Query regarding auto arima
I am using AUTO ARIMA for forecasting. But it is not detecting 'seasonality term' of its own for any data. Is there any other method by which we can detect seasonality and its frequency for any data? Is there any method through which seasonality and its frequency can be automatically detected from ACF plot? -- Siddharth Arun, 4th Year Undergraduate student Industrial Engineering and

arima: warning when fixing MA parameters.
I am puzzled by the warning message in the output below. It appears whether or not I fit the seasonal term (but the precise point of doing this was to fit what is effectively a second seasonal term). Is there some deep reason why AR parameters ("Warning message: some AR parameters were fixed: ...") should somehow intrude into the fitting of a model that has only MA terms? >

Fitting Arima Models and Forecasting Using Daily Historical Data
Hello everyone, I was trying to fit an arima model to a daily historical data, but, for some reason, havent been able to. I basically have 212 observations (from 12/1/2012 to 06/30/2013) containing the number of transits for a particular vessel. The following messages are produced by R: dailytrans.fit<-arima(dailytrans$transits, order=c(0,1,2), seasonal=list(order=c(0,1,2), period=365),

modeling time series with ARIMA
Good afternoon! I'm trying to model a time series on the following data, which represent a monthly consumption of juices: >x<-scan() 1: 2859 3613 3930 5193 4523 3226 4280 3436 3235 3379 3517 6022 13: 4465 4604 5441 6575 6092 6607 6390 6150 6488 5912 6228 10196 25: 7612 7270 8617 9535 8449 8520 9148 8077 7824 7991 7660 12130 37: 9135 9512 9631 12642

ARIMA, AR, STEP
Here is my problem: Autoregressive models are very interesting in forecasting consumptions (eg water, gas etc). Generally time series of this type have a long history with relatively simple patterns and can be useful to add external regressors for calendar events (holydays, vacations etc). arima() is a very powerful function but kalman filter is very slow (and I foun difficulties of estimation)

Time series forecasting
Dear all: I'm a newbie and an amateur seeking help with forecasting the next in a non-stationary time series, with constraints of 1 (low) and 27 (high) applicable to all. What I need help with is the solution concept. The series has 439 observations as of last week. I'd like to analyze obs 1 - 30 (which are historical and therefore invariate), to solve for 31. The history: Obs 1

predict.Arima question
Hi, I am trying to forecast a model using predict.Arima I found arima model for a data set: x={x1,x2,x3,...,x(t)} arima_model = arima(x,order=c(1,0,1)) I am forecasting the next N lags using predict: arima_pred = predict(arima_model,n.ahead = N, se.fit=T) If I have one more point in my series, let's say x(t+1). I do not want to recalibrate themodel, I just want to forecast the next N-1

predict and arima
Hi all, Forecasting from an arima model is easy with predict. But I can't manage to backcast : invent data from the model before the begining of the sample. The theory is easy : take your parameters, reverse your data, forecast, and then reverse the forecast I've tried to adapt the predict function to do that (i'm not sure that the statistical procedure is fine (with the residuals),

Reg GARCH+ARIMA
Hi, Although my doubt is pretty,as i m not from stats background i am not sure how to proceed on this. Currently i am doing a forecasting.I used ARIMA to forecast and time series was volatile i used garchFit for residuals. How to use the output of Garch to correct the forecasted values from ARIMA. Here is my code: ###delta is the data fit<-arima(delta,order=c(2,,0,1)) fit.res <-

function to undo the DIFF command in ARIMA command
Hi users. I'm new user in R. I'm workiing with Time series and I would like to know how can I do to undo the command DIFF(X), for exemple: If I have the model: m=arima(X, order=c(0,1,1), seasonal=list(order=c(0,0,1))) (note that have d=1 one difference), to find, in the same scale, the original numbers (like one "unDiff"), after the forecast, I need to develop some function or in

[gently off topic] arima seasonal question
Hello R People: When using the arima function with the seasonal option, are the seasonal options only good for monthly and quarterly data, please? Also, I believe that weekly and daily data are not appropriate for seasonal parm estimation via arima. Is that correct, please? Thanks, Sincerely, Laura Holt mailto: lauraholt_983 at hotmail.com download!

finding model order components for arima()
Greetings, I am trying to model a time series using arima(). For getting the model order components(p, d, q and P,D,Q) I am using procedure discussed in [1] in section 3.2 . It is most likely hit and trial method based on lower AIC value. I want to know what is the correct way to find model order components or the method described in [1] is the appropriate one. thanks in advance. -- [1]Automatic

Problem auto.arima() in R
I am using auto.arima() for forecasting.When I am using any in built data such as "AirPassangers" it is capturing seasonality. But, If I am entering data in any other format(in vector form or from an excel sheet) it is not detecting seasonality. Is there any specific format in which it detects seasonality or I am doing some thing wrong? Does data have to be entered in a specific

filtering ts with arima
Hi, I have the following code from Splus that I'd like to migrate to R. So far, the only problem is the arima.filt function. This function allows me to filter an existing time-series through a previously estimated arima model, and obtain the residuals for further use. Here's the Splus code: # x is the estimation time series, new.infl is a timeseries that contains new information # a.mle

Arima forecasting
Hello everyone, I'm doing some benchmark comparing Arima [1] and SVR on time series data. I'm using an out-of-sample one-step-ahead prediction from Arima using the "fitted" method [2]. Do someone know how to have a two-steps-ahead forecast timeseries from Arima? Thanks, Matteo Bertini [1] http://robjhyndman.com/software/forecast [2] AirPassengers example on page 5

seasonal fractional ARIMA models

Search for best ARIMA model
Hello, I have a several time series, which I would like to check for their best fitted Arima model (I am checking for the lowest aic value). Which lets me raise two questions: 1) is there are more efficient way, than using 6 for-loops? 2) sometimes the system cannot calculate with given parameters - is there a more efficient solution than I found? I hope, you can help me to make this

How to write an estimated seasonal ARIMA model from R output?
I'm trying to use the following command. arima (x, order = c(p,d,q), seasonal =list(order=c(P,D,Q), period=s) How can I write an estimated seasonal ARIMA model from the outputs. To be specifically, which sign to use? I know R uses a different signs from S plus. Is it correct that the model is: (1-ar1*B-ar2*B^2-...)(1-sar1*B^s-sar2*B^2s-....)(1-B)^d(1-B^s)^D

Import ARIMA coefficients
Hello, I need to know how to import ARIMA coefficients. I already determined the coefficients of the model with other software, but now i need to do the forecast in R. For Example: I have a time series named x and i have fitted an ARIMA(1,0,1) (with other software) AR coef = -.172295 MA coef = .960043 (i know that this is not a good model, it's just an example) I try to

p-values for ARIMA coefficients
Hi, I'm a beginner using R and I'm modeling a time series with ARIMA. I'm looking for a way to determine the p-values of the coefficients of my model. Does ARIMA function return these values? or is there a way to determine them easily? Thanks for your answer Myriam
