centos on 64M 350Mhz pentimum II
All,
I have an old computer 64M 350Mhz pentium II.
centos os 4.1 installs on it fine. however on boot
it says low memory and it kills certain processes. httpd or sendmail.
I have a 2GIG swap and I did a chkconfig XXX off on a few things
like xfs, nfs, httpd, kudzu.
My old 2.4 kernel used to run in 4M with a swap...
I had recompiled the kernel (took a while) to enable the cyclades module.
Any

Security advice, please
I run chkrootkit daily. For the first time I've got reports of a problem -
Checking `bindshell'... INFECTED (PORTS: 1008)
The page http://fatpenguinblog.com/scott-rippee/checking-bindshell-infected-
ports-1008/ suggests that this might be a false positive, so I ran 'netstat -
tanup' but unlike the report, it wasn't famd on the port. It was

Disabling services in CentOS 5.5
Hello all,
I have been doing some searching for information about disabling
services within a CentOS 5.5 install. I have found a few different
opinions, and wanted to ask for some feedback.
First off, the system is running a LAMP stack to serve a web
application. It will only be doing email to send occasional messages
out (sent via the application only). It will not be receiving email
for any

Slow write times to gluster disk
Hi Soumya,
We just had the opportunity to try the option of disabling the
kernel-NFS and restarting glusterd to start gNFS. However the gluster
demon crashes immediately on startup. What additional information
besides what we provide below would help debugging this?
Thanks,
Pat

Programs on/off on virtual host machine
been playing with my host machine and thought some might want to see
what I have on and the full list of chkconfig
I have installed desktop and x windows system to bring up a desktop when
I want one with startx.
I turned 'off' quite a bit and yum removed quite a bit.
These set of programs still allow full use as a host so far, including
the startx desktop.

RFC: First pass at making the node generic...
I'm looking for feedback on this first patch. The node has been pushed
towards a more generic boot process. With this patch the node can now
boot up and execute a few specifically-named scripts that reside in
/etc/node.d/ at key points during the startup.
After this goes upstream, the next step will be to define in more detail
the remote interfaces for the "managed" runtime

[PATCH: node 0/3] replace ovirt-identify-node with matahari
This patchset removes ovirt-identify-node and ovirt-listen awake.
It adds startup script support for the matahari qmf agent, which takes
over the responsibility for communicating node hardware capabilities
to the ovirt-server.
On the server side, host-browser has had its node identification
functionality replaced by a new script, host-register, which is what
interfaces with the matahari qmf agent

[PATCH: ovirt-identify-node replacement 0/4] ovirt node patch to replace ovirt-identify-node with matahari qmf agent
The purpose of this patch is to add support for the matahari qmf agent
package (http://git.et.redhat.com/?p=matahari.git;a=summary) to the node.
The following actions are taken:
1. Deprecate ovirt-identify-node and ovirt-listen-awake by removing
them from the autotools scripts, the rpm spec and the node startup scripts.
2. Remove ovirt-listen-awake and ovirt-identify-node completely.
3. Add

nfsv4 and kerberos - fails to mount
I have been trying all sorts of things to get this working.
nfsv4 works fine if I just use the nfs-v3 form of export
i.e.
/nfs4exports
192.168.230.237/24(ro,fsid=0,sync,insecure,no_root_squash,no_subtree_check,squash_uids=0-99)
/nfs4exports/NDG
192.168.230.237/24(rw,insecure,no_subtree_check,nohide,sync,no_root_squash,squash_uids=0-99)
but this is inherently open to all on this machine.
so then

Cannot boot; stops at Sendmail
I shut the server down last evening due to power surges and when I tried
to bring it back up, it stops at starting sendmail. Is there a way
around this?

[PATCH server] Update daemons to use new QMF.
This patch updates dbomatic, taskomatic and host-register to use the
new C++ wrapped ruby QMF bindings. It also fixes a couple of bugs
along the way including the 0 cpu bug for host-register. This is a
compilation of work done by myself and Arjun Roy.

CentOS 6: files now owned by nobody:nobody
Hi,
We are running a cluster under CentOS 6.6. We recently attached a new
NAS device, running CentOS 6.8 and rsync'd our user file system to it.
We noticed that all the files were owned by nobody (with nobody as the
group). We copied over the /etc/passwd and /etc/group files from our
front-end server to our NAS server. If we log in to the NAS server we
see the files owned by their

[PATCH: server] Added qmf matahari example to ovirt-server.
Just a quick script modeled after the libvirt-qpid example that dumps all
connected ovirt-node hardware info to standard out, for debug purposes.

CentOS 5.1 install via PXE Failure
Hi All,
This has to be something simple....but it's really busting my chops. We have
a PXE boot server that is used for initial installation of a number of
operating systems and it works well. However the CentOS 5.1 x86_64 install
is seriously broken.
We've made the PXE boot images available from
"centos/5/os/x86_64/images/pxeboot/" in the tftp boot etc. We've rsynced

System hang during shutdown (halt)
Alle,
I'm running V5.3 (newly installed) on an FJ E8020 laptop. The problem I
have is when shutting down (*not* rebooting). NetworkManager fails to
stop and after (during?) the postfix shutdown, the system seems to hang.
I cannot access via another screen or remotely. I can't find any clues
in the log files. I could use some suggestions on troubleshooting.

[PATCH] Set up ovirt-agent so it starts as a daemon
This sets up ovirt-agent to start as a daemon along with dbomatic,
taskomatic etc. While this is not ready for prime time I think it
should be ok as you still require a valid, authenticated, connection
to qpidd to access it.
