B-spline/smooth.basis derivative matrices
Hello, I've noticed that SPLUS seems to have a function for evaluating derivative matrices of splines. I've found the R function that evaluates matrices from 'smooth.spline'; maybe someone has written something to do the same with smooth.basis? regards, s

dimnames in an array(I'll be grateful if this message will be passed to all list users)
Hello, I'm hoping someone with a wide experience with R may be able to see what the program is trying to tell me. I've got an array: y1=rnorm(41,0.2) y2=rnorm(41,0.2) y3=rbind(y1,y2) data11<-array(0,c(41,2,2)) data11[,1,]=y3 data11[,2,]=y3 rownames(data11)<-rownames(data11, do.NULL = FALSE, prefix = "Obs.") colnames=c("V","R")

estimation of ode from data
Hello, I'm used to working with R in estimation of distributions and statistical models. I'd like to estimate a simple model of an output y(t) based on a concentration as independent variable, using a timed series of experimental data; I've seen this I think somewhere in R? I'd appreciate to hear if anybody has used this with success. regards, S

estimation of parameters with grofit
Hello, I'm trying to understand grofit's estimation of models, and fairly new to growth models generally. The data used by grofit consists of the vector of "experiments", that is the growth values for a vector of individuals measured at different times. Can I understand correctly that the program estimates parameters for the growth model based on a regression(linear or non

maptools: Test if point is in polygon
In R's maptools package, is there a built-in function to test if a given point is "inside" a given polygon on the map? The map was loaded from an ESRI Shapefile. The point's latitude and longitude are known. Thank you! Aleks -- ------------------------ Aleksandr Andreev Fulbright Fellow Graduate School of Management St Petersburg State University

maptools package
A few years back, I wrote some code to plot maps with the maptools package. Now I am trying to reproduce my results, only to find out that maptools has been updated and my code no longer works. I've been able to fix the first part of it by forcing spb <- maptools:::read.shape("/home/sasha/Documents/maps/spb.shp") (as read.shape has been deprecated) but now when I do plot(spb,

stochastic models for population growth
Hello, Having measured two populations' characteristics at one particular time[with great precision] with R, I would like to extend this to measuring the same populations starting at t1, and then again at t2, and try to develop a growth model (something like dpop1/dt=r*pop^(...),dpop2/dt=r*pop^(...)). I think the idea is to create a model that will predict the growth of a population(N(mu,

Build opus for STM32
Hello everyone. I would like to use the opus codec in the following scenario: the PCM audio signal, coming from bluetooth module is captured by STM32F446 MCU and then decoded by opus codec. However, I don't know where to start to build the opuslib for ARM Cortex-M4. Could someone provide any hints or give any brief guide on this? WBR, Aleksandr -------------- next part -------------- An

is AIC always 100% in evaluating a model?
Hello, I'd like to say that it's clear when an independent variable can be ruled out generally speaking; on the other hand in R's AIC with bbmle, if one finds a better AIC value for a model without the given independent variable, versus the same model with, can we say that the independent variable is not likely to be significant(in the ordinary sense!)? That is, having made a lot of

When modeling with negbin from the aod package...
Hi, When modeling with negbin from the aod package, parameters for a given count y | lambda~Poisson(lambda) with lambda following a Gamma distribution Gamma(r, theta) are estimated. The intercept is called phi. Some other parameters may be also be estimated from factors in the data: the estimates returned for all these would be in accordance with the Value listing in the negbin entry in the aod

High noise after encoding/decoding procedure
Hello everyone. I have a problem with a high level of noise after opus encoding/decoding procedure. If I stream a raw data from the microphone and send it back to the speakers I hear the clear sound (with a small delay). If I encode each frame, decode it and send it back to the speakers I hear a very noisy signal - it is so large, so it is almost impossible to distinguish words in my speech...

High noise after encoding/decoding procedure
Thanks a lot for your tips. What I have to done to debug: got the raw wav-file, compressed/decompressed it on my PC and saved OPUS packets as an array. Moved this array to the embedded platform and made sure that the frames decoded from the OPUS packets are the same. However, the high noise level was the same, but it wasn`t caused by OPUS. The problem was with my sound bus between an embedded

Hello all, After upgrading to 3.0.23c on my FreeBSD 6.1 box Samba stopped working on any connections. When connecting to smbd, tcp session is established (SYN, SYN+ACK, ACK) then a client send a NEGOTIATION packet, and after some timeout (about 10-15 seconds) this tcp session is closed (by the client) because no response to NEG. packet was received. Then after 75 seconds (counting from the

Generating maps in R
Greetings! I am trying plot some data on a map in R. Here's the scenario. I have a variable called probworkinghealthy which contains a predicted probability of employment for every individual in my sample (about 100,000 observations). I have another variable, called a001ter, which contains the subject of residency in the Russian Federation (akin to a US state) for every individual in the
