Thank you for your interest in Letor project in Xapian. We would definitely
like to consider Letor for this year's GSoC project.
What I would suggest you is, start playing with the code and get acquainted
with it. The latest code can be obtained from http://trac.xapian.org/wiki/

Before writing a full proposal, I want to get in contact with the
community, as well as introducing myself and discuss my ideas for the

Syslinux is now participating in GSoC 2012
Hi all,
Some days ago I attempted to submitt Syslinux as a mentoring
organization for Google Summer of Code 2012, but Google rejected it. As
kernel.org has been accepted as a mentoring organization, and also
listed Syslinux as one of the things they intend to develop, we can work
with them under their umbrella.
As I'm currently the only mentor of kernel.org (for Syslinux,
specifically),

GSOC 2011 : Weighting Schemes
Hi All,
I'm Sumith, a postgraduate student in Monash university. I'm working in the
area of Text weighting schemes and Text Mining. When I'm going through the
GSOC project list, I felt interested in the 'Weighting Schemes' project. At
the moment, I have worked with different weighting schemes as TF-IDF and
would love to join and contribute with my ideas in this project.

GSoC student application deadline
The deadline for student applications is 19:00 UTC on Friday 6th April:
http://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/events/google/gsoc2012
That's just over 36 hours away as I write this.
The deadline is sharply enforced by the melange software, and you
won't get an extension, so don't leave it until the last few seconds, as
you might have an unexpected internet outage.
There's also no

Learning to rank
Dear Sir,
I am Pankaj Singhal from Jaipur, India. I am very much
interested and strongly looking forward in getting involved in this project
Learning-to-Rank.
My previous experience in this field is good. Last semester I did a similar
job of ranking the URLs of the given huge dataset based on their attribute
values. The dataset consisted hundreds of thousands of URLs and each url

GSoc Project Idea Weighting Schemes (Ranking)
Hi,
I am Abhishek
Currently Xapian::Weight follows BM25 scheme, many models such as the
Divergence from Randomness (DfR) family of models, Unigram Language Model
and the Bi-gram Language Model implemented two years ago in GSoc 2012 yet
not merged to the master.
The new weighing schemes or improvement in implementing the previous models

GSoC: Weighting Schemes
Hi James,
Thanks for clearing doubts I had earlier.
>>if we can introduce the variants using optional parameters that default to
>>(effectively) 'off' that might be better than distinct ones,
Yes, this will definitely be the better approach for introducing the
variants of existing weighting functions.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Next, I will try to come up with a draft of

Percentiles/Quantiles with Weighting
Hi All,
I am looking at applications of percentiles to time sequenced data. I had
just been using the quantile function to get percentiles over various
periods, but am more interested in if there is an accepted (and/or
R-implemented) method to apply weighting to the data so as to weigh recent
data more heavily.
I wrote the following function, but it seems quite inefficient, and not
really very
