Starting slapd: /bin/bash: /tmp/start-slapd.K12378: Permission denied
Hi,
I'm running Centos 5, with openldap Version: 2.3.27 Release: 8.el5_2.4.
When I run:
$ sudo /etc/init.d/ldap start
I get the following error:
Starting slapd: /bin/bash: /tmp/start-slapd.l14891: Permission denied
(obviously the temp file number changes every time).
It appears to be a permission problem but I thought I did everything to set
up the permissions correctly...

Migrating from Centos 5 NT4 style to Centos 7 issues
I vaguely remember some issue where openldap between versions went from
using a single file for config to a multiple file config. I think you
could use the slapcat command to convert.

Hi Alberto,
I currently don't have an OpenLDAP server running, but let's try it
anyway. :-)

Can you make sure that there is no /etc/openldap/slapd.d/ directory? If
it exists, delete it - otherwise

Migrating from Centos 5 NT4 style to Centos 7 issues
Yes, is working.
Marc, the issue was the slap.d folder inside /etc/openldap/, once I delete
I follow my own manual about migrating LDAP to other server and still
working.
Now, I will continue with samba, thanks guys!!!

Centos 6.4 - yum update gives: Error: kernel conflicts with bfa-firmware
On trying a yum update I get the following error:
Error: kernel conflicts with bfa-firmware
yum suggests I work around the problem with --skip-broken or try running
'rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest'
Is there an accepted process for resolving this?

sedwards@sedwards.com causes me to be knocked off the list
Someone on this list uses the address @sedwards.com
I doubt this is their actual email address as there is no MX record for
sedwards.com and I can't find registration for their domain either.
Part of my mail servers reject these emails because they cannot be
replied to, or are likely to be spam.
Every so often I get a mail from the list management to say that I've
been unsubscribed

Centos 6 - x11vnc auto probing to port 5903
Hi all,
I was at one time able to get x11vnc to start on 5900 but for some reason its listening on port 5903.
Here is what the logs say;
-- snippet
X display :0.0
-- snippet
The VNC desktop is: hostname:3
Why is the VNC desktop going to 3?
I was working on 5900 previous to a reboot, unsure what changed, but something obviously has.

Outlook 2010 very slow when using IMAP - are there any tweaks?
Hi,
though this is a bit of a side question, has anybody had an issue
while running Outlook 2010 with Dovecot?
The reason why I am asking is that I have setup a Dovecot 2.1.7 server
on FreeBSD which works fantastically with Thunderbird but Outlook
seems to be twice as slow in transferring information across??
# dovecot -n
# 2.1.7: /usr/local/etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf
# OS: FreeBSD 8.2-RELEASE

Migrating from Centos 5 NT4 style to Centos 7 issues
Hi.
I want to move my current domain running centos 5 to centos 7.
Samba3x ==>Samba4x
openldap 2.3x==>2.4.x
I move my ldap backup that I got from backups:
slapcap -l mydomain.ldif
Next move my config files to the new server:
/etc/ldap.conf
/etc/openldap/slapd.conf
/etc/openldap/ldap.conf
Schemas are correct.
Copy DB_CONFIG that doesn't exist on openldap 2.4, to /var/lib/ldap/

Configure LAGG Interface?
Greetings- I'd like to configure multiple copper NICs on a server running CentOS 6.2 in a LAGG configuration for better throughput to the core switch. After quite a bit of searching, I'm not seeing anything of the sort. Is LAGG specific to the BSD world and the HP switches I'm running? Or, does it go by a different name? Bonding perhaps? If so, is bonding compatible with LAGG?

Wierd cursor jump when I type letter "y"
Guys. I have this problem for a long time.
In large number of times when I type letter "y", like in "you" my typing
cursor jumps 2-3 rows up or 1-2 words to the left.
I am unable to understand why. Could it be something with lap-top
keyboard? Typing rate?
CentOS 5.5 Gnome, I mostly use Firefox and Thunderbird.

Hey All,
I'm developing a site on a VPS that comes stock with dovecot 1.2.17 and I'm
trying to setup some functionality that is very specific to our business
model.
My question is this: How do I create (programatically) aliases for a
forwarder?
I have an address, email at domain.com that gets sent to a php script and I
want users to be able to send to that script via any number of

Hi. Somebody in the Spanish CentOS mailing list is asking how to move from
CentOS 4.8 to 4.9. He cannot upgrade to 5 or 6 at this moment. Any Hints /
Howto? I would pass the translated answer to the Sp. list.
Thanks & Regards,

Worrying after IPv6 day...
Hi,
after IPv6 day, I was wondering if our server were really secure...
And, I know we should switch on IPv6 everywhere but... it will take some time.
Usually, we disable(d) IPv6; so we are not running ip6tables.
Can I start ip6tables in all cases (even if only IPv4) just to be on the safe side?
On CentOS 6 servers, I use the --noipv6 in the kickstart files and I removed NetworkManager; but

NTOP alternatives?
Hi all.
I have currently a task to implement a network traffic analyzer. Some years
ago I've used NTOP for that purpose, I would also like to test some
alternatives.
Which alternatives can you recommend and why?
Thanks ;)
Best regards,
Rafa? Radecki.

Getting confirmation for power button
Using CentOS 5.8:
Currently on my workstations, when I press the power button the computer
immediately does a 'shutdown -h now' (per /etc/acpid/events/power.conf).
Is there a way to change it so that a confirmation dialog comes up, rather
than an immediate shutdown?
I assume that I am going to need to change that power.conf file to tell
some program that the power button's been
