Thank you puppet!!
I''ve been hacking at puppet for the past week or two, and came up with
some great stuff, but I''m wondering if there''s a way to tie it all
together
To create a virtual machine for our company''s QA environment, I''m
currently doing 3 things:
#create a vm
node vmsvr2 inherits default {
include vmserver
vmserver::vm {

Spot the cyclical relationship
I got the following error, but there''s no "cycle" I commented out
File["/dev/sdb3"] and it works, but of course would choke if I ran it

New error in Centos 5.1
Just started a "pilot" puppet server for real after messing around in

and on the test run, got this:

Simple Search and replace on puppetmaster?
Is there any way to do a simple search and replace on the puppetmaster
server?
I''m passing one IP address for one interface on a box, and attempting to
set the second according to a convention we use, so I need something
like
$eth1_ip = `echo "10.100.6.99" | sed -r -e
''s/\.[0-9]+\.([0-9]+)$/.94.\1/''`
# eth1_ip = 10.100.94.99

access to databases in puppet - best practice?
Hello!
In my puppet configuration I need to get some data from database.
Ie.: I''ve got information about my all hosts in db - thier name, mac
addresses, ip addresses, what to backup from this host etc. For now
it''s just .xml file, but it could be sql db, or ldap directory. Then,
using this small "database", I want to generate configuration using
puppet - ie.:

Another ''found a bug'' problem - This time with user purging.
Ok, given the statement on the web page about unlesssystemuser under
Resources (
http://reductivelabs.com/projects/puppet/documentation/typedocs.html#resources),
I assume that users can be purged.
However, when I attempt to do this with resources { user: purge => true,
noop => true } and what I get is:
err: Found a bug: private method ''split'' called for nil:NilClass.

puppet hangs on Puppet::Type::Package::ProviderYum
This is particularly nasty, since it''s on the puppetmaster itself:
[root@puppet tmp]# rpm -q yum puppet puppet-server

puppet-server-0.24.0-2.el5

CA_Server woes
I''m having difficulty getting my head around some CA issues
My client has:
[puppetd]
ca_server=puppetca.mydomain.com
and puppet resolves to a different machine.
when puppet connects, it requests a signature from
puppetca.mydomain.combut then on the next pass fails with the
following:
err: Could not retrieve catalog: Certificates were not trusted: SSL_connect
returned=1 errno=0

OpenVZ configuration of networking with puppet - big crash
I am trying to streamline the current distribution specific setup and
creation of VE''s within OpenVZ with puppet. My first attempt has gone
horribly wrong as you will see below. Here''s the script I wrote to
replace the redhat specific setup that OpenVZ used:
[jleggett@lxp6d15m3 scripts]$ cat redhat-add_ip.sh
#!/bin/bash

puppetd dies?
Greetings all,
My deployment of puppet includes a monitrc to make sure that puppetd stays
up and running. It seems like (across all of my hosts) that pupeptd will
end up dying and restarted by monit. I''m running puppetd under a screen
session now on one particular host with --debug --verbose to see if any
thing comes out on console but until it happens again, any anybody else

Samba 4.8 Config SMB.Conf File
removed sssd.
removed all sss occurrences and winbind from the shadow line.
Selinux is disabled.
firewalld is disabled.
not sure if there is a difference but I have smb and winbind, I do not have
nmbd or smbd.
/etc/resolv.conf
search mydomain.com
nameserver "ipaddress for DC1"
nameserver "ipaddress for DC2"
Still no such user after restarting the services and executing net

After making the changes, I now get " No such user" when trying the id

users and group successfully with wbinfo. Just not the GID and UIDs.
