Hello R users, I am relatively new to R and cannot seem to crack a coding problem. I am working with substance abuse data, and I have a variable called "primary.drug" which is considered the drug of choice for each subject. I have just a few missing values on that variable. Instead of using a multiple imputation method like chained equations, I would prefer to derive these

vignette index going AWOL
I?m preparing a package (fastR) for submission to CRAN, but the vignette index keeps going AWOL, or at least R CMD check ?as-cran thinks so. I?ve tried several things and gave myself the weekend to think of other things, but I can?t figure it out. Perhaps someone on the list can lend a hand. Here?s one example situation, where I build the index.html file myself and put it in inst/doc/index.html

Malicious Linux modules
As halflife demonstrated in Phrack 50 with his linspy project, it is trivial to patch any system call under Linux from within a module. This means that once your system has been compromised at the root level, it is possible for an intruder to hide completely _without_ modifying any binaries or leaving any visible backdoors behind. Because such tools are likely to be in use within the hacker

panel/prepanel for polar plots ala xYplot
First a bit of background: After doing a search for a flexible polar plot function and coming up empty, I have begun writing one myself. Since I am new to writing mid-level graphics routines, this has required some learning about lattice, grid and related things. I am to the point where I have a workable proof of concept, but still need to make some improvements. My goal is to have

Ideas for Rails Shirt Graphics
I''ve had a couple ideas for Ruby on Rails shirt graphics for a little while now: 1. "Fuck You" superimposed over, oh, probably a Ruby gem. Or Rails of some sort. 2. "Ruby on Rails" superimposed over rails of cocaine. Maybe also with a graphic of a crazed looking coder. Anybody got graphics? Or can make them? Heh! Joe -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

inflate returned -3
Good day, all, I'm trying to transfer a 174M file to a system with 1.2G free. Other files in the tree come over just fine, but this transfer dies partway through: rsync -avvz -e ssh --partial --progress server.with.the.file:/server/directory /local/directory opening connection using ssh server.with.the.file rsync --server --sender -vvlogDtprz --partial . /local/directory receiving file

Data Mining in Europe, please advise
Our CEO, Dr. Dan Steinberg, is planning to visit Europe in May. He would like the opportunity to introduce statisticians (and statistically minded people) to data mining, data mining applications and to forefront data mining tools. Our algorithms are probably familiar to many statisticians (CART, MARS, MART, TreeNet and RandomForests), although it isn't necessary to be a statistician to

Does your rkhunter do an md5 check?
I rebuilt rkhunter-1.2.8-1.noarch.rpm by using the spec and tgz from the rkhunter site (www.rootkit.nl). (I rebuilt it using his instructions.) However rkhunter does not do an md5 check. The box used to have fedora and each time there were updates it would complain that the some of the md5's don't match. I contacted the author using his contact feature on Wednesday but he hasn't

adjusting textsize and spacing in mosaic (vcd package)
I'm trying to find a way to change the font size in a mosaic plot (the grid version, not the base graphics one). Here's an example to demonstrate: #Basic plot library(vcd) mosaic(HairEyeColor, shade = TRUE) #Bad first guess: this stops the default cell colouring, and doesn't change the font size mosaic(HairEyeColor, shade = TRUE, gp=gpar(fontsize=16)) #This successfully changes

mosaic plot with two factors and one continous variable
Hello, my dataset is already aggregated: I have two categorical variables, say "continent" and "country" and one non-negative metric variable "population". Now I would like to produce a mosaic plot which uses "population" to determine how large each area of the plot is. In other words, I fail to find out - how to use the mosaic function of the vcd package

Levelplot + Mosaic Plot hybrid?
Hi. I have built a levelplot with 3 variables, X, Y, and Z where X and Y are the two axes and Z represents the intensity (i.e. Z~X*Y). Now I want to adjust the size of the grid (like a mosaic plot) where the size of each grid is weighted by a variable, W. Just wonder how can I do that with levelplot? I tried exploring mosaic plot. How can I manipulate the "col" option to make it

problems with mosaic plot
I'm pretty sure that I did everything right, but my R is just not drawing the mosaicplot that I want, and there is also no error messege, looks like this right now: > mosaicplot(arthritis) > mosaicplot(~ sex + treatment + improved, data = arthritis, color = TRUE) > -- View this message in context: http://r.789695.n4.nabble.com/problems-with-mosaic-plot-tp3090128p3090128.html Sent
