grub (?) issue on Optiplex 780 A15, 6.8 upgrade
Most of the upgrades to CentOS 6.8 have gone smoothly. Thanks, as
always, for all the work that goes into making it so easy to upgrade.
On a few machines, however, all of them curiously:

There is something wrong with their interaction with grub (?).
I noticed this after adding '3' to the module line to get it to

Missing module grub entry in xen-4.4.3-9 & boot issues
HI,
We've started to see several issues with the Xen releases. Going back to
basics I've used this guide

Booting C 6.0 from C 5.7
I installed C 6.0 in an empty partition. It functioned.
Despite using the usually successful methods of booting into another
operating system from C 5.7, I can't get into C 6.0
Tried:-

Missing module grub entry in xen-4.4.3-9 & boot issues
I've also had a few Xen systems grub entry issues. I'm not yet sure what
triggers the events, but I do think there *may* be a correlation to the
"/boot" part. I've found the Xen servers that have "/boot" before any of
the the lines like "/boot/xen.gz" ended up missing complete grub entries.
Not sure it's 100% true. Anyone else comment?
Thanks

serial console oddities with CentOS Linux release 6.0 (Final)
It seems as if /etc/inittab has undergone some changes. That doesn't seem
to be related to my issues however. I am able to setup the grub.conf (
menu.lst if you like ) to use the serial console ttyS0 at 9600 baud and
the usual bits.
However I can not actually see the GRUB menu at boot time. I see nothing
until the server begins to boot and then I can see everything. However the
grub menu is

Meta-analysis with zero values for mean and sd. Continuous data.
Hi,
I want to do a meta-analysis with count data for treatement/control cases.
Mi problem is that I need to use zero values (an informative zero value) for
the mean and standard deviation for one of the treatement, but R has a
problem: "Studies with zero values for sd.e or sd.c get no weight in
meta-analysis". I can agroup the case by Family (byvar=Family).
¿Can you help me? Thanks!

CentOS 6.4 kernel panic on boot after upgrading kernel to 2.6.32-431.29.2
I'm on a Supermicro server, X9DA7 motherboard, Intel C602 chipset, 2x 2.4GHz
Intel Xeon E5-2665 8-core CPU, 96GB RAM, and I'm running CentOS 6.4.
I just tried to use yum to upgrade the kernel from 2.6.32-358 to
2.6.32-431.29.2. However, I get a kernel panic on boot. The first kernel panic I
got included stuff about acpi, so I tried adding noacpi noapic to the kernel
boot parameters,

Kernel Panic post kernel-2.6.32-504.23.4.el6.x86_64
Greetings,
Today, I decided to reboot one of my CentOS machines after it had been
running for 219 days.
In this time, I had done yum updates several times. When I tried rebooting
the machine, none of the kernels would work except for the oldest one.
Here are the installed kernels:
kernel-2.6.32-504.23.4.el6.x86_64
kernel-2.6.32-573.3.1.el6.x86_64

Old hardware, newer kernels
I have an old server (old hardware) that's been running 6.4 with kernel
2.6.32-279.19.1.el6.i686, no problem. Except, any kernel update after that
causes it not to boot anymore. All I get is a blinking cursor on the
screen, nothing else.
Is this the end of this hardware, no more kernel updates after this?
For reference, these are all the options that kernel is booting up with

Booting CentOS 6 with Grub from CentOS 7
I had CentOS 6 installed on an MBR hard disk. I converted the disk to
GPT (with UEFI) and installed CentOS 7 on a new partition.
CentOS 7 itself seems to work properly.
Grub from CentOS 7 automatically created an entry for CentOS 6, but I
get an error if I try to boot CentOS 6.
The menu entry is:
menuentry 'CentOS release 6.10 (Final) (on /dev/sda7)' --class

Sorry that it took me longer to get back here - I needed an additional rpmbuild
run due to running out of disk space for my first attempt...
But I can give an all clear signal - at least for my machine, AFAIK, everything
seems to be fine:

Firstly; apologies in advance for what is a head wrecker of keeping on top of the speculative mitigations and also if this is a duplicate email; my first copy didn't seem to make it into the archive. Also a disclaimer that I may have misunderstood elements of the below but please bear with me.
I write this hoping to find out a bit more about the state of the relevant kernel
