alternatives package?
Hi,
In my struggle today to get python2.4 installed on my CentOS4 system, I saw
that it installed a packaged called alternatives which is supposed to handle
symbolic links to default commands in a nice clean, structured way.
However, I am having trouble understanding how this thing works.
I have read the man page half a dozen times already, and yet the alternative
link for python which was

Help - Overwrote database
Hey all. Hope you can help with this. I was running "rake" to run
tests on my server we are setting up for production. I''m currently
entering all my data into the dev database. After running "rake", my
dev database looked just like my test database. It overwrote all my
data??!!??
I was using the same db for production and development if that
matters. My database.yml

ices 0.3 on FreeBSD
I have successfully compiled Ices 0.3 on FreeBSD (4.7 and 4.9).
You need to make sure that ALL the dependicies are installed (some depend on
others) and when compiling them, that they compile with no problems.
<p>Include some output of what errors you are getting and I #should# be able to
help you on your way.

LiveIce and Zope
I have a very weird problem between Liveice and Zope.
I start LiveIce with a script shell that works well. Since I want to run
it under a Zope page I made a Zope "external method" to run the script
through a Python module. When I call the method, the script is called by a
function in the python module, and runs, but LiveIce does not work (seems
like it does not even start). The weird

Pyhton Install location/building rpm
Hello All
I need to install Python 2.4.2 for installing Zope. What is the
location for python that should be given in the ./configure --prefix
directive?
/usr/lib is for python libraries..isn't it and thats where I find most
of python installed except for the python binary in /sbin
Should I uninstall the normal python installed in Centos 4.2 by
default before installing from source?

Python dependency in packages?
I apologize if this isn't the correct destination for these errors,
but I tried installing xen on my ubuntu (breezy badger) system via:
deb-src http://packages.debianbase.de/sources/xen3 ./
and then tried building locally via apt-get source xen.
The only problem appears to be the explicit python2.3 dependency in :
debian/rules
debian/libxen-python.install
a simple s/python2.3/python2.4/

Yum breaks after updating to CentOS 4.6
Hi everyone,
Yum on one my CentOS systems has decided to stop functioning after an
upgrade to CentOS 4.6. It's complaining about errors with
Python-SQLite packages?
Any ideas anyone? Here is what happens.

non-privaledged reboot ???
Greetings
On centos 5, if I ssh in as a regular non-superuser account and go to the
sbin dir to issue a reboot command, it wont do it as says you must be
superuser
If you are on the console logged in as a non-superuser account and do the
same thing, it will reboot.
Is this a feature, or a bug?

utility to find which /dev/videoX
is there a utility or SOME method to
determine which /dev/videoX (like /dev/video0 or /dev/video1)
is being used by a device???
Example I have a USB camera and a USB TV module
how do I determine which device is on /dev/video0 and which is on
/dev/video1
I have seen perhaps a way in dmesg but I am looking for the
BEST way and the correct way.
Thanks,

USB Thumb Drive Confusion
I am running CentOS 4.7. I have a USB flash (thumb) drive that has a
bunch of files placed there by Windows. I plugged it into the CentOS
machine, and when I listed the files under "/media/usb-name", there
was nothing there.
I created an empty file:
touch blah
and it showed up when I did list it.
I noticed, checking dmesg that it was attached to /dev/sdb.
So I did a quick

ext2online / ext2resize
I'm running CentOS 5.2 x x86_64.
I did an lvextend of a logical volume, and proceeded to run one of the
ext2 utilities (e.g. ext2online, ext2resize) and found to my surprise
that it wasn't on there.
So I started googling around, and as far as I can see, though I'm not
sure, they're supposed to be a part of the e2fsprogs package.
Well, it's installed on the system, at least

include-exclude patterns
Hi,
I just subscribe to ask you a question about patterns in exclude-include
files.
I just want some folders to be rsynced to a remote machine.
What I tried is :
IncludeFile
-------------------------
/etc/
/var/lib/zope/
- /*
-----------------------
result of
$$ rsync -avvrn --delete --delete-excluded
--include-from=/backup-include -e ssh / /backup

Yum messages: /usr/lib/liblzo.so.1 is not a symbolic link
Ran yum update this A.M. Got this. Is it a problem for rpmforge, CentOS
or just me? Maybe not a problem at all?
/etc/ld.so.conf.d files are "box stock", so there were no clues there.
TIA for any insight.
