Questions about single intance storage
Hello
We are using dovecot 2.0.16 with mdbox+zlib. We are now testing SiS (Single Instance Storage) and I have 5 questions:
1? Is possible to "dedup" existing mdboxes?
2? Are attachments compressed with zlib if mdboxes already use zlib?
3? I have plenty CPU to spare, should I use a low value of mail_attachment_min_size , like 16KB ?
4? Can I "undo" SiS if I have

Disable SIS
Hi,
I'm currently running a small home-server with Dovecot. A long time ago
I configured it with SIS enabled. I would like to stop using SIS.
If I remove sis from mail_attachment_fs will the old mails that are
stored in SIS-storage still be accessible?
How can I convert all mailboxes to stop using SIS and store attachments
back in the mails?

Problems setting up SIS (duplicate files with same hash)
Hi everyone,
I am currently trying to setup our next dovecot server (2.2.18) with SIS
enabled, but I have enconutered 1 problem and 1 question:
*1) Same attachment, different filenames*
I have a feeling a misconfigured something (or forgot to do something)
because SIS almost works, but not quite since 3 identical attachment take
3x the space (see end of email for my SIS config).
For 3 the

SIS attachments compressed
Hello:
In case it is defined to use zlib compression, does SIS save attachments
compressed?
I have found this question replied in the past (2012) and the answer was
NO. I ask again just to know if there have been changes or if it is in
the roadmap to add compression.
I have been testing to migrate from maildir+zlib to mdbox+zlib+sis and
the results, in terms of space used, and worst than

Dsync and SIS
Hi all,
Just to clarify, if we back up a dovecot 2 server with SIS for
attachments and ALT storage by rsyncing it (including the SIS and ALT
storage) to a remote server when it's idle (or at least almost entirely
so), and run dovecot on that machine, would it seem feasible to restore
backups from that server by using dysnc - specifically for the scenario
where someone accidentally

2.1.rc1 (8a63f621bd2e): SiS permission issue + crash
Since changeset 8a63f621bd2e I'm one step closer to the perfect working
setup. I'm sharing one GID per domain, all it's alias names and accounts.
So I can use: mail_attachment_dir = /srv/mail/.SiS/%{gid}
In order to avoid permission trouble I've set fs ACL on the .SiS dir:
,--[ getfacl srv/mail/.SiS ]--
| # file: srv/mail/.SiS
| # owner: root
| # group: root
| user::rwx

SiS does not work
How do you do.
I have tried to use SiS to deduplicate attachments in mail storage.
Unsuccesful. When goes mail with reasonable size, and SiS try to start,
I have receive error, when this mail must be delivered for group of
receivers (i.e. through aliases).
Below is error log, valuable parts of mail addresses masked by X and Y chars

sis deduplication broken from 2.2.16 upwards
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi,
sis attachment deduplication is broken in 2.2.16 upwards.
It is caused by this commit.
https://github.com/dovecot/core/commit/664bf3e236c214aee86294483c379e4fa66c2e63
in src/lib-fs/fs-sis.c function fs_sis_try_link() is comparation of
inodes of hash files.
Because fs_stat() after that commit use fstat() on open fd of temporary

[PATCH] [resend] nouveau: Disable AGP for SiS 761
SiS 761 chipset does not support AGP cards but has AGP capability (for
the onboard video). At least PC Chips A31G board using this chipset has
an AGP-like AGPro slot that's wired to the PCI bus. Enabling AGP will
fail (GPU lockup and software fbcon, X11 hangs).
Add support for matching just the host bridge in nvkm_device_agp_quirks
and add entry for SiS 761 with mode 0 (AGP disabled).

Rsync to backup dbox with SIS
We will be deploying a replacement Dovecot server soon, and we are
planning to use maildir for the primary storage, but with an archive
namespace using mdbox (or perhaps sdbox), and SIS.
Our backup servers and (luke)warm spare server need to obtain full
copies of the mail store. For the maildirs I know I can simply use rsync
(we already use it here).
I'm a little wary of using rsync with

Doubts about dsync, mdbox, SIS
I've been running continous dsync backups of our Maildirs for a few
weeks now, with the destination dsync server using mdbox and SIS. The
idea was that the destination server would act as a warm copy of
all our active users data.
The active servers are using Maildir, and has:
$ df -h /usr/local/atmail/users/
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on

SiS: Attachment file larger than expected
I recently set up SiS and imported a large chunk of mail.
I've noticed one or two instances of this in the logs:
Mar 28 09:03:50 mail dovecot: imap(xxx at yyy.zz): Error: Attachment file /mailstore/attachments/ce/73/ce737a45fe07495e2ae6466f9e381a30d5ec300406f11269d79bd5608cc0c922-822b3d2df67f8e4d7f5000009501e12a larger than expected (252218)

Migration to multi-dbox and SiS
Dear list,
A huge thank-you first of all for all the work that's gone into Dovecot itself.
I'm rebuilding a mail server next week and so, taking the rare opportunity to re-consider all the options I've had running over the past couple of years.
Around the time of the last re-build (2010), there had been some discussion on single instance storage, which was quite new on Dovecot

How to Delete an user and Purge attachements with a common directory mail_attachment_dir with SIS for all users.
Hello everybody,
What is the best way to delete an user mailbox (ex:
/var/mail/johndoe ) when all attachments (for all users) are in a
common directory with SIS deduplication (ex: mail_attachment_dir =
/var/mail/attachments ) ?
Trying to delete user mailbox directory (rm) and do the command :
doveadm -v purge -u johndoe leave all johndoe's attachments orphelin.
Best regards,

Regenerating mdbox/sis
It's apparent I have some level of corruption in my mailboxes -
something to do with the combination of mdbox, sis, and zlib. I should
note that I know I have a mix of compressed and raw messages - if that
makes any difference in identifying the problems.
I think I need to
somehow regenerate the mailboxes with issues. Is there a suggestion for
how to accomplish this? Should I perhaps use
