How do I create a clean build environment?
I get interesting results on this one. If I run rpm -q -a | grep i386
as root, I get this:
nspluginwrapper-i386-0.9.91.1-1
If I run as my local non-root user, I get this:
libgcc-3.4.6-3.i386
libselinux-1.19.1-7.2.i386

Re: Recommendations for a “real RAID" 1 card on Centos box
This is getting OT and you are going to end up spending more on redundancy then if you just called Dell and ordered another computer.

need help with MSVC

Yep. MSVC is borked. Its missing most of the new maths functions that
were introduced in the C99 standard.
The way I solved this problem for libsndfile was to stop using MSVC,
(allowing it to break for that compiler) and use MinGW. I also
release a pre-compiled win32 binary so

Nasty Bug (BIOS?).
At first I thought, I was dealing with the known EBIOS/CBIOS-problem.
The symptom was exactly the same (hangs at ...EBIOS). As 3.10-pre8 and
3.10-pre9, in contrary what was mentioned in the ML, did not bring any
improvement, I looked deeper into what could be my specific problem.
I found out that the program just halted at 'cmp [esi],edx' (line 658;
ldlinux.asm 3.10-pre9)! By replacing

Motherboard and processor recommendations
I agree, use either SCSI with hardware raid with a battery backed cache
or use sata/ide with linux software raid. Linux raid SCSI also works
well, but if you go for the scsi drives might as well get the controller
too.
The "firmware" raid on the cheap sata/ide cards have left me stranded
several times, I have had experiences were both an HP and Promise IDE
raid controller have SCRAMBLED

Oplocks Usage Recommendations Whitepaper (with attachment)
Here is Oplocks Usage Recommendations Whitepaper for Samba on HP-UX
(originally was written for CIFS/9000 Server on HP-UX).
Note that the intended audience is/are HP-UX customers who have
questions
and concerns about when to configure oplocks. This is intended as a
rudimentry guide to help avoid the most obvious oplock pitfalls.
Hopefully the plain text alignments hold up well for most editors.

multi user setup for Windows software
I would like to set up wine for a terminal server machine. I.e. there
are several users logged on this machine and running applications
at the same time.
Most of them are even running the same applications (MS Word and
a custom windows software that hosts IE6 and several ActiveX controls).
AFAIK I have to install IE6 and Word for every user. If there's an
update to one of the used

have. Please do the following at the command window. To get to the

low end file server with h/w RAID - recommendations
DO NOT buy the newer HPE DL20 gen9 or ML10 gen9 servers then (especially if using CentOS 6.x)
I don't use hardware raid (mdadm for the win!) so cannot speak to that.
DL20, bought it on a stock 'B' sale. Great price. Works well on Windows. HPE doesn't sell hard drive trays, etc. You pretty much have to buy their equipment.
You CAN get 3rd party parts (drive trays, etc.) but will
