keytab-lilo included with SYSLINUX is not up to date
Hi,
I just noticed that the keytab-lilo utility included with SYSLINUX isn't
up to date. It *is* a problem since the old version isn't compatible
with current distributions like Debian ou Ubuntu (for example).
Two options are offered to those who would like to use keytab-lilo in
order to generate a file compatible with the KBDMAP directive :
- use an up to date version of keytab-lilo

Is it possible to control R with S+?
I am currently using S+, which is my company standard econometric package,
but unfortunately in some areas R has a lot more to offer in nice
functions/libraries. Libraries I would like to use in S+. So I would like to
use the R functions by calling on R from S+. For example export the data to
be used in the R calculation in a temporary txt-file, and then S+ calls on R
to start and read the txt

Two R sessions?
Hi R users,
I am still a relatively new R user migrated from S+. I wonder in R
how do you handle one difference between R and S+. S+ saves objects
as different files in .Data directory while R saves all objects in
a big file .RData. In S+, I can start two S+ sessions from the same
directory and work simultaneously as long as new objects in the two
sessions are not in the same names. This is

Hello,
I am interested in R as an alternative for a statistical tool at our firm. I
do know RATS an SPSS but not S+. As I read that R is close to S+, I would
like to know if you could recommend me any books as an introduction to S+ or
R.
Best regards
Marc

variations in how long commands take
We are performming a series of S+ 6.0 versus R 1.3 comparisons. (If anyone has
already written scripts for this purpose, we would be eager for a copy.) The
purpose is to see if there are any "gotchas" -- places were S+ works and R
doesn't -- that would prevent us from going all the way over to R. (We have
lots of legacy code, so the conversion costs are non-trivial.) As part of this

Reg GARCH+ARIMA
Hi,
Although my doubt is pretty,as i m not from stats background i am not sure
how to proceed on this.
Currently i am doing a forecasting.I used ARIMA to forecast and time series
was volatile i used garchFit for residuals.
How to use the output of Garch to correct the forecasted values from ARIMA.
Here is my code:
###delta is the data
fit<-arima(delta,order=c(2,,0,1))

NLS results different from Excel
The idea that the Excel solver "has a good reputation for being fast and
accurate" does not withstand an examination of the Excel solver's
ability to solve the StRD nls test problems. Solver's ability is
abysmal. 13 of 27 "answers" have zero accurate digits, and three more
have fewer than two accurate digits -- and this is after tuning the
solver to get a good

Fail2ban 'Password mismatch' regex

I?m trying to get Fail2ban to detect this log line:

R CMD build with mingw and msys (PR#9766)
Full_Name: Steffen
Version: 2-5-0

Hi,
the R CMD build script is using
if($WINDOWS) {
## workaround for paths in Cygwin tar
$filepath =~ s+^([A-Za-z]):+/cygdrive/\1+;
}
which does not work if the build environment is a MINGW.
I have added the patch below,

Problem with differences between S+ and R in parsing output tables with $
R-wizards
I have successfully run with S+ a statistical power calculation for
non-normal distributions as presented in M. Crawley?s new book.? When I
tried the newest version of R on the same code, the $ parse statement
doesn't seem to retrieve the appropriate number from a table. Note that
some of the cosmetic differences in the two tables have to be dealt with
by the parser. Any ideas

problems creating data frames
I am having two problems creating data frames that I have solutions, but
they really seem like kludges and I assume I just don't understand the
proper R way of doing things.
The first situation is I have an set of uneven data vectors. When I try to
use them to create a data frame I would like the bottoms of them padded with
NAs, without explicitly specifying that. When I do:

Hi,
I'm a new R users (although I have a little experience with S+). I am using the latest version (1.4.1) of R on a Windows 2000 system.
I have obtained several of the additional R packages ("modules") and would like to know how to permanently install them. What I am after is something similar to the following in S+

On a lark, I looked through my dirs @ permissions. Shorted lines a bit
so they'd fit w/o extra lines between them using:
(get rid of text before permissions, and shorten user/group to a few letter)
find . -type d -ls|sed -r

Is R really an open source S+ ?
This is not a criticism. I'm just curious. Is there an effort to keep R
comparable to S+?
Or are the two languages diverging? I am doing what probably legions have
done before me,
and legions will after me...using R on examples from text books written with
S+ code. Most of the
time everything appears to be equivalent. And then there are amazing
divergences in commands. For
instance:
