Help Read File With Odd Characters
I have a large (105MB) data file, tab-delimited with a header. There are some odd characters at the beginning of the file that are preventing it from being read by R. > dfTemp = read.delim(filename) Error in make.names(col.names, unique = TRUE) : invalid multibyte string at '<ff><fe>m' When I view the file with head, I see: ??muni_code parcel_id? The file is too large

Best IDE for R
Dear R-Group, I am looking for suggestions for the "best" IDE for R. Best is obviously subjective but I need just the basic features that should function well (and I looked through the threads already). - Proper integration with R 2.11.1 - Good key shortcuts ... similar to the R Gui - Manageability of Projects, etc. - Neat formatting features I tried Revolution R but it seems huge in

A guide to R packages for Ubuntu
As per a request, here is a brief guide to what is available to R users as packages in Ubuntu. Each release of Ubuntu includes the latest version of R and the recommended packages. In addition, there are approximately 80 additional r-cran packages available in the default repositories. The limitation to these packages is that they are not updated and reflect the current version of the

pgadmin and Centos 5?
I've been fighting to get the latest source of pgadmin compiled on Centos 5 64-bit. I obtained gnu-c++ (so it was happy with g++). It then complained about wxWidgets, so I obtained the source for that, compiled and installed, and ./configure for pgadmin saw wxWidgets and was happy with that. Go to make... It complains that some header file is missing. A google search reveals limited

R, PostgresSQL and poor performance
Hi List Apologies if this isn''t the correct place for this query (I''ve tried a search of the mail archives but not had much joy). I''m running R (2.14.0) on a Mac (OSX v 10.5.8, 2.66GHz, 4GB memory) and am having a few performance issues with reading data in from a Postres database (using RPostgreSQL). My query / code are as below # -----------------------------

Help: how to install "rgdal package" on Ubuntu desktop?
Dear groups: I have tried to install rgdal in my Ubuntu, but it is not as straight as installing "sp". It demand the pre-installed GDAL and proj.4. I searched the source code in http://trac.osgeo.org/proj/ and http://trac.osgeo.org/gdal/wiki/DownloadSource. but don't know how to compile them. Who will give me a hint? Thanks a lot. Re: TextMate Bundle using Gedit
For what I know you can''t use the TM bundles... But like mgutz pointed there''s a lot of plugins. There is some alternatives to achieve something like TM bundles. Look at this links: - GMate - http://github.com/lexrupy/gmate/ (http:// alexandredasilva.wordpress.com/gmate/) - gedit-rails - http://github.com/mig/gedit-rails/ Think that GMate is the most complete. I use these as

Outliner plugin for editor
I am currently running not only Geany (on CentOS and on Windows) but also Gedit on CentOS, much of the use is as markdown-editors being a recent convert to this language. I would, however, also like to be able to essentially use it as an outliner - remember the old DOS outliners that were great for creating document outlines? It would have been perfect had I been able to fold and unfold sections

Asterisk Unregisteres IAX Friend Randomly
Hi, I've been having a strange problem recently where real-time asterisk will unregister a IAX friend at random times when the registration should not have expired. I have a Zoiper soft phone client (on windows) connecting to asterisk over a LAN (no firewalls). The default reregister time of 60 seconds is used, but the asterisk server unregisters the client (sets regseconds to 0 in the

Outliner plugin for editor
Thank you. Ideally, however, I would like to continue using Geany or gedit. I have found a "gnome outliner" on the 'net but that seems not have been updated for a very long time... RODBC and sqlColumns
I have a Postgres database that I am connecting to with the Postgres ODBC driver on Windows XP in R 2.1.0. In the database is a database with two schemas (public and X). With RODBC (1.1-4) , I can connect to the database and get the tables with sqlTables(db). I can query tables in the schema with sqlQuery("SELECT * FROM X.test"). However, I can't get the columns in table X.test

SQLite primary key schema
So after successfully getting the test SQLite db to run from memory, I tried running some tests but found that somewhere in the schema translation from Postgres (my devel database) and SQLite Rails fails to properly set the ''id'' column, which breaks all kinds of things. Take as an example my ''users'' table. In Postgres the schema is (generated with pgAdmin III):

gWidgets (tcltk): problem extracting values from widgets in glayout grid
Hello, I haven't been able to find an example for the second case below -- or perhaps I didn't recognize it when I saw it. Is there a value for x such that svalue(x) will return "bbb", either by itself or as part of an array? Or do I need to do something else entirely? Variable Editor
Hello everoyne, If you have ever used matlab you should know the variable editor. You click over the value of a variable in the workspace and it opens like a excel sheet. Do you know if there is something like that in R . This will make easier for me to understand what values are stored in a matrix. Also I am using rkward. Do you know if there is anyway to see the already defined variables?  I
