CentOS 5.5 {{{ mkswap: unable to relabel /srv/cloud/one/var/25/images/disk.1 to system_u:object_r:swapfile_t: Operation not supported }}} The selinux is configured in permissive mode. How much SWAP Space.
Hi, I have loaded CentOS 5.6 on HP DL 180G6 2U Rack Server and the physical RAM is 32 GB. As per http://www.centos.org/docs/5/html/Deployment_Guide-en-US/ch-swapspace.html It says it should be 1 x of Physical RAM or less. Not sure about the "less" word in deciding swap space size Please suggest/guide further on what all parameters i should decide to set swap space. Regards, Kaushal

Accidentally issued "mkswap" on ext3 fs -- recovery possible?
Hi, I accidentally issued "mkswap" on a used ext3 fs partition (~30G) :-/ I have analyzed the behaviour of mkswap using two test files and it appears to only change "some" bytes: --8<-- --- swap2.xxd 2005-07-04 21:00:10.157261360 +0200 +++ swap1.xxd 2005-07-04 21:00:01.894517488 +0200 @@ -62,7 +62,7 @@ 00003d0: 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 ................

[XEN] using shmfs for swapspace
hi, am starting to play with XEN - the virtualisation project (http://xen.sf.net). i''ll give some background first of all and then the question - at the bottom - will make sense [when posting to lkml i often get questions asked that are answered by the background material i also provide... *sigh*] each virtual machine requires (typically) its own physical ram (a chunk of the

Hangs on multiple small files
I am running rsync on win9x (PIII 900, 128MB RAM) between a mapped network drive and a local drive. For small folders on this machine rsync works great, but the folder I am syncronising with has 13GB of data and > 1,000,000 files. Out of about 20 attempts rsync has only succeded once, all other times it just seems to hang. Not much info but any ideas? Thanks Scott

RSync hangs up on file transfer
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello! I'm using RSync to mirror from a server (gandalf) to a backupserver (dwalin). RSync does just fit my needs for what I want it to do and I would like to thank your for your work on RSync. Nevertheless I do have a problem which actually comes up from time to time. The syncing of each partition is done by rsync calls from cron.daily. This

Server crashed using rsync
I'm trying to make a backup using this command rsync -auvH /home/ /bak --delete --bwlimit=1000 --status server load has been increased so much and the server crashed, as well has gone out of memory My Server is a Dual Xeon 2.0 GHz with 2GB of Memory + 1GB Swap. Could be that there are too many files, about 5.000.000, to be backed up ? The way the files are structured make very

load testing and tuning a 4GB RAM server
Hello everyone, First of all, great job on the 4.8-R. We have been a long standing user of FreeBSD and are very happy with everything. Now my question. I am trying to stress test a new Dell PowerEdge server and find the limits of its hardware and my tuning. Here are the server stats: * 2x Xeon 2.8 with SMP compiled, hyperthreading NOT compiled in kernel * 4 GB of RAM, 8 GB of swap on Raid 1

Memory consumption for rsync -axv --delete
Hi, I have been using rsync for many years and never had any kind of problem. Lately I am running out of RAM trying to do an incremental backup to a box that only has 2G of RAM. The entire directory structure I'm mirroring is about 200G of files. A minority of subdirectories have many files. Is there a way to do an incremental backup with --delete option that does not use as much memory? Is

restorecon and sudo

SELinux and rsh+xauth
Hello, I have a strange (for me) problem with these two machines : - Client, a CentOS-5.7 workstation ; - Server, a CentOS-6.2 headless, up-to-date server. From Client, I want to use xauth on Server with the help of rsh (yes, I know, ssh and all this sort of things... another time.) When SELinux is in permissive mode on Server, all these commands perform as expected : rsh Server

mounting an ext3 filesystem "-o ro"
Hi, I want to do something *bad* : to mount an already mounted ext3 partition. Mounting "-o bind" is not an option, this partition is mounted by different virtual machines. NFS is the right way to go, so I want another one :-) I have no problem mounting this partition read-only, but it seems that actually it is not really read-only. CentOS-5.7 + megaraid + SELinux : update problem
Hello, After updating to CentOS-5.7, I have a (small) problem : The context of /dev/megadev0 is now defined (in /etc/selinux/targeted/contexts/files/file_contexts) as system_u:object_r:removable_device_t:s0. This cause smartmontools to fail : avc: denied { read write } for pid=2847 comm="smartd" name="megadev0" dev=tmpfs ino=8284
