4.8-STABLE Kernel Panic with dummynet options.
I first met this problem when our (60 students) internetgateway refused to boot its new kernel, it was a 4.7-RELEASE. Then i loaded the old kernel and went home to check if my 4.8-STABLE does likewise. And the answer was yes! Both kernels were GENERIC + these options taken from the dummynet man pages: options DUMMYNET options NMBCLUSTERS options HZ When i boot the machine

I have created this setup, with a HTB classes in a HTB class in a HTB class. (3 levels). ROOT IMQ1 QDISC 1:0 | HTB 1:1 (HTB AT LINE UPPER LIMIT) |

Equal bandwidth configuration among host with dummynet
Hi all, First of all, I have spent a lot of time reading up on it. Anyway, I live in a shared accomodation with 2 roommates and a landlord and we share a cable internet connection. It is 2Mbit/400Kbit connection. Sometimes when one of us is downloading a song through Kazaa or a new Linux or FreeBSD iso, the bandwidth gets hogged and other users can't get through. I was trying to configure

4.8-Stable DummyNet
Hi. We just opened a gaming center and have chosen to run a FreeBsd box for our firewall. IPFW is configured at it's very basic running natd through rl0 and allowing any to any connections from the lan to the outer world. Natd controls access to the lan. We have a 6.0 mb/s ADSL net connection for all the gaming clients to use, however if a gamer starts downloading a file, that file

Fatal Trap 12: page fault while in kernel mode on IBM x340 after Aug25CVS
Hi, We did an upgrade of one of our machines from an Aug 25 CVS and ever since then one of the machines likes to reboot about once a day. The machine is the following: IBM x340 2x1GHZ Processors 1GB RAM 3x36GB Drives (RAID 5) Mylex ExtreRAID 352 In the panic it mentions httpd, but I don't *think* it's apache (1.3.27) that's causing the problem, or am I wrong? I also believe it is

panic: vinvalbuf: flush failed
Hi, We have a pretty serious problem with our news server crashing during the expire cronjob. This happened with 4.7-RELEASE, so we upgraded to 4.8-RELEASE recently, hoping that the problem might be fixed, but it isn't. The machine is a Compaq DL360-G2. I've searched the PR database as well as the mailing list archives for the panic string, but didn't find anything. What makes the

SYN Attacks - how i cant stop it
Hi, I got this error when i tried to type for some of those. "sysctl: unknown oid...." any idea.. my server seems to be very lagged, where else the network connection seems fine, i think BSD itself as my other redhat box is fine. What else can i do to get optimum protection. Thanks. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Per Engelbrecht" <per@xterm.dk> To:

I/O descriptor ring size bottleneck?
Hi everyone, I''m doing some networking experiments over high BDP topologies. Right now the configuration is quite simple -- two Xen boxes connected via a dummynet router. The dummynet router is set to limit bandwidth to 500Mbps and simulate an RTT of 80ms. I''m using the following sysctl values: net.ipv4.tcp_rmem = 4096 87380 4194304 net.ipv4.tcp_wmem = 4096

Need help with rate-limiting NTTP traffic
Howdy all, I posted this message to the netfilter mailing-list and didn''t get much response. I apologize if anyone here is getting this for a second time. Anyway, I recently migrated my firewall from a FreeBSD box running ipfilter, ipnat and dummynet to a Gentoo Linux box running netfilter and tc. I have to admit that I''m having problems visualizing tc in my head. So, I was

Gigabit Ethernet Security With Ipfilter
Hello all, I want to learn about requirements if I want to protect gigabit network with ipfilter as transparent firewall. Which type of hardware is required to install FreeBSD + ipf (as transparancy ) . We use 3 gigabit ethernet to protection which type of gigabit ethernet carts are powerfull. Also, what about the NMBCLUSTERS , IPSTATE_SIZE and IPSTATE_MAX in ip_state.h. I want to collect all

kmem_map too small: 260046848 total allocated
After about a day and a half or so of uptime, I'm getting the aforementioned panic on the server ... better then having it hang solid, but right now I'm not sure if this is replacing it, or just one being triggered earlier then the other ... First scan through Google, I came across some posts talking about NMBCLUSTERS ... since its at the same settings as my other server (the default)

Hints stopped working suddently
Hello, I've had Asterisk and Polycom phones work perfectly with hints for the last 6 months. Suddently, I realize they've stopped working in the last few days. I haven't changed the configuration in any way. I have hints setup (CLI "show hints" does show the hints, and they seem correct). But when I do dial using one of the SIP registrations, I don't see those

Prevent total volume size reduction
I have a question regarding total volume size of a mounted GlusterFS volume. At least in a simple replicated volume (2x1) the size of the volume is the one of the smallest brick. We can extend it live by extending the corresponding bricks, and the GLusterFS volume will immediately appear bigger, up to the size of the smallest brick. Now, I had a problem on my setup, long story short, an LVM

lots of sockets in TIME_WAIT
Hi there, I have some DDOS(?) attack on my router going where my apache HTTP server is flooded with short-timed connections from some host. This results in LOTS of sockets in TIME_WAIT/LAST_ACK/CLOSING states and eventually I'm out of mbufs, which, consequently means I can't even connect to the router from LAN. The kern.ipc.nmbclusters is 2560, (I guess high enough for router with
