Very long delay for first write to big filesystem
I asked about this a while back. It seems that this problem is getting much
worse.
The problem/issue: there is a very long delay when my system does a write
to the filesystem. The delay now is over 5 minutes (yes: minutes). This
only happens on the first write after booting up the system, and only for
large files - 1GB or more. This can be a serious problem since all access

Re: Very long delay for first write to big filesystem
Thx Andreas.
re: block bitmaps - yes that is what I really meant. My experience with
filesystems is mainly from CPM/BDOS, where "directory" and block mapping
are essentially synonymous.
And now I understand about the timing. Makes sense when you describe it
that way.
My system is ext4, although I doubt that I used "flex_bg" option, since
this was first created awhile back. I

Zaptel ztdummy module causes playback to fail
I'm using asterisk 1.4.11 and Zaptel version 1.4.5.1 with kernel
2.6.22. I have the ztdummy module loaded, which is using zaptel and rtc.
When the ztdummy module is loaded, sounds are not heard when using the
asterisk "background" command. When the ztdummy module is unloaded,
which also removes zaptel and rtc, sounds are heard.
I've also tested this under kernel 2.6.21 with the

Problem with asterisk 1.4.11 and playing files to meetme conference
I am using asterisk Version: 1:1.4.11~dfsg-1 as found in Debian. I'm
using a call file to connect a meetme conference to an AGI script which
plays files using the stream_file method. I have four files which should
play in sequence, though only the first two files actually play. I get
these errors in the CLI:

portmap & tcpwrappers
I don't know if this is RedHat 5.1 specific, but be aware that the version
of portmap distributed is the enhanced (Wietse Venema) version. That's
great, except for two things. The first is documented, but easy to overlook:
"In order to avoid deadlocks, the portmap program does not attempt to look
up the remote host name or user name...The upshot of all this is that only

speaking of sieve scripts... how to selectively not send vacation autoreply
Don't need to block anyone like in the "Re: Dovecot Oy merger with
Open-Xchange AG" thread, but when I have my vacation recipie active, I'd like
it to NOT reply to certain addresses.
I tried the following, you can see the section with
if header :contains "addressIdontwant at repliedtoo.tld"
is commented out, once I'd added that section, no Vacation messages

rails behind multiple proxies
I submitted a patch to fix a problem I have experienced when multiple
proxies are in between the rails process and the browser.
http://dev.rubyonrails.org/ticket/3397
This problem has come up because I have a few rails application on an
intranet where I have to use proxies to provide access to some
clients. I have done little work with this sort of thing before so I
was hoping to get more input

Using Internet proxies
There have been quite a few questions recently about this, so I have
tried to gather experience. I set up a proxy using Apache2 (a very common
server) behind our firewall and tried various authentication approaches.
One comment: all the methods return error messages when they fail. Please
don't report `it doesn't work' without the full details.

asterisk & proxies...
Hi All,
I have no experience with VOIP or SIP, but I am a *nix networking admin for
some years now and I would like to get into working with SIP etc...
I have installed asterisk and configured it to run with 2 software phones.
This works fine, and I can chat between 2 client machines in our office.
Please can anyone point me to any documentation about how to use authentication
to stop
