Unable to create raw volume on netfs storage (Operation not permitted)
Hello,
we are trying to create a new setup with a centralized storage server. Currently we are running multiple "All-in-One" hosts using raw volumes stored on the local disk of the server.
I tried it first with samba but it did not work so currently I have configured it as NFS.
This is my current setup:
For Storage:
OS: Ubuntu 16.04 beta (to match vHost version),
IP: 123.123.123.2

CentOS 5 sshd does not log IP address of reverse mapping failure
I'm running a mix of CentOS 5 and 6 servers reachable by ssh
from the Internet. Of course I allow only public key authentication
and no root login. In addition I'm running fail2ban to block
obnoxious brute force attack sources.
On CentOS 6 this is working pretty well, but on CentOS 5 there's
one class of attacks fail2ban fails to ban. (No pun intended.)
This isn't fail2ban's

cr repo and firewalling
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Hi,
I find myself in a complicated situation and would like to ask the
oracle (choke!) for help. I would like to install the packages from
the continuous release repo and the yum config for this repo says
baseurl=http://mirror.centos.org/centos/$releasever/cr/$basearch/
well, I definitely do not want to allow worldwide outgoing http so I

Booting a non linux application via pxe
Hello
I have an application running on top of the ORK (Open Ravenscar Kernel).
The file format of the executable is elf:
$ file /var/tftp/hello.vmic7750
/var/tftp/hello.vmic7750: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1
(SYSV), statically linked, not stripped
I wonder if I can use pxelinux for booting the kernel via network on the
target machine. The
target machine support PXE. I

CentOS 6 early panic on ESXi 4.1.0 build 800380
I run VMware vSphere 4 Essentials with three almost identically
configured ESXi 4.1 hosts and a mix of 32 and 64 bit guests including
Windows 2003 and 2008 as well as CentOS 5 and 6. Recently I updated one
of the hosts to build 800380. The new build runs Windows and CentOS 5
VMs fine, but CentOS 6 guests won't come up.
I tried two different CentOS 6 VMs. Both have the latest standard kernel

cross-compiling nut
Hello,
I would like to run nut 2.6.1 on an embeeded machine ( arm9 ) running linux and uclibc. A working gcc tool chain came with the board.
How can I compile and build nut using the cross compiler tool chain ?
I know that this is not a very specific question. I have however little experience with cross compiling, and I wonder where to start. A logical point would be the configure script. It

yum list installed - 3rd column
On most of the CentOS 5 machines I manage, if I run "yum list
installed" the third column just says "installed" for all
packages. But on one machine, some lines show instead a repo
name preceded by an @ sign. Apparently the repo from which the
package was installed, which would be immensely useful.
Two questions:
1. Can I have that feature on the other CentOS 5 machines too?

Every time I go to http://bugs.centos.org/my_view_page.php I am

NFSv4 "Missing" Data on Clients
Hello all. I converted my server from Fedora Core 3 to CentOS 4.1 and I've
been slogging unsuccessfully through an NFSv4 problem. I'm using the same
configuration for NFS that I had in place on FC3 that worked. On the server,
I have the following data structure:
/data
/data/archive
/data/pictures
/data/music
Each is a separate ext3 filesystem mounted with rw,acl. /etc/exports

Netinstall & NFS using local server.
Dear CentOS community,
I have install centos via CD, DVD and Directly off the net via http and FTP. Now I want to do a NFS install from a local server and a client. Both, client and server are in the same vlan 10.14.10.0/255.255.255.0.
The server has a static 10.14.10.15 address and the client gets its own address via DHCP. I download the DVD image from one of the mirrors and placed it under

EDNS support
I am having problems with EDNS support on a few Centos 6.3 bind
servers. I am trying to determine if the problem is my Juniper SSG5
firewall of Centos.
All the servers have firewall enabled, though I have tested with
stopping iptables and ip6tables. I am using tests from:

fail2ban attempt, anyone want to add anything?
Tonight I added fail2ban to one of my webservers to test it out.
Here is my step by step, as best as I could figure it
out...documentation a bit sketchy.
feel free to add anything to it or suggest changes.
I tried to set it up to deal with ssh, http authentication, dovecot,
ftp, and postfix
I could find no working example for centos 6 and there is no fail2ban
book available to peruse.
So,

5.9 logwatch yum filter broken

/usr/share/logwatch/scripts/services/yum got broken:

Can't install Half-Life
Hi all,
I got problems installing Half-Life. I manage to start the Setup.exe, the
installer loads and the WAV file is played :)
Then, wine/HL hangs. There's no error msg or something, it just freezes.
I use Wine ver 0.0.2000010 (latest deb package).
Can someone help me? I checked out http://lhl.linuxgames.com and
http://www.winehq.com already...
TIA,
