linux-next tomorrow. The first 7 patches are scheduled for mainline
as they were merged + tested without any hiccups. These last few patches
I'll wait and see. If nothing blows up on linux-next perhaps I'll
include them to Linux for mainline during the next merge

rc.d/sysctl fails to parse sysctl.conf
Hello,
I tried to get my sound working, and long story short: rc.d/sysctl parses
sysctl.conf wrongly if there are sysctls of the form
mib=val1=val2
which is what you need for sound. For reference I needed/wanted
dev.hdaa.4.nid25_config=as=1,seq=15
dev.hdaa.4.nid31_config=as=1
I believe the following patch would address the incorrect parsing:

net.ipv4 TCP/IP Optimizations = sysctl.conf?
If I execute these via command line, will they persist after a reboot?
Or, should I be putting these into a file like /etc/sysctl.conf?

It apperas the the default /etc/sysctl.conf coming with the distribution
