yum groupinstall "GNOME Desktop" fails
I?ve got a CentOS 7 VM here that was installed with one of the CLI-only presets. To answer a question in another thread here, I wanted to install a GNOME desktop environment in it, so I went searching and found the standard instructions for doing that. The problem is that rebooting the VM gives me a black screen after it finishes the text booting parts. There?s an X cursor, and wiggling the

To this end I performed the following group installs: yum groupinstall "general purpose desktop" "x windows system" I can login on the host system as root and then run 'startx' which gives me a desktop, sort of. The top menu bar with the various tool sets is missing as is

setWindowState(), how use it?
I'm trying to add some options in state plugin: -skipTaskBar -skipPager -above -below I use setWindowState() to do this but: - It currently only works for skipTaskBar && skipPager - For above and below, it works but only for newly created windows here the code: if (skipTaskBar != -1) windowState |= CompWindowStateSkipTaskbarMask; if (skipPager != -1)

Invisible window problem
There is a bug which I am seeing and a few people are reporting on the forum. The problem is a hidden window which is always rendered on top. It is always short and wide and appears near the bottom-center of the screen. Here is the output from xwininfo on that window, xprop produces nothing. xwininfo: Window id: 0x3400787 (has no name) Absolute upper-left X: 294 Absolute upper-left Y:

R's X11 Device Properties
Hello, This is an issue that is at the interface of R, X, and my window manager (either icewm or openbox, both latest versions). I am running R 2.10.1 on Ubuntu 9.10. My goal: When an X11 device is started in R (e.g., by simply calling plot), I would like for the resulting window to be in the "always on top" state, and for focus not to switch to it. Configuring this behavior is

vncserver does not start gnome-sessioin automatically
I installed RHEL 5.8 x86_64 today. To my surprise, when I connect it using vnc viewer it does not start gnome-session automatically. The last line in .vnc/xstartup is twm& Before I removed RHEL 6.1 a few days ago, vncserver always starts gnome-session every time I open vncviewer. Is that related to RHEL version or vnc-server version? Best Regards, Yawei

Severe issues with the latest 6.5 desktop
Ok, here at home, I'm running kde. After the last update, last week, and reboot (and that was a *real* mess - some issue I'm not sure I've resolved yet, trying to boot off RAID 1), here's what's started happening: I run in runlevel 3, and have a startx in my .bash_profile. At some point, just about every day, suddenly the toolbar on the bottom vanishes, as does my desktop

X-Windows client for MS-Win2K
An intermittent need to connect to a CentOS4 development box from a MS-Win2K workstation using X-Windows has developed here. However, I cannot seem to find a cheap (read free) X-windows client for MS- Windows to accommodate this. This seems very odd to me, displaying no doubt my profound ignorance of the issues involved. The few shareware versions that I have located expect registration

When I try to run gui (such as keepnote or chromium) from within my vms now tho I get errors. X11 device windows are spawned with empty WM_NAME property
Hello, I've noticed that X11 device windows (the ones that pop up when I plot something on Linux) aren't assigned any WM_NAME property until after they've been spawned. This causes problems for users of tiling window managers, who may wish to use the WM_NAME property to decide whether to float or tile the window. If I create a plot and then examine the window properties with xprop,
