Some are very good at taking the timings of VESA standards. But some support some eccentric Windows timings that are _not_ the exact same as VESA. Or maybe you have configured your monitor for

Option to limiting sshd "banner" to interactive/password-auth/tty (or something along those lines) sessions
Hi. It would be of utmost utility if there were a way to cause the sshd "banner" configuration setting to only print the banner in certain circumstances. What I'm actually after is avoiding printing out the banner for non-interactive sessions, so that if I run "ssh somehost ls" I don't get the login banner, but if I just type "ssh somehost" I do (at

Problem with large numbers of bpf devices
A STABLE (not updated since 12/13/02) system shows very strange behavior for devices with a minor mode greater than 256. tcpdump does not work reliably and ls is, uh, "strange", using hex for the minor mode. crw------- 1 root wheel 23, 252 Apr 11 14:29 bpf252 crw------- 1 root wheel 23, 253 Apr 11 14:29 bpf253 crw------- 1 root wheel 23, 254 Apr 11 14:29 bpf254

I am having problem with getting the src from the cvs server for a specific date I read the the man page and it said the date format is : "date=[cc]yy.mm.dd.hh.mm.ss This specifies a date that should be used to select the revi- sions that are checked out from the CVS repository. 4.4 on Dell D620: widescreenresolution?
Hi, Did anyone manage to get 4.4 working on a Dell D620 laptop? The thing has a 1440x900 LCD screen, but I don't get X the work with that resolution. (lspci: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)) Google suggested to use '915resolution', which I installed (915resolution-0.5.2-1.el4.rf), but that doesn't help. system-config-display wrongly sets up Viewsonic VG730m monitor
I originally set up this monitor with an analogue lead. Everything seemed fine, so I didn't check xorg.conf at all. Then I bought a digital lead, and since then the monitor blinks. Running system-config-display identifies it as a 1280 x 1084 CRT monitor. It is an LCD monitor. That model is not on the drop-down list, so assuming that a specific driver wasn't available for it, I

Server overloaded? Or is it a bug?
Hi all! I need your help. My server doesn't respond any more. Everything crashed. How can I find out if this is a bug or it is simply overloaded? I don't have much running, just KDE with about 10 programs on each of the 16 desktops, and a few background processes. This seems much, but I often have much more stuff running, and it is not even slow. It does respond when I ping it, but

FreeBSD 4.9-PRE+ nvidia
Hello all. I have the same problem as described by Dmitry a day ago in a topic similar. I am able to use x11 with base driver "nv" but when I load "nvidia" driver, startx simply crash my machine and reboot after 5 seconds. I have a similar log file as reported by Dmitry even using startx+logverbose option. XF86Config file is similar, except it is not the same nvidia video

Perl version in -STABLE
[bcc: to re@] Considering the amount of changes between 4.x and 5.x, and the performance issues of the latter, I think I can safely predict that RELENG_4 will be around for a long time after the RELENG_5 branch. While I understand that some will resist making RELENG_4 any more useful than it currently is (to encourage users to move to 5.x), I think there is one issue that should be addressed: the

Size of x11 device
I've fairly recently changed my Linux desktop, and now use a XFree86 server. The default X11() window is rather small: it is supposed to be 7" x 7". However, 1) It is actually just over 5" x 5" and 2) 7" x 7" would be rather small on a 21" screen. The reason for 1) is that DisplayWidthMM give 542mm, when it is really close to 400mm (and the correct

Switch to Nvidia from ATI
I am having some issues (e.g. System lock ups) with my ATI 9250 Video card. I am thinging about replacing it with either a Nvidia FX5200, FX5500, or a FX5600 card. Is anyone using one of these cards on Centos 4.1 with the stock (XORG) nv driver? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

New PAM code landing (at last)
Hello all, The long-mooted PAM merge from FreeBSD is starting _now_. This replaces the PAM password auth kludge that we have used until now with a discrete challenge-response module. This module is invoked via keyboard-interactive for protocol 2 or TIS auth for protocol 1. Warning: this is a large change and will probably break things. It has only been tested with basic password auth modules and

Problem with widescreen display
I have a dual boot CentOS 5.2 / FC4 machine, and recently I have bought a new widescreen tft monitor. I used to use a plain 4:3 crt, and after plugging the 16:9 tft naturally X needed reconfiguring. This was easy in FC4, and seemed as easy in CentOS, but with a wrong result. Basically, what I did was to run system-config-display to reconfigure for the new monitor and resolution. All goes

vmware tools in CentOS5 guest?
Does anyone have vmware-tools from the recent server 1.03 release running in a CentOS5 guest VM? vmware-config-tools.pl goes through the motions except for building the vmhgfs module (which it says is only needed for mapping the host file system) but then X won't start up with the new configuration. -- Les Mikesell lesmikesell at gmail.com

"nv" driver lock up where new version
I have had my "nv" driver lock up a number of times. I downloaded the "nvidia" drivers and they did not work at 1920x1080 resolution. I am looking for an updated driver for just "nv". I found some once for a different driver that you just update commonXXX and yourdriverXXX not the whole X recompile. Where can I find those drivers? THanks, Jerry --------------

sshd refusing connections problem
We have been having a problem with sshd on our shell server. This has been happening since March 4, 2003 or before IIRC. Initially I thought the next OS upgrade, to 4.8 would fix this. I am accustomed to haveing little things go away in a month or two. I think we jumped to 4.7-STABLE on Feb 28, 2003. Some exploit fix wasn't being MFSd to RELENG_4_7 fast enough for my nerves (cvsd?). It
