living with masq
I'm on too many lists already, so haven't joined this one. If you have things that I really need to know, please reply or CC me off-list. I often work through masqueraded (NAT) links, and find that the following patch is able to keep an idle ssh link up where nothing else will. Please consider making it a part of the main ssh package.

Passing parameters to before_filter methods
I have a method that checks for a given role. I want to write something in my controllers like before_filter :check_roles(''admin'') Which will ensure the current user has the admin role. Is it possible to pass parameters in this way? Ian

Ruby Gems and Rails
Hi, I think this has been discussed previously on the list, so apologies if I''m covering old ground but I''ve been using puppet to manage a few Rails applications which have dependencies on quite a few gems, so it''s getting to be a bit of an onerous task to manage them. It looks like the command line interface to gems doesn''t really support automated

Odds Ratio and Logistic Regression
Dear All, I am learning the ropes about logistic regression in R. I found some interesting examples http://bit.ly/Vq4GgX http://bit.ly/W9fUTg http://bit.ly/UfK73e but I am a bit lost. I have several questions. 1) For instance, what is the difference between glm.out = glm(response ~ poverty + gender, family=binomial(logit), data=mydata) and glm.out = glm(response ~ poverty * gender,

Restricting host access to files
I suppose that this is a question about fileserver.conf but what I''m trying to do is to have something like the following in fileserver.conf: [$hostname] path /var/lib/puppet/files/privatefiles/$hostname.txt allow $hostname Basically, this would allow access to a file named <hostname>.txt for only the host to which it should be delivered. I''m not entirely sure

RJS - Getting and Setting Form Element Values Question
I''m still a beginner with RJS so forgive me if this is a simple one - but certainly it doesn''t seem logical and googling has not led to . Given a field with an id of ''posting_subject'' I can do the following in my controller with RJS. render :update do | page | subject = ''this is really something

error message and convergence issues in fitting glmer in package lme4
I'm resending this message because I did not include a subject line in my first posting. Apologies for the inconvenience! Recursive home-dir does more than only files in repository
Hi all, Today I came across something that I consider a bug. Would like to hear your opinions. Facts: - Using 0.22.1 from Debian Unstable on a Debian Testing machine - Recipes work on other machines The recipe in question is: # Keep home-dirs in sync file { "/home/tim": recurse => true, source =>

0.11 problems
I''ve upgraded to 0.11 this morning specifically to test out the pagination stuff. When that didn''t work (didn''t recognise the command) I deleted my project and recreated from scratch. So in short rails projectname cd projectname edit config/database.yml (my database is postgres by the way) ruby scripts/generate model Recordtype ruby

Including a vector element in an if statement
Hi all, I've searched high and low on this and found nothing of help. I'm using v2.6.2 and trying to write a function that will count how many people from a dataset fall under a poverty line of 50% of the mean income. a9 is my 100-element vector of incomes. I want pa9 to be my vector that counts how many of these are classed as in poverty. My problem is that my command if(a9[i] <

lm regression query
Hello: I have a 4-column dataset: Crime, Education, Urbanization, Age. I want to construct a multiple linear regression to find the effect of Education, Urbanization, and Age on Crime" lm(Crime ~ Education + Urbanization + Age) If I use + in above statement, does it mean it will build a model to find the relationship between Crime and Education when Urbanization and Age are held constant?

(no subject)
Hello, I'm trying to fit a generalized linear mixed model to estimate diabetes prevalence at US county level. To do this I'm using the glmer() function in package lme4. I can fit relatively simple models (i.e. few covariates) but when expanding the number of covariates I usually encounter the following error message. gm8 <-

Off-Topic: Crime Statistics Don't Pay
WARNING: COMPLETELY OFF TOPIC -- Nothing to do with R. I thought readers of this list might enjoy the following. The link to the full article is at the bottom. I hope this is not "too" inappropriate. ------- Overconfidence in crime statistics doesn?t pay. In a new study, a team of criminologists makes the case that reported crime rates should acknowledge uncertainty in the data. The

":::" operator doesn't work with data object Ecdat:::Crime
????? The ":::" operator doesn't work for me with "Ecdat:::Crime" on either macOS 10.15.3 or Windows 10. ????? A different but related issue is that "plm::Crime" says "Error: 'Crime' is not an exported object from 'namespace:plm'", even though "library(plm); data(Crime); Crime" works.? I would naively think a user should

Retrieving original data frame after repetition
Dear R users, Consider the first two columns of a data frame like this: > z[,1:2] x y 1 1 1 2 2 2 3 3 3 4 1 4 Imagine that y represents the times that the value x happens in a population. But z is not exactly a frequency table, because in z we have x=1 twice. So, the x=1 in the first line and the x=1 in the fourth are not the same, differing according to a third variable in

SSL CRIME

What is the optimal place for setting this environment variable system wide? I tried to set it in

Help with multiple barplots
Hello: I need to create a six barplots from data that looks pretty close to what appears below. There are two grouping variables (age and gender) and three dependent variables for each grouping variables. I'm not really familiar with trellis graphics, perhaps there is something that can do what I need there, i don't know. The thing is: I *need* these to appear on one row, with some way

EPS->LaTeX problem
Greetings- I have a strange problem displaying a graph from R (1.3.1, linux) in a LaTeX document of documentclass seminar. I'm using graphicx to include the file: \usepackage{graphicx} ... \resizebox{\textwidth}{\textheight}{\includegraphics{crime.eps}} When I do this, the entire slide (including the page number) is rotated 180 degrees. Any ideas why this happens? The graph was created
