reading excel into R
Dear all,
I am new R user and I am sure that this question has been asked quite often
and I have also googled it and read about it! I understood that in order to
read excel sheet into R you need to open it and saved it as csv or text, is
this true? or you can use read.delim2 and read.csv2 to do this without the
following error

Hello,
I have a data set which is similar to the following data
mice <- rep(letters[1:4],10)
outcome <- sample(c(0,1),length(mice),replace=T)
group <- c(rep("A",length(mice)/2),rep("B",length(mice)/2))
my.data <- data.frame(mice,outcome,group)
my.sort.data <- my.data[order(my.data[,1]),]
I would like to test wether there is a different between group A and B

median of two groups
Dear all,
What is the right test to test whether the median of two groups are
statistically significant? Is it the wilcox.test, mood.test or the ks.test?
In the text book I have got there is explanation for the Wilcoxon (Mann
Whitney) test which tests ob the two variable are from the same population
and also ks.test!

Hello,
I am using
library(gplots)
to do something like
data(state)
x1 <- state.area/10000
x2 <- x1+round((rnorm(length(state.area),3,3)))
plotmeans(x1 ~ state.region)
Is it possible to plot x2 to x1 in the same graph, something like:
linesmeans(x2 ~ state.region)

two group cox model
Dear all,
I am doing
library(survival)
fit <- coxph(Surv(futime,fustat) ~ rx, ovarian)
plot(survfit(fit,newdata=ovarian),col=c(1,2))
legend("bottomleft", legend=c("rx = 0", "rx = 1"),
lty=c(1,2),col=c(1,2))
Is this correct to compare these two groups? Is the 0.31 the p-value that
the median f two groups are equal
Why lty does not work here?

metaplot
Dear all,
I have a four variable: Stuy.Name, OR, 95%LCI and 95%UCI and I would like to
create a meta analysis plot. I can't use meta.MH function in metaplot
because I do not have
n.trt, n.ctrl, col.trt, col.ctrl are not available! Is there an alternative
way to do it?

Tar Compression issue
I have a file Server CentOS 5.10, its on the internet, so I compress all csv
into one file using (tar -czvf compressed_files.tar.gz *.csv) on this
server so that I can download them as one compressed file to save bandwidth,
Disk space on this server available is 50Gig, so when I copy the files onto
Redhat EL 5.9 and decompress them using (tar -zxvf *.gz) It decompresses
maybe 80% then get error:

Extract p-value from survdiff function
Hi list,
I want to use the p-value from the survdiff function (package
survival) to reuse within a function in a Kaplan-Meier plot. The
p-value is somehow not a component of the value list ?!

[LLVMdev] Modeling GPU vector registers, again (with my implementation)
It seems to me that LLVM sub-register is not for the following hardware
architecture.
All instructions of a hardware are vector instructions. All registers
contains
4 32-bit FP sub-registers. They are called r0.x, r0.y, r0.z, r0.w.
Most instructions write more than one elements in this way:
mul r0.xyw, r1, r2
add r0.z, r3, r4
sub r5, r0, r1
Notice that the four elements of r0 are written

p-value calculation
hello everybody
i'm very new at using R so probably this is a very stupid question.
I have a problem calculating a p-value. When i do this with excel i
can use the method CHIDIST for 1.2654 with 1 freedom degree i get the
answer 0.261
i just want to do the same thing in R but i can't find a method.
can somebody help me

batch job GLM calculations
Hello
I want to batch job the calculation of many GLM-models, extract some values and store them in a file. Almost everything in the script below works (read file, extract values and write them to file) except I fail in indexing the GLM with the modelstructure it should run. Running GLM's conventionally is no problem.

it with R-1.6.1.
Everything is ok with exception of Table 2b, where I get always 1 instead of
0.5:

p-value of Logrank-Test
Hello!
I want to compare two Kaplan-Meier-Curves by using the Logrank-Test:
logrank(Surv(time[b], status[b]) ~ group[b])
This way I only get the value of the test-statistic, but not the p-value.
Does anybody know how I can get the p-value?

I am trying to repeat an example from Rayner and Best "A contingency
table approach to nonparametric testing (Chapter 7, Ice cream example).
In their book they calculate Durbin's statistic, D1, a dispersion
statistics, D2, and a residual. P-values for each statistic is
calculated from a chi-square distribution and also Monte Carlo p-values.
