using sqldf's read.csv.sql to read a file with "NA" for missing
I'm trying to use sqdf's function read.csv.sql to read CSV files in which the missing values are represented by NA's.
Plain old read.csv works fine on these files, but they are rather large and I'd like to filter using sql-like statements.
However, even if I specify field.types correctly and nrows=-1, it still turns the columns with NA's into chars or 0.
I'm trying to make

setting par(fig) resets par(mfrow), par(mfcol)
Can we add a note to the documentation that setting par(fig) resets
par(mfrow) and par(mfcol) to c(1,1)?
Or are mfrow and mfcol now deprecated in favor of all the split screen
stuff? (I was spending the morning trying to write some code that plotted
multiple subplots within whatever plot region was active at the moment; I
was able to set and reset fig successfully, but got very confused as to

par(mfcol=2, mfrow=3) equivalent for trellis
Dear friends of lattice,
I know how to position trellis plots with print(...,split,more=T) or
(...position).
Sometimes I wish I had something like the old "par(mfcol=2, mfrow=3)"
mechanism, where the next free viewport is automatically chosen. I tried
fiddling with grid-viewports, but could not find an easy solution.
Did I miss something?

Problem with ssh-keygen
Dear Developer,
I'm having problem running ssh_keygen on my solaris 7 box. Can you
please tell me as to why I'm getting this error as described below? I
don't have that problem with solaris 8 that runs SMCossh 3.0.2p1
Thanks in advance.

legend in multiple plot
Dear R users,
I'm making multiple plots within the same pdf page (par(mfcol = c(5,1)), and
want a legend for this at the bottom of all the plots. From previous mails
it has been suggested to use par(xpd=TRUE), increase the margin at the last
plot, and then draw the legend. However, when I do this, the last plot gets
smaller with the same amount I increase the margin with.
The problem seems to

changing default character size depending on settings for mfcol: How to scale font consistently?
Dear R-users,
I would like to create pdf files with varying paper sizes. The paper
size is determine by the number of plots that I squeeze on a page using
par(mfcol).
I also add text to each of these plots. I observed that depending on the
number of plots per page, the default character size is changing,
leading to differing font sizes in my plot annotations.
I would like to use cex to

Multiple plots; single x(y) labels
Hi All,
Can anyone please help me with getting a single x and y-axis label while
plotting muliple plots. Here is the code:

plot(x <- sort(rnorm(27)), type = "s", main = "", ylab="", xlab="")

COM dates (was origin and "origin<-" in chron)
I was just looking for an easy way to convert between COM datetime and
chron datetime (both ways.)
I found examples on the list, but they involved origin.
Does anyone have functions for converting COM datetime <-> chron
datetimethat work "safely"?

[IMPORTANT BUGFIX][ACM][XM] FIX essential security check in block-attach / indentation problem introduced in change set changeset 11572
This patch fixes an indentation error in main.py. The effect of this bug
is that block-attach does not check labels if the ACM is active. This
bug slipped in with change set 11572_:_ ad22c711ccb7
<http://xenbits.xensource.com/xen-unstable.hg?cs=ad22c711ccb7>.
This patch is essential and should get into 3.0.3. I tested the patch
with security off and on.
Thanks

Impact of cex changing as a function of mfrow
R 2.15.1
OS X (MLion)
Colleagues,
I am aware that changes in mfrow / mfcol in par() affect cex (from help: In a layout with exactly two rows and columns the base value of ?"cex"? is reduced by a factor of 0.83: if there are three or more of either rows or columns, the reduction factor is 0.66).
I generate a multipage PDF in which mfrow varies such that cex is impacted. This affect

Reccomendation for graphics package
Hello,
What would you recommend for producing publication-quality plots with R?
Built-in graphics, trellis, ggplot2, or something else?
Basic requirements:
- I need to draw line-, box-, density-plots, bar-charts and histograms
- error bars on bar- and box-plots
- easy tiling of multiple plots on a single "page"
Basic R plotting with mfrow and mfcol parameters is not satisfactory

how to undo automatic loading of packages?

Now whenever I start up in this directory, I get distr and lots of other
stuff loaded and lots of messages.
How do I keep it from automatically loading, other than starting over in
another directory?
I read ?Startup, but I couldn't suss out

[PATCH] ACM: adding C-support for policy translation and labeling support for domains
This patch:
* adds a C-based security policy translation tool to Xen (secpol_xml2bin)
and removes the current Java
security policy translator (Java dependencies). The C-based tool
integrates into the Xen source tree build
and install (using gnome libxml2 for XML parsing). See install.txt.
* introduces security labels and related tools. Users can now use
semantic-rich label names to put

Samba: 32 or 64 bit
All
Due to an application issue I need to let app support know whether the
version of Samba we are running is 32 or 64 bit. We are running Samba
2.2.8 on Solaris 8 (64 bit mode). Aplogies if this is really obvious but I
have looked many places with no luck.
It was installed from a file containing Solaris packages -

Help with reshaping data.frame
I'm having trouble reshaping a data.frame from long to wide.
(I think that's the right terminology; feel free to educate me.)
I've looked at the reshape function and package and plyr package,
but I can't quite figure out how to do this after a dozen variations.
I have a data.frame with more levels than this, but similar to:

plot and lm (2)
Thanks for your reply Nassar.
What I really want is to overlay (like add=TRUE) the plots 1 and 2. With
plots "at the same screen" I meant overlaid and not one beside the other,
i.e., only one plot with all the points (1 to 10) in blue (or any other
color), the points 5 to 9 in red and a regression line from points 5 to 9.
Best regards,
Antonio Olinto

Migrate a Samba 3.0 PDC from Redhat 9 to Debian Sarge
Hi all,
I have a Samba 3.0.20b installation on a Redhat 9 system running as PDC
for a Windows Domain. I now would like to move the PDC funktionality to
an existing Debian Sarge system running Samba 3.0.23c and then
decommision the Redhat system.
I did search for information on how to do this but all the information
that I could find seems to deal with Samba 2.x PDCs since the
MACHINE.SID file is
