Question about file ownership on destination
Hello
Regarding ownership on the destination:
rsync's man page indicates that when synchronizing files to a remote host,
-o implies the --numeric-ids option, which makes perfect sense aince the
named users/groups may not exist on the destination host. The problem I
have is that the files created on the destination still appear to be owned
by the local user (server1) on the rsync

Rsyncd log file permission
Hi I am wondering if there is any way to change the file permission of
"rsync.log" and "rsyncd.lock" via rsyncd.conf. Most likely the "lock"
file is not possible, but maybe the other file is possible.
The reason I am asking is because if I UserA runs rsync, then UserB
won't be able to write to rsync.log file since its owned by UserA and
readable only to UserB.

--exclude-from works but "exclude from" in rsyncd.conf doesn't ?
I'm setting rsync up for the first time and would prefer to have the
exclude file defined in the conf file, but the exclusions aren't
honoured when I define the parameter in rsyncd.conf - although they are
when I specify the file in an argument. The server is the remote system
and both rsyncd.conf and the exclude file are the same on both local and
remote systems. I'm attaching the

How to control rsync log?
Hi,
We have a rsync server running on a HP-UX 11.11 server. The version of rsync is 2.6.3. There are several machines regularly rsync a lot of stuff(files and directories) to/from this server everyday. When we run rsync on these machines, we prefer running rsync with "-v" option (for verbose) so that we can see the progress of the rsync.
On the rsync server, rsyncd.conf file, we have

Can rsyncd be set to require compression?
Hi,
rsyncd.conf allows you to forbid compression. I'd like a way
for it to require compression, either by forcing the option
on or forbidding transfers from clients that don't request
--compress
Is such a thing possible?
Regards,
David.

group change causing failure
OK, I searched through the archives and didn't find anything so I must be
doing something stupid.
I just compiled 2.6.3 and am trying to get it to run on linux 2.6.8.1 kernel
with a more or less fedora core2 environment. I was trying between two
systems but I have narrowed it down to what I believe is a pretty simple
case. Here is my setup/test:
