Select elements from text
Hi, I have a series of MS word files and each file contains plain text. From these texts I would like to extract only those elements (read: words) that are between square brackets. Example of a text: Most fundamentally, it has led to an effort to clarify the organizational form concept. According to them [see also Smith, Jones and Carroll 2002], categories emerge as audience members recognize

Projecting data on a world map using long/lat
Hi, I have a dataset (CSV) with some counts of firms located around the globe. Each count is assigned to the longitude and latitude of the specific location. Now I want to plot these counts on a world map using dots (size of dots represent the count). I have been unable to find any info on whether this is possible and if so, how? Can you please help me? Thanks! Mathijs -- View this message

Merging fully overlapping groups
Hi, I have data on individuals (B) who participated in events (A). If ALL participants in an event are a subset of the participants in another event I would like to remove the smaller event and if the participants in one event are exactly similar to the participants in another event I would like to remove one of the events (I don't care which one). The following example does that however it

Converting qqplot2 qplot() to grammar?
Hello all, I've been using the following qplot command: qplot(pixX,pixY, data=som, geom="tile", fill=rgb) + scale_fill_identity() + opts(aspect.ratio = .75) + facet_grid(unitX ~ unitY) Now I would like to convert it into the explicit ggplot grammar, so I can remove the extras: axes, labels, background, borders, facet labels, and extra white-space around the plot. Question about ggplot2
Dear All, I am trying to graph a simple scatter plot where the x axis is year and the y axis is a percentage (percentage of infant death). Instead of plotting the raw data, I want to plot summary statistics such as mean and median. Here is the problem: the value range of y is between 0 and 1, but since infant death is a rare event, the mean and median is very low (something like 5%), which shows

Changing gird marks in ggplot2
Hi, When I zoom into a graph created in ggplot2 with the coord_cartesian(ylim=c(0,5)) option, I have no values labelled on my y-axis. For this graph ggplot2 only puts labels the y-axis at intervals of 10 (i.e. 0, 10, 20, ...). However, the major portion of the graph I am interested in is located between the values of 0 and 5 on the y-axis (thus why I am zoooming). How can I coerce ggplot2 into

Insert segment only on particular facets in ggplot
Dear R users, I am working on a data-set with 3 species. They are apple, orange and banana. I want to annotate the facets only on the bottom panel. However, by default I am getting annotations on all the plots. I was able to get text annotation only on the desired plot. However, I am confused what I need to do for the arrows / segments. Here is my code: library(ggplot2) library(grid) tempobs

Maximum number of patterns and speed in grep
Hi, I am using R's grep function to find patterns in vectors of strings. The number of patterns I would like to match is 7,700 (of different sizes). I noticed that I get an error message when I do the following: data <- array() for (j in 1:length(x)) { array[j] <- length(grep(paste(patterns[1:7700], collapse = "|"), x[j], value = T)) } When I break this up into 4 chunks of

multiple ids on restful action

I need some way to pass multiple ids to a resource. Something like /posts/13,14 If I do this I have to manually split the id on ","s in the action, and use post_path([post1,
